  1. I can understand your points and they are very well taken. I too in doing my due diligence and speaking with literally every major clinic met with some great advisors and doctors and also not so great advisors/doctors. I can understand where you are coming from when speaking about SMG as I too had a consult there. I can relate to you when you say the advisor was selling their clinic but I was also able to re-direct the convo to speak more about me. I must say there was definitely some selling that SMG is great but I must say that Matt did educate me on a lot of different HT areas and I took away from the convo additional education outside of the selling aspect of his pitch. On the other hand, I also met with Joetronic of H&W and I must say Joe is an absolute class act. He literally picked me up from the airport and introduced me to everyone at H&W making me feel very comfortable. Since I traveled so far just for a consult, Joe even took me out to dinner on him where he really educated me on HT's and never bad mouthed any other clinic. His opinions were very objective and educational and never tried to pitch me. I learned a lot from hanging out with him not to mention his hair looked amazing in person. He definitely adds a lot of value to H&W! Rahal is also great as he shows extreme confidence in his abilities but NEVER comes across as cocky or arrogant which I really enjoyed on my consultation. Also as you said, his opinions were very objective and never said anything bad about the other clinics. He too was a class act and took the time to explain everything and also personalize my consultation never rushing me and also giving me a lot of say in my HT design. Bottom line you need to assess the doctor based on YOUR standards and what YOU EXPECT a HT doctor should be saying and also what their PROVEN results are. I truly recommend everyone actually talk and really SEE patients from the doctor to really see their work. Pictures are great but I feel once you see their patient's results then and only then can you really make a true decision. I know this sealed the deal for me as I was always worried especially about scarring but once I saw Rahal's undetectable scars, I was sold and felt comfortable that this guy was the right choice for me along with his great hairline work.
  2. Nice...congrats...can you describe to everyone how the procedure was performed? How is this method different from the current ones out there already?! I'm sure all of us would love to know. Thanks!
  3. Corv, You appear to have great hair in the mid scalp and crown so technically you don't need Propecia. However, you DO NOT want to wake up one day and see a little thinning in the mid scalp and/or crown and look back and feel like you missed your opportunity to stop it with Propecia while you still had good quality hair like you do now. Because once that happens you are behind and have to pray Fin works at that point. If I were you I would heavily consider it because like I said before you don't want to start Fin when you are already losing some hair vs. taking it now and never worrying about it again. As a side note, I was on SP for many years thinking it would work so I wouldn't have to take FIN. I can't really say whether it helped or not because although I thinned somewhat I can't say if I wasn't on SP it would have been worse. That is the problem with hair...it is not like say a pimple where you put medicine on it and can easily see if it works or not in a few weeks. With hair it is very difficult to see if anything is truly working. Hope this helps!
  4. There is definitely not a need for a HT at this point for you. Since you are so young and have a good amount of hair (sure perhaps your hairline can be beefed up and/or straightened but it is too early in your hair loss for that)...I recommend as everyone did, to get on Propecia to stop any further loss. Give it at least 1 year to see if your hair loss has stabilized. Re-visit this in 1 year after meds and go from there. Good Luck!
  5. Looks really good...congrats!!! The scar has healed quite nicely...pencil thin! Good stuff! Keep us all posted!!!
  6. Hey everyone! Quick question...I have narrowed my HT docs down and a few are in Canada and I live in USA. I am curious to see how the whole exchange rate works. I obvious know how to convert the rate but wanted to see how everyone chose to pay for the procedure meaning did you find a benefit to pay on a credit card or is there a better way to finance it to avoid exchange fees. I called a few of my credit cards today and they said it would be a 3% transaction fee but apparently they don't charge on the conversion rate which I find that to be not true based on my experience but was having trouble getting the rep to tell me anything further. So I ask everyone who has had a HT in canada from USA, is there anything you can add to this in order to illustrate the best way to pay and your experience with any "hidden" fees charged? Thanks!!!
  7. Great story and read! Sounds like you had a wonderful experience and it is really good that you shed some light on a doctor who isn't as well published as the other coalition dr's. Your post definitely made me look Dr. Gabel up and review his work! Happy Growing and def keep us posted on your growth!!!
  8. Do you have any pics for us to see? What NW are you? What did Rahal say? He is def known for his densely packed nice hairlines.
  9. Good stuff Sean! Very refined and the hairline design is really good...frames your face nicely!!! Please keep all of us posted!!!
  10. I understand what you are going through Standbyme. I have a similar opinion...i've done the research, have the money, etc but there is something holding me back too at times. I use Toppik so that quiets me down from thinking my hairloss is really that bad but it def does get in the way of life in that it is tough for me to leave the house without it esp on vacations where there is water involved and girls I date too...I am worried they will see the toppik or if I go away with them it is hard to apply bc they are in the room with me. I say to myself I could perhaps live with the look Toppik gives me as it just makes me look like i have a mature hairline but I then say to myself that NOW is the time to get the HT so I can have my real hairline back to enjoy while in my 30's as opposed to waiting for it to get worse to the point where i will have to get a HT but then I'll be in my 40's and life would have passed me by (I mean this in that my hair loss would have hurt my social life so why not get it when I am in the main heart of my social life and making life changing decisions). I'm still doing my final consultations now but hopefully I will make my decision either way. Do you have any pics?! Do u use Toppik? I would use that waaay before a hair piece...as I can only imagine how annoying and difficult that would be to pull off as friend of mine had a piece from Hair Club and although it looked decent it was a nightmare to maintain.
  11. I can't tell but the guy originally seemed to be doing a big comb over. The finished result seems a little comb over ish too...not saying it is but I would like to see the hair combed back to truly see the final result.
