  1. This 44-year-old gentleman desired more fullness in the frontal half of his scalp to "frame his face" more effectively. His primary emphasis was that his appearance be natural. With an average donor density and a relatively tight scalp, approximately 1700 grafts were generated using follicular unit transplantation (FUT). Despite this relatively modest number of grafts, the patient is demonstrating early growth at 8 months that are achieving his goals.
  2. The color contrast between black hair and light scalp can reveal the early stages of hair thinning to an undesirable degree. This patient in his mid-30s sought treatment and underwent follicular unit transplantation (FUT) with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley (NYC)
  3. This patient's donor area can be viewed during his return visit. On the lefthand side, the hair is parted in a region of virgin scalp where there is no scar. On the righthand side, his hair is parted along the donor scar to reveal it.
  4. A 42-year-old male wanted to advance his receding hairline. The most important thing to him was a natural appearance after the procedure. In the accompanying video, he can be seen before and 17 months after his follicular unit transplantation (FUT) procedure with Dr. Wesley (NYC)
  5. A 31-year-old male underwent a 2030 graft follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedure with Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. (NYC). The session was focused on the frontal half of the patient's scalp and the grafts were incubated in PRP with ACell. The patient returned to our office 13 months after his procedure and comparative images can be viewed below.
  6. A 47-year-old male was bothered by the progression of his receding hairline. He underwent follicular unit transplantation (FUT) with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley (NYC). He returned to the office 15 months after his 2700-graft session for evaluation. The graft storage solution was a combination of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and ACell.
  7. This 33-year-old male was bothered by the progressive thinning of his recessions as well as throughout the entire caudal portion of his scalp. He came to Dr. Carlos Wesley (NYC) for a 3119-graft follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedure. The patient returned at only five (5) months postoperatively to display his early growth. The combined use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and ACell as a follicular graft storage solution may help contribute to the early growth that numerous patients experience.
  8. Patients are often pleasantly surprised to learn during their initial consultation that our practice does not require patients to shave their head for a follicular unit transplantation (FUT) procedure. As Dr. Wesley operates on only one patient per day, it is much easier to take the time to carefully navigate around the pre-existing hairs during recipient site creation. The benefit to patients occurs not only in the immediate short term (7-10 days) postoperatively when the redness can be better camouflaged by the longer native hairs, but also during the first few months of early growth when the transplanted hairs are just beginning to grow and provide coverage and density. Here is a recent example of a patient who underwent a session of over 2700 grafts to the caudal region of his scalp. You can see that by being able to comb his longer, pre-existing hairs over the incoming base of new hair, he is able to effectively camouflage the new growth and continue to lead a normal lifestyle.
  9. This past weekend's "Advances in Facial Reconstruction and Cosmetic Surgery Symposium" provided audience members in New York's Mount Sinai (Icahn) School of Medicine an opportunity to learn about insights regarding the future of hair restoration (both surgical and otherwise). Dr. Wesley lectured to colleagues ranging from resident physicians to attending physicians in fields such as dermatology, ENT surgery, and plastic surgery about topics including hair follicle cell therapy, laser hair treatments, and scarless surgical hair follicle harvesting. Building on this lecture, Dr. Wesley has been invited to author a chapter on "Future Trends in Hair Restoration" in the upcoming "Hair Transplantation" textbook (Cambridge University Press).
  10. All consultation slots have been filled for next Tuesday, April 22nd. However, interested patients may either put their name on the wait list or be notified of Dr. Wesley's next trip out West by contacting (844) 745-6362 or emailing info@drcarloswesley.com.

  12. A 25-year-old male wanted to slightly advance and add fullness to his hairline and frontal scalp without compromising the pre-existing hair in that area. A 2036 FU session with Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. (NYC) can be seen before, during, and 12-months later. The accompanying video also illustrates the overhead view of the young man's scalp one year after his platelet-rich plasma (PRP) - enriched follicular unit transplantation (FUT) session with Dr. Wesley.
  13. Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. will be holding in-person consultations in Los Angeles, CA on Tuesday, April 22nd. He will be seeing patients only on this day. Patients interested in meeting with him in person may contact Loretta, the appointment secretary, at (844) 745-6362 or email info@drcarloswesley.com to arrange for a consultation with Dr. Wesley. Please note, the physician, not a "consultant" or a salesperson, will be meeting with you and answering your specific questions directly. As someone who takes pride in his work, Dr. Wesley looks forward to speaking with you and sharing information that was included in his recently-authored chapters on Hair Restoration published in the leading dermatology and plastic surgery textbooks, as well as the most respected physician reference site. In addition to discussing the nature of the procedure, he will determine whether or not you are a candidate and the surgical fee for the size of the session for which you are eligible. If you would like to view additional patient results, you are welcome to view them here.
  14. A 46-year-old male was bothered by the progressive thinning throughout his hairline and the more and more apparent receding of his hairline. He came to the office of Dr. Carlos K. Wesley (NYC) for a 2056-graft procedure that filled in the frontal half of his scalp. The patient then returned 13 months later for follow-up images as seen below...
