  1. Hi everyone, Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm sitting here in my hotel one day post op after getting the morning cleaning and repositioning of the grafts, and I have some time to kill. So, I figured I would write out hairloss story as well as my experience with Dr. Steven Gabel and his team of excellent technicians. This is my baseline photo the day I started minoxidil and finasteride on September 21st, 2018. The photo on the right is when I resigned myself to being bald sometime around March of 2018. Photo on the left is three months into treatment, around December of 2019. I was a great responder to finasteride and minoxidil. I also gave dermaneedling a try, which I believe helped a lot. I only did it a couple times - I will attach a photo showing the aftermath. This was in January of 2019. After this photo, I stopped doing progress pics so much because I let my hair grow out. What I kept my hair at - I could conceal my balding very easily, but if the wind blew the wrong way, it was game over. This was in May 2019. This hurt worse than the transplant. Derminator II, 12 needle cartridge at 1.25mm on fast for 5 minutes. Photo in December 2018. Since January of 2019, I have basically been taking 1mg fin once a day, minoxidil foam morning and night, a collagen supplement and a hair vitamin supplement. I plateaued on regrowth at around September of 2019, and it wasn't really good enough for me, as I could only style my hair one specific way and I could still see the scalp. I started researching hair transplants around this time. I reached out to three places before finding this forum. The first was Dr. Lupanzula, which I found from Joe Tillman's youtube channel. I thought he was incredibly humble, talented, and ethical. I reached out to his team, and they were responsive. They said it would likely be 1800-2000 grafts, but would give a more accurate estimate on in-person consultation. I originally planned to get the procedure done in the summer of 2021, as that is when I graduate from nursing school and get married. However, I realized how ridiculous I would look at my first job in the hospital, and decided summer of 2020 would be better. As such, I realized travelling out of country wouldn't be an option. The second place I reached out to was Dr. Baubac, also from Joe Tillman's list. I hadn't found these forums yet. Short story made even shorter, it was a bad experience, and after two or three emails it was a no-go. The third place I reached out to was Dr. Sharon Keene. She was more in my price range, and had a lot of experience. I had a phone consultation with her where she quoted me at 1200 grafts. I was also dead set on FUE at this time, as I didn't want the linear scar. I don't know why, but I didn't feel comfortable going with her. I think going with your gut and only selecting a surgeon that you are 100% comfortable with is crucial. At this point, I was starting to get a little burned out on Joe Tillman's list of preferred surgeons and wanted to branch out to see what else was out there. I watched a lot of youtube videos, and found David DiMuzio's channel. The person on his channel, Steve Cook, made some compelling arguments surrounding FUT. The real gamechanger for me was stumbling on Feller & Bloxham's youtube channel, specifically the FUT scar search. After watching a few of those, I watched every other video they posted about FUT, what to look for in a surgeon, and what an ethical doctor is like. I considered going to New York, but seeing as at this point, approximately mid to late March, was when covid was going crazy in New York, I didn't reach out to them for consultation. Instead, I decided to do my own surgeon search, independent from coalitions. I googled surgeons in Oregon, my home state. Dr. Gabel popped up, and so did a lot of his posts from this forum. I read every post and blog about Dr. Gabel, and I saw how active he was in this forum still. What set Dr. Gabel apart for me was that he posts all of his own work here. He doesn't have a consultant. Sending out an email and getting a personal response from Dr. Gabel was astounding. I didn't even get to talk to Dr. Baubac at all. I scheduled a consultation, and he actually made it a web-cam consultation, and he spent a full hour with me. This contrasts to the 15 minute phone conversation I had with Dr. Keene before she quoted me 1200 grafts based on 9 pictures I sent her. Dr. Gabel recommended I get FUE based on the haircut I preferred, but I said I would like to get FUT. He didn't weigh in with his opinion until I made the case for FUT vs. FUE. He somehow projects a balance of calm confidence and humility, and he was incredibly forthright about his approach to hair restoration. He asks poignant, pointed questions designed to get actual information about what you want. As a forth year nursing student, I can recognize a good surgeon. This spoke volumes to me. I knew right after that consultation I would be having my surgery with him. He recommended 2400 grafts, and based on my level of hairloss, I knew that's what I needed. I sent out one email to Dr. Gabel regarding a theory I had on microneedling and hair surgery, in that microneedling can cause angiogenesis, which I thought would help with graft survivability. He responded within the day and asked for the scholarly articles I had read to prompt this idea, which also was crazy to me. I ended up not microneedling, because I read another article that proved wound healing isn't really improved by an increase of angiogenesis, but his response was still impressive to me and deserves mention. The day of the surgery, July 29th, I saw Dr. Gabel for the first time in person. I was incredibly nervous. I don't know how many of you are reading this that haven't had the procedure, but let me just say, the anxiety catches you off guard the morning of. His technician greeted me (I don't know if saying the names of the technicians is kosher so I'm going to avoid it) and she was awesome. Dr. Gabel came into the room, and his attitude is contagious. He pushes positivity into his immediate environment. He loves what he does and is passionate about it, and it shows. He took one look at me, pushed up my hair, and tied off my forelock, and said, "This is the problem area." Photo below of what I'm talking about. I had no idea the hairloss was so isolated. The procedure went by very quickly and was virtually painless. Having a pretty good background in surgical procedure, I can say confidently that their set up is well thought out and efficient. They have adequate staffing, everyone wants to be there, and they do their job well. The final hairline was basically the one above, but done with skin safe sharpie with variations in the line, of course. I have some photos from this morning, 1 day post op, and will update in a week or so. Final graft breakdown was 2,325. 212 singles, 955 doubles, 870 triples, and 288 quads. One thing to note is mid-procedure, Dr. Gabel said I absolutely made the right decision to go FUT, as my grafts were very large and "splayed" near the base, which would have lead to an estimated 50% transection rate, as almost half were triples and quads.
