Senior Member HappyMan2021 Posted December 11, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted December 11, 2022 (edited) My crown is naturally a NW3-ish. I had 400 grafts implanted in the crown 2 years ago by Dr. Harris, and 700 grafts implanted 6 months ago by Dr. Mwamba. (Both of these surgeries primarily focused on other areas of the scalp, but that is irrelevant for this post) I am seeing Dr. Mwamba again in January - primarily for the 2nd round of a repair in the hairline and temples - but since I will be there I would like Dr. Mwamba to 100% fully fill in the crown, so that no signs of MPB are evident at all. Two questions: 1) How many grafts would you estimate I need for 100% filled-in crown coverage? 2) We all know crown growth is normally slower than other areas of the scalp such as the hairline. I'm curious to hear actual quantitative reference points for crown growth? Ex. Most people start having hairline grafts pop through and start growing around 4 months in, what month would you say crown growth really starts being evident? Below are my 6-month crown progress pics, perhaps they have a lot more growth to go? Not sure. Edited December 11, 2022 by HappyMan2021
Regular Member ray35 Posted December 11, 2022 Regular Member Share Posted December 11, 2022 From the looks of it not many at all... I mean like what, peppering in a couple hundred? That'd be my guess. That's at this stage though, I wonder what might be popping though that is not all that clear here at 6 months. Looking good I'd say... nice work!
Senior Member shiba1985 Posted December 11, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted December 11, 2022 My eyes first went to the pics and I was gonna say you don’t need any in the crown. Then I saw ur post it says u allready had work done. It looks good. You would need Not even 100 grafts
Regular Member WhereIsMyMind Posted December 11, 2022 Regular Member Share Posted December 11, 2022 (edited) Honestly, if we are going for minimum possible, and if the biggest donor grafts are picked, it shouldnt be much more than 300. If you want like 100% fail proof maybe around 800 would be pretty guaranteed to cover densely, but in my opinion it's a bit of a waste on an area that most people wont ever even notice it. Regarding crown growth: indeed, it is always slower, I wouldn't go for it until at least 10 months went by. Regular Member NikosHair Posted December 11, 2022 Regular Member Share Posted December 11, 2022 10 second dab of concealer to blend the scalp hair contrast (if it bothers you that much). Otherwise not worth risk of collateral damage.
Valued Contributor Gatsby Posted December 12, 2022 Valued Contributor Share Posted December 12, 2022 Crown growth (like all post op growth) is an individual thing and can take up to 18 months. I wouldn't touch your crown. You risk having an island of hair in the crown should you have a shed or an acceleration of MPB. The best consensus is to work from front to back after trying to stabilize any loss with meds. Senior Member mrmane85 Posted December 12, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted December 12, 2022 Your current crown is what I see on many people who have a similar crown swirl pattern and they have never lost a hair in their life. So as others have said, I wouldn't use a single graft, it's great as is.
