  3. Has anybody used Dr Stoller (NYC) for an FUE? I had a consultation with him yesterday and he seems to know his stuff. I am just about to put down a deposit but I wanted to see if I could get any recommendations here first? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  4. Hi All, I recently got a consultation from Maxim in NYC and if I choose them the surgeon performing my FUE would be either Dr David Mayer or Dr Doshi. Does anybody have experience with either? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Confused in NYC!
  5. Patient in mid 50s received an FUE hair transplant from Dr. Dorin for frontal restoration. This treatment consisted of 1282 follicular units of which 427 are singles, 679 doubles, and 176 threes. Result is 1.5 years post-op. Bio adjuncts Liposomal ATP spray for post-op healing and intraoperative PRP administered. Patient with likely progression to a NW 5A, fine hair, donor supply @ 5000 grafts. Propecia intiated just prior to surgery.
  6. #BeforeAndAfterMondays This male patient underwent a follicular unit extraction (FUE) session with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley in which a total of 2336 grafts were placed. His hair follicles were incubated in autologous (his own) platelet rich plasma (PRP) throughout the duration of the procedure. This, combined with an ATP-containing storage solution has been shown to enhance survival of transplanted hairs. Rather than a larger FUE punch used by a robotic approach, Dr. Wesley used a smaller caliber hand-held motorized punch to performed the donor harvest. This approach better enabled the capture of donor hair roots that are slightly curved beneath the skin surface. Upon completion of the harvest, the patient’s donor area was treated with PRP and ACell in order to not only minimize scar tissue formation, but also encourage partial regeneration of donor hair follicles. The patient returned three years after his procedure and images of the patient can be seen below.
  7. I have been viewing these forums for some time now probably since I was in high school. I always knew I was going to bald as it runs in both sides of my family however I expected it to begin much later in life. I’m in my late 20s now starting thinning/ receding since 19 years old. Once I noticed I wanted to get on the phone and start booking consultations but knew that my balding was going to progress more. As you’ll see in the photos – in a NW4 (correct me if I’m wrong). And I’m finally ready to move forward on my 1st procedure. I Have been doing more research as of late and have found 3 doctors that I think can return my hairline to what it once was like in photo shown (~7 years ago) . I took measurements of my hairline frame back when I was a senior in highchool and it was from Mid Brow to center hairline (6.5 cm) and from mid forhead to side (8.5 cm) now I’m at 10cm & 10cm respectively and 14cm back on top!! I have scheduled video consultations with Dr.Diep in California, Dr. Huebner in Florida, and have spoken to Dr.Vories in NC. I’m leaning more towards the FUT / Strip method as I have read that it yields more density, larger sessions, cost less, and I plan on doing more procedures (FUE or FUT) as my balding continues so don’t want to use all the supply. I have been told i may need 3000 grafts to bring in my frontal and side hairlines back to it where it was a few years ago. (do you agree?) I would like to hear your opinions on my case and recommend any doctors. I’m in the New York Area - I prefer someone in the Northeast but willing to travel Late 20s Hispanic (with Italian and African background so my hair is curly). Best Regards,
  8. Hi All, As you may know, August has been declared National Hair Loss Awareness Month in order to raise the public’s awareness of hair loss as a common problem affecting millions of both men and women. As August comes to a close we would like bring attention to ISHRS's pro bono program, 'Operation Restore.' This program provides free hair transplants for those who experience localized hair loss due to trauma or illness. In recognition of hair loss awareness month, Bernstein Medical has launched a fundraiser for Operation Restore. Click here to donate and Bernstein Medical will match your donation! Please include ‘Bernstein Medical’ in the “This Donation is Being Made on Behalf of:” box.
