  1. Anybody read the article in the New York Times a little while back that says Propecia actually can lower your risks for prostate cancer...Anybody hear that before?
  2. And I agree with Spanker....The shaved head look does look very neat and disciplined. Look at all the athletes today wearing it. It can work, and really brings out the features in your face. I shaved my head for a few years and liked it, but now I want to rock the hockey mullet like patrick Kane, who by the way is balding pretty bad for such a young guy. Maybe Kane- A chicago Blackhawk- can go to Dr Konior considering he is in the same area.
  3. You picked one of the greatest surgeons in the world. Dr Konior, who is a teaching professor at Loyola Hospital- One of the top hospitals in the Country, really is a good guy and not many surgeons have the stamina and skill to do what he does. If Dr Konior leaves the room during the procedure, everything is put on pause, as he is the one who puts most of the grafts in himself. He really never leaves the patients side during the procedure, and combine that with his gifted skills as a surgeon and one who teaches medical students at Loyola the latest techniques in donor closure, I feel like he is a caring man who really has empathy for his patients, listens to his patients, and has the skill to produce some of the best results in hair transplantation today. Just look at Spankers hair....And check out some of Dr K's video on Youtube. One of his videos is simply amazing, life changing. It is a repair job, and the guy is pretty much slick bald, but Dr K gave him a full head of long hair. Not many docs can do that kind of work, and his scars are some of the best I've seen. A real perfectionist.
  4. Great write up on diffuse thinners Bill. I myself am one and your write up gave me reassurance. Thanks.
  5. Very clean work. You have a lot to look forward to man, you went to the Monet of FUE!
  6. For the people feeling pain in the donor area after FUE could you post some pics? Would like to see how how the donor area looks? Hope you guys feel better.
  7. Magnum go on youtube type "Scalp stretching exercises" and some videos should pop up. Maybe spend 10 min in the morning and 10 min at night.
  8. For some people the risks associated with FUT are not a worry. I have a very tight scalp and do not want to risk a stretched scar, or scalp numbness which is real and maybe rare but a patient should know beforehand what they are getting into. And is it worth it, whether it be FUE or FUT, but I choose FUE because for my case I think its best as I would not want to sacrifice any amount of hair on the top of my head if it gave me lifelong suffering. Some guys do not have that problem and have great results with FUT and very fine scars. But there are guys who went in thinking they would be okay and the scar stretched. If you have a very tight scalp I think it's best to avoid FUT. For guys that are athletes and play sports and cannot take months and months off FUT is not a good option. I'm not saying FUT is bad. I've seen great heads of hair via FUT. But I have also seen great heads of hair FUE. Both give equal yield in growth. Its just what is best for you. I think in the right hands FUE can give results equal to strip. When I had a consultation with a very well known strip surgeon he never mentioned that I could get a less than optimal scar, all he said was that it would be pencil thin. I think a patient deserves to know that the scar might not turn out great, and the patient should know that he could have permanent scalp numbness or a feeling of tightness on his scalp. What bothers me is when you read the consent form it clearly says -I agree that this surgery might result in permanent scalp numbness- I agree that I might have headaches or scalp tightness. These things should not just be mentioned on a piece of paper, they should be talked about as much as pencil thin scars are talked about during a consultation. That is my account of what I went through.
  9. When I have a top coalition Doctor who is known for his superior FUT work tell me that todays FUE "Is old wine being marketed in a new bottle" I know he is not a master of FUE, nor need he be as his FUSS results are some of the best in the world, I think he is unwilling to unhitch the wagon from the horse because why should he when he is very successful at what he does. Comments like that during a consultation are not only dishonest, but irrational and only reinforce my belief that in this industry you don't know what to believe or what is true. But as a former soldier I know when it's time to lay down my weapon and walk off the battlefield. Some wars are just not worth fighting for. Hopefully any first timers getting a hair transplant will be guided in the right direction and not fall for goofy assumptions based out of fear and envy. My advice to any newbie is take your time, research as much as you can, and during a consultation whether it be FUE or FUT make sure they tell you the good and the bad. Let the white flags fly homies!!!!!
  10. The top FUE doctors in the world, and its not just my opinion but a fact are- Dr Koray Edgoran Dr Lorenzo Dr Bisanga Those are just a few. None of them use Robotic FUE Robotic surgery has its place in other areas of science like cardiovascular surgery. But for Hair Transplantation it is an inferior tool and a very gimmicky one at that. Some surgeons do not need to spend over 50,000 bucks or more for an Artas or NeoGraft machine because they have the skilled hands of a true surgeon so they can extract the grafts with less trauma. If the top FUE guys in the world thought that these machines extracted quality grafts, believe me they would have them in their clinics. Robotic FUE serves the Doctor more so than the patient. It saves the Doctor time while making him money. There is a reason the Top FUE guys in the world are the best. Dr Lorenzo, one of the well known FUE surgeons who does manual FUE, recently praised Dr Koray Erdogan's one-step extraction method. Both surgeons could have Robotic FUE as it would only save them time and make them more money. But they believe in themselves as artist. Back in the victorian days they had this amusing novelty piano that played itself. I guess the music sounded okay, but I'd rather here Chopin played by a pianist than listen to it on a machine. Just an analogy, but I think you get my point.