  12. That is insane...I see this guy on TV all the time and every time i see him I am like UNBELIEVABLE hairline...must be easy to wash his tiny forehead! lol This guy has literally never lost a hair...what a life! LOL I used to think it was fake but it doesn't appear that way.
  13. Very interesting find!!! I too don't think a service would be included as it just seems to be "goods". I want to look into this further though...could be a big savings! Anyone here actually try to claim this...any luck?!
  14. thanks for all of your responses...Wylie: I can't use the travel size bc the spray nozzle doesn't fit onto the smaller one. Lorenzo: The appt. is at 3:30 I think...have to confirm with Joe tomorrow. I am afraid it will get taken away...I CAN NOT afford to have it taken away...not so much the Toppik bottle/fibers but my spray nozzle...bc I still have the old school one that looks like an old school perfume nozzle...i heavily dislike the new ones and I can't find the old school ones anymore. So i may just not bring it and live without toppik for the 2 days...sounds almost like an impossible feat...i pray i don't see anyone I know!!! lol.
  15. Perhaps this is an odd and/or interesting question but I am going to see Hasson and Wong this thursday Sept.1 and I wanted to see if I could carry on Toppik?! Has anyone carried on Toppik before? I have always checked it with my baggage but since I am going for just 1 day I want to carry on. it would be great to see if anyone did this as I will use it on the way back home. Thanks!!!
  16. It doesn't look that bad...remember HT's always look bad for a while...granted the hairline isn't completely symmetrical but as someone noted above hairlines aren't always perfect. I think that once you grow it out it will cover any imperfections. Overall i think it looks pretty good...how many grafts were taken...looks like a lot!!! Hang in there and now all you can do is sit and wait...I'm sure you will look fine once this grows out and if you want to fix it a little you always can...at least the bulk of your thinning/recession is taken care of now! hang in there!
  17. Thats a very interesting point in that it does seem good in that you can shave the sides shorter bc there is no scare evidence as it is higher up...sounds smart actually! As i said before I am certain H&W know what they are doing as their results are insane.
  18. I am absolutely looking forward to your detailed report as I am too considering Dr. Rahal. Good luck!!!
  19. I never doubted H&W's scar placement but I was always curious why it was a lot higher than literally all the other scars I have seen...i'm gathering they have a reason for it. That is really cool you have seen so many surgeries live...I would definitely love to see one live and in person. I am always amazed at their you tube videos and how they produce such dense results...unbelievable. I sent them my pics and they said about 2,500 to 3,000. I left a message with Joe and am awaiting a call back to discuss this consultation.
  20. Thanks for your response Lorenzo! yes I am Italian. I consulted with Feller too and he said only 1,200 give or take. How would you rate your H&W experience?! Their videos are great but i gather that is only their best patients?! Also, every H&W scar...it always seems to be very high...do you know why this is? i guess they know what they are doing but always curious to know why it seems so high though?
  21. I hear your point...it is weird to say but sometimes the people who are further along in their balding patterns tend to be able to get a great HT bc they don't have to worry about future loss really...they can just go to town and utilize a good portion of their donor hair...vs. say a NW 3 where you are so afraid to be a little aggressive in the hairline bc of POTENTIAL further loss. I think that 3k FU's to restore the hairline/temples/corners is reasonable. With that you could get good density...that would leave about 3-4k left for the crown area where you can get away with the "illusion of density". The hairline makes the most cosmetic difference. I also use concealers...do u?! They are awesome as they really take the pain of not having a great hairline away....creates the illusion of density...i never leave home without it...even past girlfriends have never known I use them! lol. Rahal and H&W are great for dense packing...esp Rahal. Their rates are competitive some what...they do offer travel discounts which help out. Rahal and H&W are great if you want just one pass so with that one pass comes more cost because if you broke up the procedure into 2 passes like say a Dorin does it obviously would cost less each time but in the end it still all equals out. Again...I wouldn't let money really be the driving force...obviously if you are tight it is understandable but all the dr's offer some kind of financing. I am going to just charge it as I have 0% interest for a year and then just pay it off during the year. I too just started propecia like 5 months ago give or take...not sure if it has been working too early to tell too...seeing less shedding in the shower which is great! Def upload some pics when you get some time.
  22. Nice...I was considering FUE with Rahal...keep us all posted and good luck!!!
  23. Definitely sounds like we are in the same boat...it is interesting to hear different dr's take on what I need done...i have spoken with Rahal and H&W too...they were the more aggressive ones with around 2,500 to 3,000 give or take. I want to consult with them in person but it is hard to just hop on a plane for a 45 min consultation...the phone consults are great but I think you need to be examined. I am under the impression though that people make their decisions based on the phone consults which is interesting and the day of they basically have their first and last consultation! lol. Don't let price deter you...because if you go to a dr just based on a better price i'm sure you would wind up spending A LOT more trying to fix it if it doesn't come out good. I would really like to get it done in "one pass" vs. 2 passes as 2,500 isn't a big procedure at all compared to others I have seen. Rahal and H&W would be the ones to do that if I went that route. I love how H&W have all those videos and such detailed ones too! Rahal doesn't really have that many pictures or on his website he has pics but they don't go into detail as to how many grafts, etc. He doesn't really have any good youtube videos either. He does great hairlines though and so dense which is nice. He dense packs which is great for a hairline but you don't want to also blow all of your donor hairs in the hairline in case you get worse and need to play catch up! I have seen Dr. Diep's videos...seem pretty good but he doesn't get any real exposure like the reknown doc's do on this site. I would def meet with T&D to talk shop with them and see what they have to say...Dorin is great. I have found out that the more research you do the more confusing it seems to become to pick a dr! lol. Obviously though you need to do the research. Do you have any pics? You can check out my lovely hairline on my profile lol.
