Regular Member kensington Posted November 17, 2015 Regular Member Share Posted November 17, 2015 Is it normal for the Doctor's assistant/support to put in alot of the FUE hairs if getting over a 1,000 transplant? I would assume that is a lot of manual labor and the Doctor doesn't do all the 1,000 or more transplants. Does the Doctor stay in the area and provide guidance and oversee the entire manual labor? Senior Member MrGio-WHTCClinic Posted November 18, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted November 18, 2015 Our surgeon does most of the physically labor in the process. We do the procedure in one concerted effort. The surgeon controls the phases of the entire process. The surgeon physically removes the grafts and implants some of the grafts. The grafts are placed by the assistants, but the doctor performs the incisions for the placement of grafts into the recipient zone. The entire process is done under the quality assurance of the surgeon. This is not the case at every clinic. My opinions are my own. I am one representative of MyWHTC Clinic's European branch. Hi Kensington, Different HT Clinics have different protocols. At Darling Buds India (Dr. Bhatti) Clinic, 85% of the work is done by Dr Bhatti himself (100% counseling , 100% anesthesia administration, 100% harvesting, 100% slit making). Our Technicians (RN's with years of HT experience) place the grafts into the slits under the supervision of Dr. Bhatti (he keeps checking in). Dr. Bhatti consistently performs FUE procedures of around 3000 grafts in one sitting. Regular Member kensington Posted November 18, 2015 Author Regular Member Share Posted November 18, 2015 It sounds like the questions I need to ask are: 1 -who does the anesthesia 2 -harvesting from donor 3 - slit making in recipient 4 - implants of grafts in recipient 5 - is HT the Doctor's full time work or do they do other plastic surgery Please let me know of other questions to ask because I am going to schedule appointments with 2 Doctors very soon. Thanks Hi Kensington, Those sound like relevant questions to me. I suggest you add: "who does the counseling" to your list. In addition to this, I would recommend reaching out to the past patients of the HT Surgeons to get their feedback. Besides this, research as much as possible. The more you know, the better chances you will have of making an informed decision. I wish you all the best. Senior Member esrec Posted November 19, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted November 19, 2015 Ask every doctor you speak with who they would have operate on them if it was their head. The name(s) that come out on top should lead you in the right direction.
Senior Member Sean Posted November 19, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted November 19, 2015 It is great seeing such input from doctors. Many folks do not know this until the day of surgery, so it is good to understand surgical protocols prior to so you know what you are paying for. Senior Member Dr Tejinder Bhatti Posted November 21, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted November 21, 2015 I fully believe in the patient/doctor relationship. In India it is very difficult to find hair restoration clinics that have much direct involvement by the doctor in even the execution of graft extraction, much less the consultations. Without a solid patient/doctor relationship established from the initial counceling it can be difficult to establish a proper degree of trust. It is not just the patient that must develop a trust for the doctor, the doctor must develop a trust in the patient; is the patient reasonable in his expectations? Is the patient aware of all aspects of the procedure? Are all of the patient's questions answered? I do not wish for patients to come in to the procedure with questions that should have been addressed during a counseling session which is why I prefer to do them myself. Senior Member JohnCasper Posted November 25, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted November 25, 2015 I've had two surgeries with Dr. Vories, 5,125 grafts in 2012 and 2,000 more this past January, and he extracted every graft and his technician then prepared them for implantation. Dr. Vories then implanted 100% of the grafts himself. This is the typical procedure and process at Carolina Hair Surgery. I am an online representative for Carolina Hair Surgery & Dr. Mike Vories (Recommended on the Hair Transplant Network). Regular Member whoknows01 Posted November 27, 2015 Regular Member Share Posted November 27, 2015 I had my fue with Dr. Wesley in New York, it was a little over 2100 grafts to the frontal third. He did the initial consult with me for close to an hour, he extracted every graft, made all the recipient sites, and helped with the implantation along with 2 other technicians. I just hit the 4 month post op mark and things are looking good.

Thanks The local injections are traded among the doctor and assistants. There is a crew of assistants with the lead taken by the most experienced. The doctor, who is the medical director will take the donor hair grafts. This is the most important and critical part of the procedure. The doctor will perform the incision sites within the recipient areas. The transfer of the grafts in the recipient is overseen and partly done by the doctor. The assistants and the doctor share a given amount of time to complete this work. During this time, the procedure is phased because, in our protocol, we limit the amount of time the grafts are out of the scalp or without blood supply. Hair transplant specialists and hair transplant doctors should be exclusively dedicated to hair transplant surgery. My opinions are my own. I am one representative of MyWHTC Clinic's European branch. Senior Member MrGio-WHTCClinic Posted December 13, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted December 13, 2015 When Dr. Patrick Mwamba extracts the grafts, we don't leave them out of the body for a long period of time. We insert them into the recipient sites right after. This occurs in a matter of minutes. My opinions are my own. I am one representative of MyWHTC Clinic's European branch.
