  1. My advice is if you can't pay for it in full then you probably shouldn't consider yourself a candidate. A hair transplant is not a heart transplant. You don't need it, but it sure could be a nice improvement for some people. It is a luxury, not a necessity. If you can't pay outright then I think you should re-evaluate your priorities and finances. Going down this path can be very costly because hair loss is not something you can completely stop even with medication. You will need additional surgeries down the road. What if you are still paying off your first and now need a second? Or are having trouble paying for the costly meds? There are too many necessary life expenses that can pop up on us any day and if you are strapped for cash because of a cosmetic surgery then you will be in bad shape man. If I was your friend I would tell you to just shave your head for now and continue to work and move up the totem pole in your career till one day you have the money and to reevaluate if you still want to do it.
  2. Dr Bernstein is a well respected doctor in the industry. I am curious as to what the email said and where his thoughts are on the topic. Perhaps you should post or summarize the email. I think it is worthless to guess the timeframe as to when this could be marketable. For all we know there could be something that happens tomorrow that is ground breaking. On the flip side it could never come. Guessing a time frame would just be ignorant in my humble opinion.
  3. Use this site to find patients with hair similar to yours and learn from their experience. Also, start researching doctors on here and find who would be the best fit. Make a list of the things that bother you the most and concentrate on addressing those. Sometimes for a good job you will have to travel. Unfortunately there are far too many run of the mill clinics out there that will jack you up and you should only trust your hair to someone with proven case results and happy patients. Research as much as possible and stay connected to the community.
  4. Good question. I would think that it would fall still based on the root. But just my guess.
  5. Looks like a good plan doc. I think she'll be happy with a softened hairline and the ability to style her hair differently. It's sad that someone put 3's in her hairline.
  6. Frontal hairline looks fantastic. Since life is 360 degrees I think it's only fair to show all angles and scar or lack there of so that potential patients aren't mislead. Anyway, I am very impressed with the hairline which had to be completely created from scratch. Are there any plans to go get the crown covered? Either way I'd say the patient got a significant improvement! My only request is that pictures from all angles be posted.
  7. Stay on fin and don't panic. If you are noticing dandruff don't change everything at once. First thing I recommend is buying Selsun Blue shampoo. When I noticed dandruff it seemed to help a lot. Typically a change in shampoo can fix this issue. If that doesn't work then it might be worth seeing a dermatologist to see if you have some type of bacteria scalp infection. But I am fairly certain Selsun Blue will clear it up. Never had success with Head and Shoulders.
  8. To get a fair assessment you will have to provide some better quality pictures. No one can objectively judge the work based on that picture. Try a better camera if you have it with different lighting. At 6 months we should be able to get a pretty good guess at how things are going if you can provide better pictures.
  9. Nice improvement for the patient. She has plenty additional hair styling options now. End result looks great. I too would love to see incision photos since this surgery isn't as well known as the typical hair transplants seen on the site.
  10. I like it. The frontal hairline looks pretty natural with the design and his hair texture. I think it looks age appropriate. If I was him I may not even address the crown. I think he looks age appropriate and has significantly improved his looks. But not taking meds is NOT something I would recommend unless he is one of the rare side effect victims. Good work doctor.
  11. I couldn't agree more. Whoever did the work used doubles in the hairline. I feel this is something that should be punishable by death in the industry and would highly encourage you to identify the doctor and let them explain their reasoning for this. After all this is what the forum is for and if everyone conceals situations like this then it gives no insight for future patients. Anyway, I think what MAGNUMpi said is very good advice. This industry is as much art as it is medical and I think you could greatly benefit from doing some good research to find a talented doctor out there. I just wouldn't trust someone who put doubles like that where they did with nothing to conceal them. We are here to help you in your journey. Keep us informed.
  12. Of course some people don't take medication. I think it is extremely nuts to not take something and to get a HT though. We have all seen cases of people who have transplanted hair coming out of an area that has nothing around it. It looks goofy and a lot worse then just shaving your head. I think the two go hand and hand together. Just my opinion though. I would never trust a doctor that wanted to to do a HT without the patient on fin and having a history of positive response.
  13. I concur that you need to wait. I wish I would have waited longer and I'm sure many others feel the same. Use the time to stay up to date in the industry and to develop contacts of people who have been there first. You'll have a much better experience.