  9. Hello everyone! So I have decided to undergo surgery with Dr. Robert Dorin in NY given the excellent results I saw on his website and the encouraging reviews about him and his fellow associate Dr. True on this forum. Given my case, I was offered the two traditional routes but for different grafts: 1. The FUT route for 2,200 to 2,500 grafts 2. The FUE for 1,700 I know both will produce different results and they both have different fees so I really do not know what to choose. I have a budget and want to make the most out of it. Another confusing point is that this guy http://www.truedorin.com/photogallery/case-studies-male-5567/1205-fut-by-dr-true-19937 (who's featured as a case study on their website) had a fewer number of grafts and to me his pre-operation state is somehow similar to mine! I let you decide, maybe I'm wrong My priority is to lower the hairline - density is secondary. In addition, i like to keep my hair short on the sides and in the back so, although the FUT route is really tempting given the high number of grafts, I really don't want to create a new different problem with the scar in the back of my head. Here are my pictures. What is the number of grafts you think I should choose? Many thanks! )
  10. This is probably my first post on any forum of any kind, as I have been moved to do so by my amazing experience with Dr. Carlos Wesley. I first went to Dr. Wesley about four years ago, at the end of a year’s worth of research and the last of many consults. I actually had two more scheduled that day but cancelled them after leaving his office as I knew I wanted him to do my work. I started losing my hair around age 17 but by 21 it was very noticeable and I knew it was time. From the moment I sat down with Dr. Wesley it was as if this nightmare was going to be alright after all. And four years later….IT WAS. I’ve had three FUE procedures with Dr. Wesley, for a total of about 3500 hairs transplanted from donor on my head and beard into the hairline and back until the far crown. I would be completely bald if it weren’t for his skillful work, as he perfectly balanced his artfully conservative approach with my nagging requests for more more more. Numerous times Dr. Wesley has turned down my requests (and potential profit) for things such as full crown coverage and further SMP. He simply says that it will not benefit me in the future and 4 ears later I’m already so pleased with his guidance and approach. As far as his work goes, I’ve never seen better. There is NO scaring from my FUE (donor from head or beard) and the hairline and all transplants are flawless. No friend or colleague has ever even suspected that I’ve had work done, as Dr. Wesley’s approach was a little conservative yet provided perfect coverage. His staff is unbelievable and his office is very well run from top to bottom. I always felt so welcomed and looked after during my many visits. Dr. Wesley is one of the kindest and most caring doctors I’ve met and he’s looked after me as if I were his own family. He is always at conferences and a leading pioneer of a new scarless FUE technique, and coming form a family with a strong medical background, I know that this passion and dedication is so very important. I strongly recommend Dr. Wesley and his entire staff. He has given me my life (hair) back! I would be more than happy to answer any questions.
  11. I understand this might not be the most tactful question (or first post) but as I'm deliberating and seriously considering both doctors Feller & Wesley in/near NYC I have to ask some forum users if they could shed light on the following. Feller is highly recommended and I might very well go with him after a consultation, but I may be able to get in earlier (and I've got some other life events to plan around) with Wesley (who also seems to do amazing work). My problem with Wesley is the potential cost. I love that Dr. Feller publishes his cost guidelines, I haven't managed to find any info here or elsewhere regarding what to expect with Dr. Wesley. I would probably go FUT, and though I know costs can vary greatly I would love a ball park idea. Since Wesley seems to do beautiful work and is literally on Park Avenue in NYC, I sort of expect him to do 2000 grafts for 15k (at least) whereas Feller appears to quote 10k on his site. Am I wrong? I know cost should not be the final determining factor in this decision, but maybe it can be with 2 equally excellent doctors? I'm fine with the $100 consultation fee, but it is a 2-3 hour drive for each doctor, so I wouldn't mind somehow getting a sense of this info before starting to log consultation miles. If anyone has any idea, kindly assist me on the forum or private message. I know it's a sensitive topic. Of course feel free to wish me luck actually pulling this whole thing off. Kudos on the forum as it's been a great resource thus far. Thanks to all who contribute.
  12. Hi guys I posted this before/after in another popular forum, but wanted to share some results of a client of mine who wanted to cover his transplant scars, but also leave his hair a bit longer. Most clients are recommended to cut the hair shorter for ideal camouflage...but it is certainly possible to get a good concealment even at a longer hair length...check attached:
  13. Dr. Wesley has been invited as a featured speaker at the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Conference. This 31st Annual Scientific Meeting entitled "Technological Advancements in Cosmetic Surgery" will showcase some of the world's top surgeons with sub-specialties ranging from Rhinoplasty to Liposuction. The presentation will take place on January 14th, 2015 in New Orleans, LA and a preliminary schedule of presentations can viewed [https://c.ymcdn.com/sites/cosmeticsurgery.site-ym.com/resource/resmgr/Annual_Meeting_2015/AACS_Program.pdf]. Dr. Wesley has been invited to present on the Technology panel, "Advancements in Hair Restoration." Specifically, the presentation is to focus on the novel sub dermal approach to intact hair follicle harvesting (piloscopy []Recent Advancements in field of Hair Restoration Surgery) that has demonstrated a 45% improved survival rate over traditional follicular unit extraction (FUE) []Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) in NYC - By Dr. Carlos K. Wesley, MD. These findings are statistically significant. As the Founder and CEO of Pilofocus [http://www.pilofocus.com/company-profile.html], a surgical device company dedicated to the development of this hair follicle harvesting technology, Dr. Wesley has presented the original findings from piloscopy []Pilofocus | Scarless Hair Transplantation Surgery - By Dr. Carlos K. Wesley, MD at the International Society of Hair Restoration [http://www.ishrs.org] (ISHRS) Conference in 2013. This presentation, however, will include updated information regarding not only findings in the donor and recipient areas, but also the experiences of patients who have undergone this surgical procedure.
  14. This 40-year-old man really wanted to reverse his "hair fortune" and add density atop his head. His concern was a natural appearance - even if it meant going "zero to sixty" (as a patient coined when very little recipient hair initially exists). A 2605-graft session with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley in NYC helped frame his face with a natural-appearing hairline as seen before and 17 months after his procedure.