  2. After long consideration and plenty of research, I have booked in with Dr.Bisanga on the 3rd of September 2019 in the new Bisanga / Cole Clinic in Athens. A small briefing of myself. I'm in my early 30's and possibly a Norwood 2. Not losing a mass amount of hair but enough to make me feel self conscious. My hairline used to be lower in my 20's. The hairloss started possibly around the age of 25. Typical hairloss. Receding at the temples and the hairline moving back over. I initially made contact with the B/C clinic after the recommendation on Instagram. Obviously I had done extensive research online and via lots of internet hairloss forums. I am also members of Facebook hairloss groups. It was a very tough process, to filter though all the clinics around the world. Initially, I would have wanted to get the surgery done in the UK. As it's a very daunting process to fly to a foreign country for any cosmetic procedure. As my research esculated and knowledge increased, I found that there wasn't many top surgeons in the UK. I'm definitely not saying there isn't any, I'm just identifying that my background checks on surgeons just didn't accumulate to much. I also did a hell of a lot of research on Turkish Clinics. In the end, to cut a long story short, my main essential questions never got the answer I was looking for. My thoughts behind choosing between either Dr.Bisanga or Dr.C was purely personal preference. A flip of a coin some people may say. Dr.C has been a innovator within the FUE industry creating industry designed tools distributed world wide and performing numous FUE transplants. He also trained Dr.Bisanga. My thoughts behind the choice of surgeon was souly based on my research. Also the type of surgery I was requesting and the results to back it up. Dr. Bisangas work stood out by a mile in relation to my specifics. His hairline lowering and temple work was top notch and widely documented online. Meanwhile, although I could find lots of Dr.Cs top great work online there wasn't as many (to my preferences) stood out compared to Dr.Bisanga's. Through many a conversation with my patient advisor Ian Rafferty, I decided to book with Dr Bisanga. I must say, my patient advisor Ian has been top class. Every question (there's been alot) has been answered to a tee. Quick response times, honest and realistic answers. There's no main sales tactic within this process. It made me feel reassured that the patients interests were best at heart. In my photos you will see the two hairlines illustrated on the photographs. The back hairline is what has been agreed between myself and Dr.Bisanga. He did mention that every patient is different.Normally Dr. Bisanga would look for a minimum distance of 7 cm between hairline and eyebrows. In my case due to facial features he has agreed to lower my hairline by 7-8mm. The white dotted hairline is what I would have wanted initially, (if possible) but I am more than happy to take on the knowledge of Dr.Bisanga, knowing he has my best interests and future mature hairline in his considerations. I'm going to document my full Jorney on this forum and possibly some others. Thanks, and I hope this is of some interest on your particular hair transplant journey.
  3. Hey guys , had 2700 grafts fue done may 2 2019 ... been on finasteride for over a year now. The shot of my forehead is the before photo obviously .. the shot of my donor area is the day of a bald fade mid height hair cut ( I now know not to go that low again lol ) but it’s good for you guys to see fue scars , and how they can differ from one patient to another . Overall what do you guys think ? I think I may go in for more density but I think the hair line is good . Lemme know in the comments I’d love to get some Un biased feed back
  4. Hair was like this from about 15. It doesn't get any worse but I feel like the temples are too bald, and also the hairline is higher than usual. Almost 25 now, based in south of Europe and the prices are like 2-2.5 Euro per graft here. Not sure how much will I need - 1500 for the temples? Tried minoxidil and some basic tablets to no help (was like a year). Doesn't seem to reced even without any treatment now or to thin, but I certainly believe that something is definitely off, giving an unpleasant look, making me also looking older in a bad way. Open to any recommendations. To clarify, I just want to look objectively better and not sure how should I go in the realm of hair. Much appreciated. Images attached.