  14. Looks nice. I'm not sure how I feel about putting a few grafts in the crown due to future loss possibilities, halo effect, etc, but I'm sure this venerable clinic thoroughly discussed crown issues with the patient. Very nice improvement. Subtle change that made a big difference. Well done!
  15. A baby's health comes first. I think all will agree on that. However, I think it is overwhelmingly accepted in the medical field that there is zero risk if taken properly. Always avoid skin contact with the pill that way you don't rub it inadvertently on your wife and let her absorb it through the skin. Shake a pill into the cap and launch it directly into your mouth. Your body fluids will not transmit any risk, according to the doctors and pharmacists I have talked to. I have known plenty of people to have children with no complications where the dad was taking daily finisteride.
  16. I am just not as confident giving females advice on HTs because from what I have read it is not based on the same concept. Plus you are too young for that to be an option right now anyway. I think your hair looks great. I'd recommend trying some different hair styles and see what works best. A good stylist can do wonders. Try a few styles.
  17. I don't think this is a realistic option due to the donor region. No matter what your choice of surgery you will still have the issue of scaring in the donor region.
  18. He did some fine work. I'm not a fan of going into the crown at an early age, but I do like your results. Hopefully you get to enjoy it for a long time till you gotta get some more around the crown area. Well done doc.
  19. Absolutely right! The side effects are way over stated. A lot of people who link it to ED would of had it anyway. A lot of people with depression (flimsy claim bc there are very few credible studies claiming this) had depression before the drug or as stated above the is more likely a correlation between hair loss and depression. I wouldn't put too much confidence into these claims unless you see the full study yourself. You'll be hard pressed to find them. But you will see people making crazy claims based on their personal hypothesis with no scientific backing. <--not a good way to evaluate drug side effects. Bottomline, it is not a miracle drug. You will still lose hair. However, it does help retain hair longer then you would have without it. Depending on your case it may be worth it.
  20. YOU DID WHAT?! OMG?.....Just kidding, don't give it a second thought man. No harm done.
  21. Hairline looks pretty dense. I imagine the top view was intentionally left out because that is not the patients good angle, as he still has a bald crown. That's why I would always lean towards advising these patients to shave head completely instead of pursing a HT unless they care more about the 1 dimensional view from the front and say to hell with the rest. As long as they understand they can't mathematically cover the entire area with good aesthetics then I have no problem with it, to each their own. Front coverage in this case looks good. I think it would be beneficial to see how it was tied into the rest of the hair and how far back the transplanted follicles go.
  22. It depends. What meds are you talking about? I think your question is something a doctor should answer and because you are not their patient I understand the reluctance based on the limited information you provided. If you are talking about finisteride then I would argue that you shouldn't come off of it ever once you started. Too many cases out there that show these can have serious consequences on hair loss. It's not a blood thinner so it shouldn't matter.
  23. I echo that statement above. I'd also add that hair transplant surgery is not for those with shallow wallets. If money is a big concern then you should NOT even debate this approach. I say this because you should only get a HT if you have had good success with finasteride (which is something you will have to pay out of pocket for your entire life) and you will also have to follow up in the future for additional hair transplants to fill in areas or to just keep up with hair loss. It is not a one shot deal for the majority of people that go down this path. Money is a factor in the sense that you don't want to go to doctors who price themselves out of the market (generally a red flag), however you don't want to get less then desired grafts just because funds are tight. I'd take a big step back if I was you. Respectfully, I think your approach to this topic is misinformed. But you are in the right place and doing your research so keep it up and just read as much information as you can. Besides, your hair looks great man!
  24. Might want to post some operation photos so we can see where the slits were placed. How tight they were together etc. I agree that the hairline looks a bit thin, but it could just be the photos. I am curious to see what the total design for this HT was and what the expectations of the patient were. How far back did you plant? I just can't tell much as far as overall plan based on those photos. Nice breakdown of the grafts. Very thorough.
  25. This one is going to have some good results. No doubt about that. His salt and pepper hair and texture is great the cherry on top. Sounds like the type of patient to provide updates on a regular basis too. I wonder if his recovery and initial growth will be faster than the average Joe based on his fortune of not swelling. Keep us updated on this case please!