  15. Forgive me for indulging, but I can't help but share the "hair tips" offered by my wife, Anna Kaiser, yesterday on Yahoo Beauty's article "How Top Fitness Instructors Maintain Such Great Hair". Proud of her!
  16. A common observation amongst patients during the early phase of hair growth following surgical hair restoration (either FUT or FUE) is ingrown hair follicles. The "pimples" that some (but not all) patients experience generally represent focal inflammation (folliculitis) where a newly-ingrowing hairs are beginning to surface. Patients can often feel reassured knowing that these generally precede more apparent hair growth over the following weeks and months. They can be seen in both the recipient area (where transplanted hairs are coming in) or donor region (especially in FUE where any residual hair fragments may be coming in). They may be more commonly observed in zones where the angle of hair implantation is the sharpest angle (e.g. the vertex or crown as seen in the attached image) In general, a simple cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol can be used to rub on each pimple. The microabrasion allows the nearly-ingrowing hair to surface and resume growth. It's relatively rare that an antibiotic is required, but even a one-week course of antibiotic can have a positive impact. The ultimate appearance is not impacted by the presence absence of a few "pimples" and patients should simply be aware that they generally represent an early phase of growth.
  17. Hi Guys, After interviewing all of NYC's recommended doctors (Bernstein, T/D, Feller) I've decided on going ahead with the procedure with Dr. Wesley. I felt most comfortable with him. He said that his technique is so precise that I shouldn't expect any shock loss. T/D said I would expect considerable shock loss. Wesley also spent the most time with me and showed me multiple before and after pictures of patients with similar cases to me. He thinks I will have between 23-2500. Here's what it will look like:
  18. Hi, I'm Derek and am new here. I'm 31 years old and have been losing my hair slowly since I was 19. I have been on Propecia and have been on Avodart for the past few years. For the most part it has worked. I am not balding on my crown that bad, but my hairline keeps on receding ever so slowly and it's gotten to the point where I need to do something about it. Luckily I have pretty long hair so I am able to somewhat hide the fact that it is receding. Who is the absolute best person to go to for transplant work in New York? I have been told I have terrific donor areas and would only need my hairline filled in and a bit on crown. Dr. David Orentreich has been my family dermatologist for years, and has kept me with a good amount of hair, but I can't find many reviews on him. I know his father Norman created the hair transplant, but is he good? I have been doing research and it also sounds like Carlos Wesley is very good as is Dr. Bernstein . I feel like Berstein might just have the best advertising though! There is also Dr. Feller.. Can anyone lead me to the absolute best? Luckily, I make a good enough living that I am willing to pay to have the best results. I've attached some pics of my "situation" Any advise would be so so appreciated.
  19. This 22-year-old male was bothered by the progressive thinning of his hairline and the frontal portion of his scalp. His surgical hair restoration session with Dr. Wesley included included 2507 grafts incubated in platelet-rich plasma (PRP). In addition to his surgical session, the portion of his mid scalp that did not receive grafts was treated with PRP injection and stimulation with a 0.5mm micro roller. The patient returned to Dr. Wesley's office at 10 months. Early growth from his transplant can be seen and this patient's response to subcutaneous PRP injection is included in a larger investigation currently being conducted by Dr. Wesley's office.
  20. Here is a 42-year-old man who wanted the fullness of his hairline back. The results of a 2326-graft follicular unit transplantation (FUT) session with Dr. Wesley can be seen at 11 months after his surgery. The patient is ecstatic.
  21. Hello Friends, I am a new member and posting this on my 35th birthday. After suffering hair-loss for 20 years, I feel like I cannot wait any longer. I am considering HT and have done countless hours of research on forums like these. I'm a NW 3/3V. I live and work in NYC but am willing to travel anywhere for the best results. But I still don't know who to go to. I have checked out a lot of ISHRS doctors, Golden/Platinum follicle award winners. I am still at a loss since that narrows the pool to a few hundred doctors. A few doctors I have shortlisted are Feriduni, Hassan/Wong, Feller, Wesley, Sharon Keane, Gho. I feel like every time I do more research I end up adding another doc to my list. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you.
  22. This 55 year-old man received 1709 grafts to the frontal third of his scalp. He returned after 11 months to say "hello" to Dr. Wesley and his staff. In general, salt and pepper hair coloration enables greater coverage with a smaller number of grafts as compared with a different hair color that contrasts sharply with the color of a patient's scalp.
  23. Dr Rahal will be visiting New York City for consultations on May 3rd and 4th. Spaces are limited so please don't hesitate to register your interest. Email: info@rahalhairtransplant.com Or call: 1-877-712-4247 Consultations are free of charge. I'll update this thread once the exact location is known, although if you contact us you'll be kept informed.
  24. Another early developer here - Dr. True did an initial follicular unit hair transplant procedure to restore density and contour to this patient's hairline. 1,998 follicular units were transplanted consisting of 666 singles, 1189 doubles, and 143 threes - a total of 3,473 hairs.
