  1. if you have a strong family history of hair loss than you may want to consider trying propecia to stabalize your situation. Rogaine is and laser are other options. All of thes have been shown to be effective for some patients and not have much effect on others.
  2. If you still had a lot of scabs when you had your sutures removed than you probably did not wash the donor area as aggessively as you could have. You should wash it in a side to side/ ear to ear fashion. Most of my patients who return 7-10 days after the procedure have almost no scab remaining and the suture removal takes less than 5 minutes.
  3. If you do not have the gene for genetic hair loss than this should be a temporary situation. Continued hair pulling can cause permanant traction alopecia (hair loss). If you have only been using the extensions for 4 months, your hair loss should be temporary and start to regrow within 3-4 months.
  4. This sounds really interesting. I am looking forward to diving in and helping potential patients and existing patients learn more about the reality of hair restoration.
  5. Unfortunetly, there is no exact science in determining who will inherit their family hair loss genes and who will not. It can come from one side or the other and often is some kind of combination. There are a few diagnostic tests available that can help predict those who are likely to have advanced hair loss. (Hair Dx is one that I can think of off hand)
  6. I hope your confidence sores as your new hair grows in. Keep a positive attitude and focus on the important things in your life. Before you know it the suttle chances will start to happen for you. Good luck.
  7. It is more common for patients to advance to a Norwood stage 6/7 if significant hair loss occurs in the patients 20's/30's. However, I have seen patients progress to more advanced stage of hair loss later in life. Take a good look at your family history and maybe it will give you some in sight.
  8. 43 year old patient who was looking to correct the receding parts of the hairline and add density to the frontal area behind the hairline.
  9. It would be easier to answer your question if you had a some pictures of yourself a few years back. Also the photos are almost to magnified and you cannot tell the height of the hairline because your other facial features are not in the photographs.
  10. Good question. One big concern would be all the other potential side effects that the anti rejection medication can cause. Is it worth it for a hair transplant procedure?
  11. I wish we had an answer to the question why in some but not others. That would be like having the answer to how the lions could be that bad every year and not get better like most other teams. Unfortunetly, I am also from Detroit and actually still watch them every Sunday. Not sure why. Where has Barry gone? Any previously transplanted hair will come back. If you still had some original hairs that were very weak and ready to fall out they may be lost, byt you will be replacing them with permanant hairs. Good luck.
  12. I think that donor density is probably the single most important factor. However, hair caliper (hair shaft diameter) and scalp laxity are also both very important. I would prefer great density with average laxity over average density and really good laxity.
  13. Most would think that the drug companies are the ones that try to suppress or delay the release of new cures to fight certain diseases. Who knows if they or the government has reason to stall the release of new technology like hair multiplication.
  14. How old are you? Does any other males in your family have this similar pattern of hair loss. The crown area tends to need more grafting than the frontal area to obtain good coverage. Most patients have a swirl that originates somewhere in the crown region. This leads to hair dispersing in all different directions and you do not get the layering effect that you would in the frontal region.
  15. The most conservative approach is to have the front 1/2 including the hairline done first. It is probably smart to prioritize. Most patients agree that the front is more important than the back. When you spread the grafts out over a larger area in younger patients like yourself, tend to be dissatisfied with the results because the density is not what they were hoping for.
  16. Hair growth can certainly be delayed. You should contact the doctor who performed your surgery and see what they have to say. Hang in there. I have had patients who had very little growth for the first 5 months and eventually had very good results. Did you have any post operative comlication?
  17. If you post some frontal photos even with face blocked out it would be helpful. It would trhen be possible to determine how good of a candidate you are for hair transplantation. Good luck.
  18. Technically you can get a sun burn through a window. To much sun exposure after a hair transplant is not recommended. The recipient area is usually red and irritated already and sun exposure can only make it worse. Sunlight through a window and a curtain will not likely cause any damage depending on the thickness of the curtain and the angle at which the sunlight hits the scalp.
  19. If you use common sense than most likely you will not cause any harm. Cleaning is good, excessive scrubbing is not necessary. Hair washing does not cause hair loss. Pulling on the hairs direcly can cause damage and excellerate genetic loss.
  20. I agree that if you speak with the people at H&W they will do everything they can to try and help you. There are several different financing option available. Be patient even if it means you need to postpone your surgery for a little while. If you are totaly stressed out over it than maybe it is not the right time.
  21. I do think that it is a good idea to get in good health and be happy with your weight and body fat composition before considering cosmetic surgery. If you are able to accomplish the body improvements and still feel that the hair will give you more confidence or higher self esteem than a hair transplant may become a viable option.
  22. The Rogaine can increase blood circulation on what ever part of the scalp you apply it to. This is the reason that some doctors recommend using it post operatively. It has been shown to decrease post operative shock loss of native hairs. It can be used on a temporary basis under certain circumstances.
  23. Sound like a big case. Wer are all hoping your results come out great. Please keep in touch and let us know as you start to get results.
  24. Have no idea what jonusb is talking about or what it has to do with scalp exercises. 10-15 minutes per day for a month or two should be plenty. If you are a first timer than you probably already have desent scalp laxity. It is more important when have multple procedures over a period of time.
  25. We all have occational stress. Or maybe I should say that those who do not have occational stress are very lucky. In order ot maintain a healthy state we all need a certain amount of REM sleep. When a person is deprived of sleep their immune system will be suppressed. Eventually the lack of sleep will catch up with those who are deprived of it.
