  1. Thank you for the replies, and for your input Dr. Meija.
  2. Thank you Dr. Mejia. The thing is that its good, I'm happy but I feel like with just a little more the result could be really good. Would a second procedure of around 2k grafts generally be considered conservative? Would that likely leave some in reserve for future hair loss? Should I consider fue? I wonder also whether I should wait because of the prospect of future hairloss (even at 51 yrs old)?
  3. Thank you for the replies. Although I was happy with the doctor, I am leaning toward a different doctor for round 2, if I do it. One consideration is I would like to avoid shaving again as I had alot of down time from work where I can not where a hat. The first doc did a tri-closure. I believe my scalp was tight to begin with, at least that's what one doctor (Dr Berstein) told me when I had a consultation with him. Maybe the scar was good because it was a relatively small strip. There was also no shockloss in the donor area. I guess I wondering if I'm being overly worried, as the result was relatively good the first time, or on the other hand, should I leave well enough alone. I mean I suppose even though I'm 51, my hairloss will progress (although it has been stable for a number of years) and maybe I should wait because of that alone?
  4. Hi everyone. Well here's my situation. I had a 2000 graft HT (to front 1/3) with a top doc here about one year ago, and I'm happy overall with the results. It's not as dense as I would like and the hairline could be a little lower, but I look and feel better and younger. Most importantly the result is very natural. I am 51 years old, no meds (which I can not tolerate bc of libido sides), hairloss stabilized for 5 years +. My vertex and crown are thin and I would like to improve my hairline. My dilemma is that the first surgery produced a more or less undetectable donor scar and I'm afraid if I go for a second that I would need to have another strip (I guess I would need another 2-3k grafts) and that I may not be so lucky next time with the donor scar or overall results. I almost feel (when I read about people who regret their HT because of donor scar issues or bad results) that I have the decision to make all over again. Maybe I just got lucky the first time and should be happy with what I have and not take a chance. On the other hand, maybe it could be a lot better with one more procedure and I would have similiar or better results. What would you do? Thanks.
  5. I had my first HT in 1/09 at age 50. My hair was/is still mostly light brown, but more gray in the usual areas, especially donor, sideburns, temple points, beard and yes, the gray hairs come up gray in the recepient area, at least so far. (i'm just glad they came up) They're mixed in pretty well, and can be dyed of course. Overall, looks much better notwithstanding.
  6. so its all in their minds? the folks over at propecia.help, etc. are just imagining these things?
  7. I see your point Spex. It just struck me that way at the time. I am at ~ 9 mos. Very nice improvement from 6 mos and hoping for more. Hair is starting to soften. It was a bit wiry for a while. The donor scar is impossible to find (at least I can't find it although I wear my hair fairly long). I had 2100 in front 1/3. Dr. F and his staff were excellent even without the towels and perfume. Anyway, I do think its very good to take the criticism, and the praise, with the same grace. I have been meaening to start a weblog with pics. MAybe soon.
  8. A bit on the defensive side. So she liked Dr. D's fluffy towels and music better, so what? I'm a Dr. F patient myself, and after a few recent threads, I hope I don't have a complaint because I'd be afraid that I would have to take some heat for it. Thankfully I'm happy with my results. Anyway, no need to be so defensive. You can't please everybody all the time. I would accept that more graciously. It reflects more better.
  9. lasers can be used to effectively herd kitty cats, at least my cat will follow one anywhere (promotional link removed)
  10. When penicillin first came out it wasn't peer reviewed either for a while I'd venture to say. Doesn't innovation necessarily come before peer review? And peer review, isn't that some kind of a stodgy self aggrandizing myth propogated by pointy headed theoreticians anyway? Where were Einstein and Galileo's peers when they were recreating their disciplines?
  11. Im 50. Started losing alot of hair at ~ 25 and I was devastated. I was shedding like crazy and I had friends by this time that had lost a sigificant amount of hair, so I thought I was going bald overnight. But it slowed, now when I look at pictures from 25 - 40, I realize I had a shit load of hair and would go back in a second. At about mid 40s my temples had noticably receded and it was a dramatic effect. Before that it was just the crown thinning. I tried alot of things something literally stop the hair loss around 47, no more shedding, not a hair. Last Jan I got a HT with feller in the frontal third. So far seems like things are going well with that. What I would say is, in my experience its unpredictable and you need to fight every step, diet, health all play a role. I 50 now hoping for a reprieve. Anyway thats my story
