Hi guys , looking into FUE to fill a small area on my scalp and possibly strengthen the hairline . Has anybody on here heard of Dr De Reys from Belgium ? , i know he was the main guy at Prohairclinic a few years back and went on to set up his own surgery .

Most reports and pictures i can find online seem decent yet there's not loads about.

Any views welcome :)

He appears to be a decent ethical doctor. Checkout JohnnyDrama's write up of his visit to his Clinic and William38's result.

The only negatives I recall were a couple of guys complaing about pain during the procedure. Probably just isolated incidents. Everyone's comfort level is different.

4,312 FUT grafts (7,676 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2013

1,145 FUE grafts (3,152 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2018

763 FUE grafts (2,094 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - January 2020

Proscar 1.25mg every 3rd day

Hey buddy, Dr De Reys is really good. I had a great result from him and I'm still writing my journal. Here it is:

http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/171507-7350-grafts-850-body-hair-dr-villnow-dr-de-reys.html

@1978matt Yeah, he definitely is a good, ethical doc. Him and his rep, Nick from the UK hair-transplant-doctor website have really looked after me. Nick's amazing at checking up on how things are going and explaining stuff and Rudi has defeinitely got some proper ethics going on. If he doesnt think its right, then he doesnt do it. It's not just about money which is what made me go to him in the first place (that and his results! :D )

I didn't have any troublw with pain during my op though surgery's surgery so its never going to be, like, enjoyable lol!. It does go on a long time but I guess that's the price you pay for having a surgeon do all the work personally rather than a team of technicians

I had a procedure with him

I am 7 months post op and I have to say not good at this stage... of course I will give him the benefit of doubt until the 12 month mark but what's got me really worried is the fact that there now seems to be quite few complaints about this doctor mostly on German forums.. poor yield and sparse placement of graphs seem to be the big issue and i have to say mine is looking very sparse for 7 months so its not very encouraging when you read these bad reviews but like I said I will give him the benefit of doubt until 12 months.

And the pain I experienced with this doctor was shocking..... as did a few others that's on this forum..

The other thing that really annoyed me about him was the hair line.. we agreed the hair line after many attempts at drawing it on and then he done one side to high, that really pissed me off because i felt he just wasn't listening to what i said and just wanted to do it his own way..I asked him to fix it and he did but I could see he was getting annoyed with me but its my hair right, I have to live with it..I just got the impression he could not be arsed and just wanted to get the job done a quick as possible. and get me out of there.

This doctor is cheaper than most but please do some in depth research and find out all you can before you decide.

Hope this helps someone..

Rob

Hey Rob, couldn't disagree with you more. And the photos on my journal are the proof. The growth is incredible!! Sounds to me like you and him just didn't get on. I got on with him fine, maybe one of you had a bad day

I know what you mean aout the German forums, I looked there too when I was researching docs and that's why I chose Dr De Reys. If you look reall close, you'll see all those 'complaints' are from one single guy, some nutter on the German forum who spends his life on the forum talking bs.

Anyway, rEckon youd best wait and see what happens. Seven months is way too early to know. My result showed after a year and you can see that in my journal, month for month. Patience, my friend!

Cheers,

Will

You can disagree all you like mate..

I am entitled to offer my own experiences to anyone seeking information on Dr De reys..

There are guys on this forum that have experienced a lot of pain with Dr de reys and you my friend are the in the minority..

The German forums has got quite a few complaints starting to emerge with patients complaining about poor density especially around the front hairline/temples resulting in considerable gaps in the hair which is unacceptable IMO....

Of course I will allow the full 12 months before judging my results..even if my results are very good I will still write a full and frank review of my experience good and bad...

You are very clearly absolutely over the moon with your results from Both dr de reys and dr villue who also recommend each other and that is brilliant but people need more feedback from other experiences not just yours..

Dr De Reys is one of the best. Some really experienced posters like Mickey85 already campaigned for him to be a recommended surgeon on this forum.

what's going on with that, Mickey?

Dr De Reys is by far the most conservative surgeon in Belgium and Turkey. He doesn't dense pack norwood 3s with 3,000 grafts in the frontal third. He doesn't give norwood 2/3s a 7cm hairline etc. In fact, I think he turns down most people who are low norwood. Most people would see this as ethical but some would see it as being too reserved, too unaesthetic, too boring. Some people want a Brad Pitt hairline and super density. I vouched for his recommendation based on his skills and thought he offered the unique combination of very affordable, ethical, works only with his wife(trained nurse) and has been FUE exclusive for many years. I won't go into the recommendation did not occur but I will say it had nothing at all to do with his work or his work ethic. I won't say if De Reys declined or if the forum declined, out of fairness.

I still believe he would make a great addition to the forum but I really doubt it will ever happen to due one or two small but pivotal factors.

I think a doctor who is recommended on this forum should have consistently good results/feedback before consideration is given..

Rob

As do I, but no surgeon is infallible or free from bad results. Sometimes it is patient physiology, sometimes the surgeon is having a bad day and not concentrating 150%, sometimes the tech's are day dreaming etc. I'm not taking anything away from your experience as I was not there and I have no reason not to believe you but no surgeon bats 100%.

I thought I would add my thoughts on this matter. I found the initial injections in my donor area and the creation of the hairline uncomfortable, but was given more anaesthetic when I complained of any discomfort and that did the trick - this only happened a few times during the procedure. I am now 10 months post operation and have experienced good growth. I am going back for another 2500 grafts in July to a fill in some other areas and add a bit more density to my crown. I will update my blog at 12 months.