  15. This patient's donor scar was 1mm in width - as seen 10 months after his follicular unit transplantation [FUT] procedure with Dr. Wesley (NYC). The first images shows an untouched region of his donor scalp as compared with a the donor scar. The second magnified image displays the donor scar with a 5mm calibration. The claim of 1mm donor scars is common amongst many surgical practices, but actual measurements are uncommon. A very fine donor scar is especially important in this young man's case as the color contrast between hair and scalp is significant.
  16. While not as popular as the follicular unit extraction FUE megasessions for young men, the "lunchtime" procedure of long-haired FUE sessions has gained favor amongst the middle-aged male population. Rather than having to shave their entire donor area, a more focused FUE session enables patients to wear long hair in their donor area to cover portion of the donor area that was trimmed for the FUE harvest. This 68-year-old gentleman came to Dr. Carlos K. Wesley (NYC) because he wanted to focus on "touching up" a part line that had thinned over the years and returned later for follow-up images.
  17. This patient underwent two FUE procedures totaling over 3000 grafts. An athlete who liked to wear his hair short, this patient presented to Dr. Wesley's office (NYC) approximately 18 months after his first session for follow-up images.
  18. A female patient who underwent a FUT surgery with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley (NYC) can be seen before and soon after her session. The 1600 FU session generated early growth at only 7 months. While newly-transplanted hairs continue to appear for the first time up to 18 months after the date of surgery, early growth can sometimes be appreciated at this stage. In our practice, there has been an encouraging trend of earlier growth with the inclusion of chilled PRP as graft storage media.
  19. Dr. Carlos K. Wesley (NYC) recently authored the chapter "Androgenetic alopecia" in one of the leading physician reference textbooks in the field of dermatology: Treatment of Skin Disease, 4th Edition (Elsevier). His chapter not only provides an overview of the most common form of hair loss plaguing men and women, but also cites the best and most influential peer-reviewed articles that inform others about diagnosis and treatment of androgenetic alopecia. This textbook is unique in its format: equipping physicians with not only standard treatment strategies, but also second-and-thrid-line therapies for instances when other alternatives fail. Dr. Wesley covers the efficacy of current medical treatments as well as the various scenarios in which surgical hair restoration may be the most appropriate form of treatment.
  20. Dr. Wesley presented the background behind the concept of PiloFocus as well as his clinical findings thus far at the 21st Annual International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) Conference in San Francisco, CA. An in-depth video has been made available to inquiring patients highlighting this presentation. The clip is password protected. The password is "piloscopy". The detailed summary is approximately 25 minutes in length. So, it's best to settle in comfortably with a cup of coffee. Enjoy!
  21. This patient returned to see Dr. Wesley about three years after his initial consultation. At this time, the patient's hair transformation was essentially complete... An updated video montage of his transformation can be viewed below:
  22. Dr. Carlos K. Wesley was selected to provide a comprehensive overview of the field of surgical hair restoration to fellow physicians worldwide. By serving as the primary author of "Hair Transplantation" for WebMD (owners of both Medscape and eMedicine), Dr. Wesley is responsible for highlighting the most recent advances in an objective manner. This online resource for physicians and other health professionals features peer-reviewed original medical articles and presents a translation of the body of current research into clinical practice guidelines from the perspective of each subspecialty. The WebMD/Medscape Reference is the most authoritative and accessible point of care medical reference available to physicians and other health care professionals on the Internet. WebMD/Medscape Reference has a worldwide audience, including all of the 192 UN-recognized countries as well as other states and territories. The site is part of the WebMD Professional Network, which receives an average of 1.5 million physician visits per month. The evidence-based content, updated regularly by some 7,000 attributed physician or health care provider authors and editors, provides the latest practice guidelines in 38 clinical areas. A 2009 study showed 89.1% of physician specialists respondents accessed peer-reviewed material online, including WebMD and 12% used WebMD as their first source when conducting research online. Dr. Wesley composed the updated review article entitled, "Hair Transplantation Overview" that is featured in the dermatology section of the physician reference site. All content in WebMD is available free of charge for professionals and consumers alike. The article may be viewed here.
  23. This patient returned to our office approximately two years after having his initial repair work performed by Dr. Wesley (NYC). This patient's initial surgery was performed in a different surgical center (seen as "before" pictures). He subsequently underwent a session to also add density and coverage to the mid scalp region as well. Those images will also follow.
  24. This 34-year-old doctor wanted to add density to his thinning mid scalp. While he was bothered by the thinning on top of his head, the crown region (in back) didn't bother his as much. A 2579 FU session of FUT with Dr. Wesley focused on his mid scalp. By creating a feathered "arc" along the back border of the pattern of transplantation and leaving a portion of his crown untreated, young patients continue to have a natural appearance even when the thinning portion of their crown expands over time. The patient returned 12 months later for follow-up images and video of his new hairstyle.
