Toha
10 months back I did a hair transplant that so far looks successful. During the same number of months I have used Performance Minoxidil 5% to give the transplanted hair a fresh start. Lately, lets say 2 months back I noticed lack of sexual interest and recently problem with the erection. The usual morning erection was gone and if I got an erection it disappeared after a few minutes. I had no idea why this was happening until by coincidence I came across this forum with several notices describing similar experiences. Immediately after having gained a possible cause of what is going on with my sexual appetite and performance I stopped using the Minoxidil treatment. Just a few days later my sexual appetite improved and my erection is back again. There is no doubt in my mind that Minoxidil treatment is causing negative sexual side effects. No more Minoxidil for me!

drone
Well rogaine does cause ed side effects. After 3 months of use I had 9 months ed after effects. After a month of gingko bilbo and wellman sport vitamins all is back to normal. The risk is too great. Avoid. Forums are littered with men with same issue. No smoke without fire. Hope this helps resolve for others.
bernie88
I had experienced similar sides Drone whilst on lipogaine and some generic minoxidil. Everything was going fine in the first two months. Alot of shedding which is normal from what I hear and evidence that the product is working. Then I began to suffer from ed, fogginess and noticed I had darker rings under my eyes. At first had no idea it was the minox as I wasn't aware that it could cause these effects, but then did my research and it seems it's a minority that suffer from it. I still can't believe it! I jumped of the treatment and within a few days my libido was back to it's best. My question is - Have you ever taken finasteride or even considered it due to our experience on minoxidil? I know the two drugs work differently so I'm eager to give it a go.
Senior Member Stuart01 Posted September 10, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted September 10, 2013 I personally have never seen any documentation stating that one of the side effect of minoxidil is ed. Senior Member TakingThePlunge Posted September 11, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted September 11, 2013 I've seen a number of guys complain of sexual sides from topical minoxidil. However, as Stuart already pointed out, ED is not a documented side effect of the drug. I think it's very important that anyone suffering from sexual dysfunction does not self-diagnose. There are many physical and mental conditions that can lead to erectile dysfunction. The best thing to do is consult with your physician for a complete physical. isracolo
If anyone is interested in the possible side effects of Rogaine, check out this link: ROGAINE EXTRA STRENGTH (FOR MEN): Side effects, ratings, and patient comments My personal experience is this: I first tried Minoxi 5% topical liquid at around age 25, and had a really itchy scalp. Decided to stop. Then tried Propecia for a year, my libido went way down, so I stopped. I then became insanely horny. Had 3 crazy years, but ended up being very thin on the top of the head. Then started using Rogaine Foam since this January. Have seen impressive results. But, my libido went way down. I have the hottest girlfriend I've ever had now, and sometimes it is hard getting it up. Just a few days off it and I already feel myself way more sexual (might be psychosomatic but it's true - I get an erection from girls on the street, something I forgot happens since I started using this spray). I have been using it every 2-3 days for 10 days now. My scalp now has a mineralish layer - the root of many hairs has a little "mineral" thing and it just falls off. I think this is the "turbo mode" of hairloss. Not sure what to do!
isracolo
By the way - I've been getting hair growing all over my body since I started use. On the back, especially the bottom, way hairier chest etc. Even in the ears, a bit even on top of them! This might just be because of my age, turning 30 etc, but it is freaking me out. Senior Member Spanker Posted September 15, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted September 15, 2013 I have never read or heard from any credible source that minoxidil effects libido or causes ed. I think a big thing to remember is that the same time that many people are experiencing hair loss, they are also experience natural hormonal changes and other effects of aging. So, as they begin to treat MPB, their bodies are also telling them that they are not 18 anymore. They are also dealing with the general emotional trauma that hair loss can cause, which can cause sexual side effects from emotional issues. How many times have we seen people come on the board that are basically suicidal from the impact of hair loss? Should we dismiss that the something so powerful can cause sexual side effects even without treatment of any kind? I think that there are a lot of scare tactics that go on with hair loss treatment. Especially with the notion that minoxidil causes sexual side effects. I hope that people do not read this and decide not to treat themselves. If you are having ED or sexual problems and are just on minoxidil, you should really see a primary care provider and look for the real reason that you are having sexual issues. Also, keep in mind that libido in men is not a constant. There are times that men are interested and times that they are not. No one needs a diagnosis on their wives or girlfriends when they are not in the mood. Try not to put pressure on yourselves about drive. It is perfectly normal for men to gain and lose interest in sex and it can be brought on by many many things from your job, to your kids acting up, to your parents being sick, etc. It seems unreasonable every time someone is not interested in their lady that they point to finasteride, minoxidil, etc, when millions of men deal with ED and libido problems that have never touched a MPB drug. fueonly
MINOXIDIL (active ingredient in rogaine) does in fact cause sexual side effects. LET ME EXPLAIN WHY: Minoxidil is a vascular dilator. During a normal erection, the tunica and base of penis is constricted in a way not to allow blood to flow out. Minoxidil causes blood not to be able to stay in penis because it dilates the base of penis. This results in impotence or temporary erectile dysfunction. SO YES, MINOXIDIL DOES CAUSE ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION. -Source : I am a Urologist with over 11 years of experience. Senior Member 1978matt Posted September 15, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted September 15, 2013 You can type pretty much any drug into Google with the words ED and you will find claims that it is a side effect. I even typed in Ibuprofen and found some! 4,312 FUT grafts (7,676 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2013 1,145 FUE grafts (3,152 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2018 763 FUE grafts (2,094 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - January 2020 Proscar 1.25mg every 3rd day
isracolo
Hmmm, spanker, great post. However, it doesn't explain why some former users claim that after stopping they regained their sexual drive. I know that without a doubt, Propecia did it to me. Completely different class of drug, I know, but I am saying this to emphasize that I noticed the difference. I also notice the different in the last 6 months. It might be unrelated - I did just turn 30. But, having stopped for about a week, I already felt different... the same girl got it up when she didn't before. I am not saying this is anything but a fluke, or even psychosomatic... I will give it a long run haul and see what happens. I am afraid of this, however.. I know that a month might mean 6 months of lost work as far as hair goes, perhaps irreversibly.