  5. Hey all, I'm a 34 year old guy with fine blonde hair that has receded at the hairline and temples a decent amount. I've been perusing this site off and on for years now and have finally decided to pull the trigger on a procedure. I originally was scheduled to go to Belgium for a procedure, but do to the climate of the world these days, have elected to go a different route. I didn't make that decision with ease, as I've seen great surgeries coming out of Belgium, Turkey, and Spain. However, I live in the California Bay Area and have been following Dr John Diep's results closely, and have been impressed. I am of course nervous about the outcome of the procedure, but have been on the fence for far too long and feel like it's time to go for it. Dr Diep quoted me about 2500 grafts FUE. With all the research I've done, that was about what I was expecting. The fact that my hair is so fine makes me think that I'm going to need 2 surgeries for the density that I want, but so be it if it ends up looking the way that I want it to. I'm also concerned about the temples looking natural. That seems to be one of the more difficult things for surgeons and the techs to get right. Again though, I've seen some good ones come from Diep's office. While I've mostly seen positive things from Dr Dieps office, I've seen some negative posts on here from a few years back as well, both of which I believe were FUT. I actually called and am going in for a second consultation with Diep next week to ask questions about his techs, my hairline design, how big of a punch they will use, expected yield, etc. My HT is currently scheduled for Feb 18, so just over a month away. Would love to hear back from past Diep patients or anyone with fine lighter colored hair who's had FUE done to restore hairline and temples.
  6. Hi, I finally decided to bite the bullet and went with Dr Demirsoy on 20th December 2017. Although I was very nervous at first, Muzaffer who is the translator and organiser is a very calming character and kept me informed at all times so felt very comfortable and well looked after. The experience of it all I can't really fault at all so I wont bore people with the details as i'm sure you've heard it all before. Everything went very smoothly and only painful part i found was the injections in the donor area but this is only a very short part of the entire procedure so no real issue.

  9. Dr. Diep FUE hair transplant surgery result on Norwood 4 male hair loss pattern after hairline, edges/temples and frontal area restoration using over 2,800 hair grafts during 1 year follow up. 10. Hello everyone! I just had my first ever FUE with Artas but I feel that the doctor could have lowered my hairline and filled in the temples. That's what I was expecting and told him so, however, he refused saying that my whole look will not look natural and that it will crappy if my current hair starts to fall as well. I totally disagree. What do you guys think? Attached are fresh pictures, 2 hours after surgery.
  11. Dr. Shelly Friedman – ARTAS FUE – 1,541 Grafts - Norwood II - 1 Year Results Dr. Friedman performed a FUE transplant using the newest hair restoration technology, ARTAS. The ARTAS procedure enables Dr. Friedman to use a robot to harvest grafts with a precise level of control and accuracy leaving the donor area without noticeable scarring. Our patient is a 40 year old male that had sparse areas in the hairline and temples. Dr. Friedman successfully transplanted 1,541 grafts. Total of 755 single follicles were placed in the hairline and temples. 786 group follicular units were placed in frontal region, bilateral temples and hairline. FUE via the ARTAS is minimally invasive leaving the donor area with small pin sized undetectable scarring, unlike the FUT lateral eclipse scarring. ARTAS is best for those who may desire to keep a short styled hair cut or shave their head. Dr. Friedman uses custom blades and strategically places each follicular unit at the correct angle and direction creating the patient’s transplanted grafts to grow in a natural pattern. These photos show our patient pre-op and 1 year post-op. Patient’s hair loss prevention is using low-level laser therapy every other day for 30 minutes.