I could not praise Dr De Reys highly enough for he treated me during the two days. At no point did I feel that he was rushing the surgery or that he was getting fed up. Quite the contrary, he and Gina could not do enough for me. For this, I am grateful.

Funnily enough Mickey85, I discussed the subject of recommendation with Dr De Reys, whilst in Belgium...

Dr de reys and his wife Gina treated me very well also and I have no complaints there..

Just to clarify,,I did not mean that he rushed my entire surgery or that he was fed up throughout the surgery because he did not rush it and was not fed up, the part where I thought he was getting frustrated and rushed it was when he I asked him to fix my hairline where I thought he went to high at one side..

I did require a lot of injections for pain, I lost count of how many.. nerve blocker also..

The crunching of them needles into your skull is not a pleasant experience no matter who you are but if you want hair on your head you just have to deal with it I suppose.

Have to chime in and say I agree with Rob and his points. Wish I'd gone to the States now. I had around 2100 grafts to the frontal third with Dr De Reys last year and I'm now around 15 months. Not good. I asked for density over coverage, but the grafts are spaced quite far apart and the hair itself is thick and wiry looking in the hairline. I also don't like the design of the hairline. He went for a very jagged approach on the right side and it looks weird grown out. Think he took this too far as I know an inconsistent hairline looks more natural or as nature intended. Mine doesn't. The follow-up correspondence with him has also been pitiful even though I've highlighted the procedure has made me depressed and unable to go out and socialise. You'll be dealing with Nick rather than the Dr. Been offered more grafts at a reduced rate, but doubt I'd go back.

He is cheap, but I imagine there's much better Doctors out there and it will cost you in the long run. I'm now looking at stateside docs for a repair and getting the job done properly. Glad there's more posts on Dr De Reys as there was little when I was looking around and what I did see, particularly from his time at Prohair, we're pretty good. Looks like he's actually less consistent.

Agree that he and Gina are very nice in person and don't hold anything personally against them apart from my result!

Threaduk, you have made my day mate.. finally someone with the balls willing to step forward and report a bad result.. well done..

Where do i start. The whole gagged hairline thing sucks... I made him fix my when i seen it in the mirror..

The correspondence sucks.. takes forever to get answers and at one point no they would not acknowledge that there was a problem..

Density is crap and i would be embarrassed to post pics on a public forum, private pm me if you want to discuss this further.

This is not a conspiracy but very real world results and I knew it was only a matter of time before more people came forward..

I would bet my house that this will not be the last complaint you will hear.

Its unfortunate because dr de reys is cheap and he has a good reputation from his time at prohair but i think since he left prohair his results has declined, most likely because the owner of prohair was trying very hard to build a good reputation and would not let him away with poor density/results, but in his own clinic he is free to place graphs as he pleases..

The good results have been well documented on this forum but you guys need to accept that there is bad results also.. no need to post more flattering reviews because i have heard them quite a few times already from the same individuals..

I'm sure there are more poor results out there Rob.

Yes, it's disappointing as I was expecting a good result with him. I would really warn against anyone thinking about this procedure anywhere. I did plenty research and planned it for over 2 years, but have still ended up with a poor result. My worry is compounded by other doctors not willing to help me because of the fear of damaging existing grafts.

This is a serious business. My job, life and relationships have all seriously suffered as a result of this so be sure what you're doing anyone thinking about it.

Very disappointed myself mate..

Admittedly I choose dr de reys because of price but i did lots of research and in the end i decided he was the right choice because of his experience.

I now know for sure that this was the wrong choice and more established clinics would not let this happen..

Just wish i had of spent a few thousand extra and got it done right.. sure there may be a possibility of problems with the established clinics but i know for a fact they would bend over backwards to make sure you get a good result, this alone is worth spending a few more grand...

Good luck with repair and hope you get a good result next time.

Yeah I'm now resigned to going to the States if anyone there will agree to help me. Pretty annoying that I now have to effectively put my life on hold again, fork out more money and travel further afield to get this sorted. Bit of a personal disaster really. Can't quite believe I'm worse off than when I started!

Good luck to you too and hope you get sorted.

Sorry to hear that Treaduk. I'm 10 months post op myself and can only imagine how going backwards must feel after such a long journey.

Have you consulted with other Belgian clinics or even the Turkish ones? Just curious as to why you think stateside seems to be your only option.

As you probably know if you've looked at my sig.....I've been to one of them and have had a very positive experience, and I've also visited other docs for consultations in Belgium and was highly impressed.

The customer service I had from my own clinic was also exceptionally good, I'd struggle to see how they could improve it such is the system they have in place.

Just an update for everyone.

The calibre of the hair has improved even in the last few days and I've been in touch with a couple of other clinics for their advice and opinions. They feel the work done could not have been better and what I probably need is a few more grafts to thicken things up. So I may have been unfairly harsh on my Dr.

What I would say is this does highlight the limitations of such a procedure even when done by some of the most highly skilled and trained. Anyone thinking about it go in with your eyes open and prepare for the long haul.

The way i see it and the way i see my own situation is more graphs in the first place and you would not need to thicken things up.. I think someone else made the point that Dr reys was the most conservative Dr in Europe when it come to estimating amount of graphs required and I would agree with this statement 100%. The problem with being too conservative is unhappy clients who think the density should be much better.

For example, I went for 3 consultations with 3 of the best known Fue specialists in Belgium and

Dr de reys estimated 800 graphs lower than any others.

The result of his low estimation = poor density.

Even if the calibre of the hair improves the large gaps between graphs will remain....