  11. Robotic FUE? Compare results of top notch FUE docs who have enough skill to use manual instruments to those that use Robotic FUE. Robotic FUE is used by inferior surgeons who do not have the skill to master manual FUE so they spend mega bucks for these machines that in fact do more damage to the follicle. Dr Bernstein was on Oprah promoting FUT. He even said that FUT scars are "Pencil-Thin" and brought a patient on- I bet one of the ones that got a good result- to show Oprah how great his work is. Stay away from Robotic FUE and FUE in North America. THe Monets of FUE are overseas. Bernstein is mostly a strip doctor and when he was on Oprah he sure was beating the drum for FUT. And your long sheet by Bernstein listing all the negatives of FUE is misleading and should include all the positive aspects of FUE also. With just listing the negatives of FUE makes it sound like you have a biased outlook on FUE. Anyways, a pro strip Doctor is the wrong person to be writing about FUE. I'd rather see a list written up by somebody who actually practices FUE full time and knows the good and bad. Very one sided in my opinion. Robots are for those that lack the essential skills it takes to do manual FUE, which is the "Gold Standard" of FUE today.
  12. Watch out for consults that promise pencil thin scars. Do not say it unless it is a fact 100 percent of the time. And if any of you do decide to do strip surgery know that nerves can be severed and in rare cases do not re-connect so you are left with permanent scalp numbness, or a feeling of tightness all over your scalp. This does happen, has happened, and will continue to happen. It is a risk and most of the time they will not tell you that it is a risk, although it might be rare, it still is a risk. Sadly, it is only mentioned in the paperwork you sign before agreeing to go in for surgery. I think the good and bad, both FUE and FUT, should get equal billing during a consultation. But hey promises of pencil skin scars sell!
  13. Yes in the end we are all guys that just want our hair back and even if we disagree on FUT or FUE or whatever, I think at the end of the day we are all good dudes regardless of our arguments about hair transplantation. In the big picture your health is all that matters, and if your healthy then hair is just an added bonus. I know when a death in my family occurs, or somebody is sick it puts into perspective the importance of just enjoying your life as it is. I know we feel robbed because of our hair loss, I feel bad or would not be on here researching, but life is short and we should enjoy it as much as we can. Hair or no hair. And maybe someday hair cloning will be a reality, I hope that for everybody on this forum. As Rodney King famously said " Can't we all just get along" Take care boys.
  14. I think during FUT consultations the pros and cons should be brought up for discussion. It's nice to hear that the scar will be"pencil-thin" but that is not a promise any ethical Doctor or Clinic should make. It should never even be mentioned because usually if the scar stretches the patient is told it's because of his physiology. I don't think its worth risking permanent scalp numbness or tightness, even if the odds are one in a thousand. I think surgeons tend to gloss over the scarier aspects of FUT. That's why you rarely see a close up donor extraction video of FUT or pictures of the wound before it is tightly sutured or stapled shut. You can see many videos of FUE donor extraction. I'm not here to bash FUT, I just think that certain aspects of the surgery are hidden beneath a veneer of rainbows, unicorns, and pencil-thin scars. Is FUE scarless, no. But FUE is not as invasive and that is why those practicing FUE have no problem putting up videos of the actual extraction. I have yet to get a transplant because I do not think we got to the top of the mountain yet. Manual FUE is very difficult to master, I can count on my fingers the number of elite FUE surgeons who practice manual FUE. Most are overseas. Just to name a few- Dr Koray Erdogan, Dr Lorenzo, Dr Bisanga. Those that dismiss FUE as "Old wine being marketed in new bottles" are making false statements because they wan't you to believe that FUT is the "Gold Standard". I'm all for advances in science, in literature, in music, in cooking, in painting, whatever it is progress matters. Some people such as myself cannot fathom having a part of they're scalp amputated just to get more hair. I'd rather have a slightly lower yield- And that is up for debate, I think the three guys I mentioned above get yields comparable to FUT, and not have to worry about the chances of permanent scalp numbness, permanent scalp tightness, and a stretched scar going ear to ear. FUE is less invasive. That is a fact. Look at the recovery time. You can play hockey a month after FUE or lift weights, with FUT I've been told it's best to wait several months before resuming any heavy exercise or lifting. I'm not a FUE junkie here to sell my product, but I think FUT has had it's day and with progress comes complaints because our human nature is we like to stay comfortable with what we know and can do. Manual FUE is John Coltrane's the Love Supreme when it is successful. FUT is more like Benny Goodman. People liked Benny Goodman, were comfortable with his music. But when Coltrane came around and started the modern jazz movement along with Miles Davis everything in jazz changed. The same applies to science and hair restoration. You have to push the envelope further and further, and manual FUE is doing that right now. FUT is an old tune, to me.
  15. You will be okay, wait a while, your still very young. And do not worry about donor area on a fourty year old being thin, I am 40 and my donor area is just as thick as when I was 20. The top however is the problem, those hairs are weaker and slimmer than the hair on the sides and back of my head, hence the need for a transplant.