  12. A bit about myself: I'm a 32 year old male and I've had a receding hairline since I was about 24. I jumped on propecia (half a pill) and rogaine relativitly soon thereafter, and either because of that or just because of genetics, the rest of my hair is actually quite full and healthy. I'd say I'm an aggressive Norwood 2 on my left side and a Norwood 3 on my right side. I became adept at using my forelock to cover my hairless but even that slowly became less effective and it was also annoying to have to worry about strategic hair placement all the time. Most people, if they found out I had a hair transplant, would say I didn't need one, and it's true I never felt I needed one, but now that I've had one, it only validated my belief that a modest change to my hairline would make a significant aesthetic result. Now onto that: I had waffled with the idea of having a hair transplant for years. Being relatively young and having most of my hair in tact, I juggled feelings of doubt (would I regret filling in my temples if all the rest of my hair falls out in the next ten years), money (hair transplants are not cheap!), guilt (with so many balding people who would love my hair, was I being shallow in wanting a relatively minor area filled) and even basic philosophical questions like "given I can't stop my body from aging, isn't it better to just accept aging as it comes instead of trying to fight it, which is a guaranteed losing battle?" But recently I decided to stop overthinking things and adopt the theory that if I did my research and gave myself enough time to reflect that this is what I really wanted, then I could go forward with the surgery and live with whatever consequences there were, knowing I educated myself as much as I could at the time. Thus, I met with a number of doctors and did an insane amount of research, to the point I became an untrained expert on hairloss, and ultimately I decided I did want to proceed, but I wanted to proceed with the best doctor I could possibly find. That ended up being Dr. Konior. I had 1230 FUEs, and granted I'm young and healthy, but the work was so well done that 7 days after the surgery I was able to buzz my head so my existing hair was the same length as the new grafts, and nobody noticed I had a transplant - they all only complimented me on the new buzzed look. There were no visible scabs in the recipient area and no visible scars in the donor area that shortly after surgery. Dr. Konior and his staff are utmost professionals and are very good at being available. Dr. Konior has a reputation as being a perfectionist, and everything I've seen thus far has lived up to that. Not only were my recipient area and donor area extremely clean (even Dr. Konior's staff remarked at how unusually clean they were), I had very minimal pain afterward and it was only for the first few days. Granted, perhaps my age and overall health, along with my relatively small number of grafts, led to such fast healing, and I have yet to see how the grafts will actually grow, but so far every expectation of mine has well been exceeded. Dr. Konior is an artful FUE doctor, and while pricey, worth every penny if you can afford it. If you're looking for the best, you might find equivalents, but I doubt you'd find better. I'll update this, and hopefully my sentiments will not have changed, when the grafts grow.
  13. Dr. Friedman performed a strip transplant on a 27 yr. old male with sparse areas in the hairline, temples and crown. Dr. Friedman artistically redesigned patient’s hair line working his way back to the crown. Dr. Friedman successfully transplanted 2,887 grafts. 1,117 single follicles were placed in hairline and temples. 1,770 group follicles were placed in frontal region and mid scalp anterior. Dr. Friedman used custom blades and strategically placed each follicular unit at the correct angle and direction creating the patient’s transplanted grafts to grow in a natural pattern. Photos show patient pre-op and 6 months post-op, which is when a patient may see up to 50% hair growth. Patient’ hair loss prevention is using low-level laser therapy.

  17. Hey everyone, just though i'd register to this site has it seems really informative and it's nice to know i'm not alone in hair loss at such a young age. Anyway, I say young (i'm 25). I noticed about 2 months ago my temples and general hair line was receding rapidly. Is their any products that work to stop the receding or even regrow my hair back? I'm from the UK and i've read about Regaine but thats like ?50 for a mere 3 months! I just want something that'll slow down the process and hopefully regrow the hair, without paying a huge sum of cash. Please can anyone help, i'd be most grateful. Thanks.
  18. After lurking the forums for a couple months now, I've finally decided to become somewhat more active. So I'll start by saying howdy to the rest of the bunch! I'm a 22 year old university student who has dealt with temple recession for some time now. I've had a widow's peak since as far back as I can remember. Nearly every man on my mother's side of the family have had similar hairlines, but no excessive balding as far as I know. As far as my dad's side is concerned, I only know that my father has receded slightly in to a mature hairline, but this didn't start until he was well in his late 30s and still has a healthy head of hair. I've also been the one to sport longer hairstyles, but with the growing recession that's been somewhat difficult to pull off. I decided to shave my head about a month ago and it hasn't made things a whole lot better. If anything it's even more obvious now. It's been somewhat difficult for me to judge the rate of my hair loss, as my temples have been fairly high for several years, since the summer of 2009 at least. But it does seem as though the left side of my head has slightly more recession, and I'm beginning to wonder if the entire scalp is thinning, though I may just be getting paranoid. Again no one in my family has anything past a NW 3, but I suppose that doesn't mean I won't be dealing with it... So at this point I'm quite eager to start doing something about this. I've been doing extensive research on HT and as a student who's still looking to go to graduate school, it doesn't seem financially promising for the time being. I have noticed a lot of good things about Dr. Radha Rani in particular, which may be a perfect option considering it's cheaper (I could invest more easily), and I've always wanted to visit India (I have studied Hindi and am focusing on Buddhist Studies, which makes Vizag historically VERY relevant to my field). But again, this doesn't seem to be an affordable option for the time being, so my next step would be to have a consultation with a dermatologist. As soon as I can find one in this middle-of-nowhere town I will, but I would also like to get an opinion from the community: What sort of medications would you recommend for someone with my type of hair loss? I feel as though if my hair were thicker, the hairline itself wouldn't be as much of an issue to maintain and hide. Then again, preventing or reversing further recession may be more of a priority and if I could restore my hairline in any way I would. I've heard minoxidil works for some people. Any suggestions? I'm open to sharing whatever I know. Also my album shows a few photos that may give an idea of what we're looking at.
