  1. I would recommend 1800-2000 follicular unit grafts. The area is not that big and you already have apprx. 2000 grafts there from prior procedures. You also want to consider saving some donor in case you need it for some other area in the future.
  2. If you decide to have the second procedure I would recommend doing scalp stretching exercises for several months prior to the surgery. You may be able to break up or loosen some of the scar tissue and create a little more elasticity for the doctor. Even if you can get a few millimeters of additional movement, this could make removing the prior scar easier and allow the doctor to close the donor wound under minimal tension. I would also ask if the doctor uses a two layer donor closure technique. This technique allows the donor wound to be approximated with as little tension as possible while also being able to remove more donor tissue for the second procedure.
  3. Topical viamin E oil will not cause additional bleeding. It has been suggested that it may help to decrease the amount od scar tissue formation. I recommend patients apply it to the donor area at night after the sutures are taken out.
  4. Good density is a question that has a answer that is different for each patient. The patients hair characteristics such as light vs dark, straight vs curly, and coarse vs fine as well as the patients expectations are some of the factors that will help answer this question. Donor supply really depends on the size of the available area and the follicular density. Each patient would need to have these values measured to determine how big or good the donor area is.
  5. I agree with Jotronic. Any growth seen before 3 months is a bonus. You will see continued improvement over the next 7-10 months. I can tell you that Dr. Wong does really exceptional work. He pays a lot of attention to detail and takes pride in every case. I am sure you will be very pleased when it is all said and done.
  6. It is relatively common to see changes in a person's hair texture as well as some of the other hair characteristics as they age. There are several reasons why this can occur, including alterations in the glandular function and changes in the patients diet and overall health. Not to mention the many unknown factors that probably effect a patients hair quality.
  7. You should have no problem being completely healed within 10 days. I recommend Graftcyte spray which is a saline spray with Copper Peptide every 20-30 minutes. The process of getting the healing wounds slighty wet and then drying on a rotating basis allows the scabs to form quickly. The sooner scabs form the sooner they fall off. I also recommend to my patients to apply ocean or sea water 2-3 times per day for the first 3 days post-op. you are not going to hurt yourself with the saline spray. Antimicrobial solutions are not necessary.
  8. 35 year old patient that just wanted a more solid hairline. Was not happy with the receding corners and had a very realistic expectation about his results.
  9. Not sure how far Calgary is, but Dr. John Gillespsie is there and is an excellent hair restoration physician. I have also known Dr. Vance Elliot for many years. He also is a very caring physician who takes a lot of pride in his work. They both get great results on a regular basis.
  10. There are several really good clinics in Florida. However, not many choices in the Jacksonville area. You should visit the few that are local and consider doing some on line consultations or spend a day traveling to some other clinics in the south Florida area. Due your due diligence. Remember an educated decision is usually a better decision.
  11. You really need to go with who you feel is going to do the best job. Follow your gut. You would be better off waiting a little longer to save the money and go with your first choice, than choosing the doctor based only on the cheapest price. By the way I am friends with both Dr. Shapiro and Dr. Mejia and they both do really nice work.
  12. With some of the newer donor closure techniques it is often difficult to even find the scar from a hair transplant procedure. In my expereince the two-layer with or without trichophytic are producing the smallest scars.
  13. At 2 weeks you should be ok. The follicles are safely healed below the surface. Just make sure you are lying on something soft so there will be minimal compression on the grafted area.
  14. I only recommend scalp exercises on patients who have tight scalps or patients who have had prior hair transplant surgery and I am planning on removing the previous HT scar. As you witnessed yourself these exercises can loosen up the scalp tissue allowing the doctor to remove more donor tissue and hopefully be able to close the wound under minimal tension.
  15. Even if you are transplanting to a different recipient area I recommend waiting at least six months for the donor area to heal properly. Another reason not to transplant the same area to soon is that you would not want to make a recipient incision right on the scalp above a previously placed graft that has not yet exited the scalp. This could potentially damage a follicle defeating the purpose of the transplant.
  16. I agree that you will need to wait 12-14 months to have your final result of your procedure. There is no point on making a final opinion on a preliminary result. The crown is a big area and the grafts tend to fan out away from each other making it more difficult to give the appearence of full coverage.
  17. It is still an ongoing debate as to the ability of the laser to penetrate normal tissue and have any real effects on the follicles. I do not know of any studies that show how well the laser can penetrate thru scar tissue, but would not be suprised if it did not have much of an effect on follicles transplanted into scars. It probably has a better chance of reducing the formation of scar tissue in the immediate post-op period.
  18. I recommend to my patients that they have their hair coloring done at least 1 week prior to the procedure, and wait at least 3-4 weeks after the surgery before coloring again. It is an expensive procedure. It is better to be on the safe side.
  19. The type of procedure you are having and the way your skin heals will really determine how short you will be able to cut your hair in the donor area. I usually tell patients to be propared to keep the hair a little longer in the donor area, but in return you will have more hair in the areas you are thinning or balding in. Like most things in life there is a give and take situation with hair transplantation. I admit that often I have patients that it is very hard to find the scar in the donor area even after a strip procedure, but I also tell my patients not to count on that being the result in their case.
  20. There are several very good hair restoration physicians in Europe, S. America, and many other countries. There is also number of excellent clinics in the United States especially here in South Florida. The recommended list of physicians is just a list, and does not mean that any doctor that is not on the list doed not get good results. Do your research and due diligence and narrow it down to a few and then do some more research. At some point you will need to follow your gut feeling and the recommendation of other patients. With 2 weeks off that should be plenty of time for complete healing to occur whether you have FUT or FUE. You would want to schedule the procedure at the beginning of your vacation to allow as many days as possible to recover.
  21. Are you only considering clinics in europe? I am not sure where you are getting your information from, but from my experience you can get larger graft counts at a lower cost per graft using FUT versus FUE.
  22. Some of the hairs that fall out due to shock will grow back just before or at the same time as the transplanted hairs (3-5 months). In cases where there are a lot of very weak, thin, dying hairs in the recipient area some of the shocked hairs will be lost permanantly. There is no current way to determine which patients will get shock loss and of those who do, how much is permanant loss versus temporary loss.
  23. This is a 42 year lod patient who came in for follow up 14 months after procedure. He was very pleased with the results.
  24. Genetic hair loss can come fro either side of the family. One or the other or a combination of both. It can even skip a generation. Unfortunetly, there is no current way to determine exactly which hair genes a patient has inherited from his/her parents. If I could just figure that out a way to see into the patients future I probably would be able to retire soon.