zizou
Yes, I can confirm that Rogaine causes diminished sexual desire and very weak erections. And I'm so glad I found the cause, I had to let everyone know. For a few weeks I had this problem and I was a little desperate. I eat healthy, exercise and don't take any medicine, except for Rogaine. I decided to let go Rogaine for a while, and after just 4 days, my erections returned to normal. If you experience any disfunction, give up for a couple of days and see the result.

Jager137
First off let me appologize for being new here and opening up an old thread. I figured better to just add my 2 cents here than start an entirely new thread. My feeling is that the sexual side effects caused by minoxidil may be related to collagen. There are studies around that show that minoxidil reduces collagen synthesis, thereby reducing the amount of collagen in the body. This is often thought to be why the side effects of minoxidil are increased wrinkles, dark circles under eyes and enlarged pores, as the skin has a great deal of collagen in it. The penis does as well, so perhaps this lack of collagen is making a full erection more difficult. I have been on minoxidil for about 9 years now and in retrospect, do not recall having "morning wood" since I started. I had feared this was due to age (Im 38 now), but perhaps minoxidil played a roll. A while back I took Collagen type 1&3 supplement and would wake up in the morning with morning wood for the first time since my 20s. I only used it for a few weeks, and when I stopped so did the morning wood. I realize this hardly scientific, but it is interesting and may be worth trying for some people. May even help with other minox related skin problems. I think Ill try it again and see if it helps. Edited September 22, 2014 by Jager137

Nahamasurfer
Yes, I believe it does. After 3 months I noticed the effects of ED. Also, I had angina like pains immediately following the doses. ED could be the result of the decrease in male hormones. Anyway, this is how it affected me - there is not question - how it affects others may be different. alex3035
Hello there. I am currently suffering from the sexual side effects of Rogaine Foam Extra Strength. I wanted to share my story and see if anybody out there could share their similar experiences as it would be very helpful to hear from other people that have been through something similar. I used three months worth of Rogaine Foam during a five-month period basically because I wasn't diligent about using it every day and would occasionally be forgetful. After two months I noticed my penis being smaller and softer when flaccid and lost both morning and daytime erections but didn't make the connection with the Rogaine. That seems strange now but I thought it might just be a phase I was going through (by the way I am 38 years old). After a month off the Rogaine while waiting for a new order to arrive I started to use the new order last week and it has had an instant impact on me. After four days of use I was unable to maintain a healthy erection with my partner for the first time in memory. The following day I went to the bathroom to use the Rogaine - and the penny finally dropped that perhaps this was what had been causing the problems. After then visiting various online forums such as this one it is fairly obvious the Rogaine has been causing the problems as my case is similar to so many others. In the three days since I stopped using Rogaine I haven't actually been able to gain an erection of any kind with or without manual stimulation. The doctor prescribed me Cialis and I took half a tablet last night. After taking that, this morning I was able to maintain a good erection fairly comfortably for around three hours. I take this to be a good sign - i.e. if I am able to respond to the Cialis and get an erection then clearly something down there is still working. But clearly it is a concern that I haven't been able to gain a natural erection of any kind for three days now. My penis - flaccid, obviously - had a cold and tingling sensation to it which comes and goes but is there most of the time. it appears I have had a fairly strong reaction to the Rogaine. I would like anybody out there that has had similar issues with it to share their thoughts as there are several things I am wondering about: 1. Should it be particularly worrying that I cannot get any sort of erection at all without Cialis? The erection with Cialis was pretty good but it's a bit perturbing to get nothing at all without; 2. Is time really the best healer in this case? I have read reports of these things taking anywhere from two weeks to eight or nine months to improve. 3. Is there anything that people out there did that they found helped their condition - i.e. taking natural supplements, drinking water, drinking green tea? I'm willing to be patient until this condition improves but obviously if there are natural treatments or dietary changes that have helped speed up the process I'd be very interested in hearing. Oh, and the doctor said it was probably a psychological problem and hadn't heard of Rogaine. Needless to say I'll be going back to see him next week and telling him what I've learned online All feedback welcome, thanks in advance - much appreciated