  16. With some of the Top FUE docs is it possible to do 3000 or 4000 graft sessions via manual FUE? And is so what is the chance of poor growth, and what is the chance of the donor area looking thinned out. I've seem some top FUE manual Docs overseas do big FUE cases and the donor area looks fine. Is that the norm, or is it risky? Also, for native hair is it possible that the trauma from the big of surgery can kill the native hair for good? Alot of questions but for somebody that is only wanting FUE I wonder if the results, the killer results we see on youtube and such, are the norm if done by a very good manual FUE only doc. Thanks guys.
  17. A random thought, why don't homeless dudes ever go bald? I live in a major urban city and all the homeless guys have great heads of hair, year round tans even though we have terribly cold, blizzard condition winters. Always wondered.....Things that make you go mmmmmmm
  18. If this was month six or seven then you would have cause to be concerned. But as you heard before its still to early and the stage your in whats happening is normal so don't stress out to much.
  19. How long can you stay in the overnight rooms at Dr. Erdogans new clinic? Supposed somebody wanted to stay a week, is that possible
  20. Manual extractions are used by the top notch FUE docs, mostly guys like Erdogan and Lorenzo. I guess it gives them a better feel. I'd rather get manual FUE over robotic FUE. Just compare the results and you will see why manual is better, in my opinion. Seriously, they're FUE work reminds me of Monet holding his paintbrush.
  21. The Chopin of FUE! Dr Lorenzo. I always said surgeons like Dr Koray Erdogan and Dr Lorenzo and a few others are like artist the way they use manual instruments during FUE procedures. I'm sure the dexterity it takes to play classical piano tremendously adds to Dr Lorenzo's comfortability with handling manual FUE tools.
  22. Without change we would stay stagnant, John Coltranes Love Supreme, T.S. Elliots epic poem "The Wasteland" , Monets brush work, advancement in the arts are just like the advancements in science except instead of a new tempo, a free versed stanza, a novel like no other seen before, skilled surgeons like Dr Koray Edrogan and Dr Lorenzo or using they're own manual instruments to achieve creative perfection in the field of FUE. They both use manual tools, and like Coltrane madly blowing new, and exciting melodies, or F. Scott Fitzgerald typing away at the Great Gatsby Dr Koray and Dr Lorenzo use they're tools to do the world's best FUE. The horse and buggy days are over, change is inevitable, and we should thank the ones who are always pushing further and further, to try new things, to never stay stale or stagnant in old ideas. FUE can be artwork in the right hands.
  23.:eek:]I am all for pushing the envelope and that is what some of the overseas FUE docs are doing. Just like James Joyce got flack from the old, musty literary establishment when he wrote Ulysses there are some FUSS surgeons of the "Old Guard" who had great renown in the glory days before FUE came along, and now a good amount of FUT surgeons will try and dismiss FUE as a less successful procedure. I call this the "Horse and Buggy theory- The Train Of Though that resist change" Its a thesis I am working on. Very Kafkaesque. Anyways, what I am saying is there might be some surgeons and clinics resisting the fact that FUE can be just as good as FUT. To say otherwise is to support the horse and buggy theory. They might tell you all kinds of things that are not true to make you believe strip is still the one and only "Gold Standard" of hair transplantation. It's a opinion based out of fear based out of a powerlessness over that fact that the field of HT is changing, new developments are happening everyday! Manual FUE in the right hands, and there are not that many hands that can handle those instruments like artist so do your research and think outside the box, are producing results that are just as mind blowing as the best FUT outcomes. And with the added appeal of having no ear to ear scar. Modernism in art, in cooking, in architecture, and in the field of hair transplantation, the common goal is to push science to its most outer limits. People fear new things. I agree, FUT has produced some great results. But it's a new day and FUE can do the same as FUT. Do not listen to anyone that tells you FUE is not as good as FUT. It's an opinion, not the truth. Also, FUE is a viable option if finances are a concern. If you go overseas the price of grafts for FUE is cheaper than what they charge in the states. And guys like Erdogan and Lorenzo are really pushing, pushing further to get great results without the ear to ear scar. They are among the top 3 FUE manual surgeons in the world. Amazing what they can do. Some guys are just scared to death of strip. So thats why FUE came along, and it has helped a great many people who never would of had a hair transplant. I think that is a noble cause. And I'd rather not have part of myself amputated, and that's why I never felt like I could good through with FUT. Some guys do not mind getting the strip of skin taken out, and they do have stellar results and the ones on this forum who have had positive strip surgeries seem to have no problems with they're scars. So to each his own. But I do believe 95 percent of FUE is being practiced by those that do not have the still hands of a true artist- Manual FUE is the best FUE, in my opinion- so be wary of those ads for robotic FUE and do not let overseas travel stop you from getting the best FUE in the world.

Some fail to mention that the punch holes are smaller now, so small that they are the least invasive scars in hair transplant surgery today. To say otherwise is to support the horse and buggy theory. They might tell you all kinds of things that are not true to make you believe strip is still the one and only "Gold Standard" of hair transplantation. 25. Very sorry Denny. Hope you and your family the best.
