hairtropolis
Hi guys. I'm super-new to this forum, but have been reading posts on it for a good few months now, so I decided to join to get advice. I'll be 27 this year and I'm from South Africa and had a minor transplant in my country last year to try and help with my thinning forelock and receding temples. I did it mainly due to convenience and thinking going overseas would be too much. I had 800 grafts via strip procedure. It helped add a bit of hair around the forelock but didn't really give any reasonable density (the clinic I went to only does 800 grafts at a time). So after MUCH research, I decided to go abroad when I have my next procedure (hopefully this year sometime). I've basically narrowed my choices to these: - Dr Rahal - Dr Feller - Hasson & Wong I'm looking for advice from you guys in who to go with. I know they are all excellent, but please see my pics and advise me if you can. I have a forelock that has hair but its thin and I'm worried if whether I'd lose most of my natural forelock hair due to shock loss or damage due to the transplanted grafts cutting into them. I basically want a dense hairline by adding to the hair I have in the forelock and filling in the temple areas better. I'm fine with a strip procedure as my donor area is pretty thick. How many grafts would you guys think I'd need? I contacted spex and he said around 1800 - 2000 grafts should be good. I'd also like to know if anybody knows the travel discount that Hasson & Wong offer for international patients. Thanks.
Senior Member 1978matt Posted January 29, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted January 29, 2013 Great shortlist! I would add Dr Konior in Chicago - stunning hairlines, just stunning.. 2000 sounds about right and who am I to disagree with Spex! I would try not to touch the forlock too much but that's the judgement call of the Dr. Not sure if you're on medications but that could help maintain that area for a good few years. 4,312 FUT grafts (7,676 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2013 1,145 FUE grafts (3,152 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2018 763 FUE grafts (2,094 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - January 2020 Proscar 1.25mg every 3rd day
hairtropolis
Thanks 1978matt. Anyone else with some good advice? Oh and does anyone know what I require in terms of visa and things if coming to New York or to Canada? Or any hidden costs/taxes on these procedures? Thanks again. hairtropolis
Hi guys. Anyone know how to get in touch with Dr Rahal? I emailed matt and he initially helped me but hasn't come back to me in a few days now. I already got quotes from Dr Feller and Dr Hasson, but I can't seem to get a hold of matt from Rahal Hair Tranplants. Anyone know an alternate email I can use? The Rahal website has no "contact us" page, just the schedule an appointment page.

hairtropolis
Cant decide, you are a star!!! After sending a mail to that address Matt found me again lol. He gave me an excellent breakdown and quote. So guys, I need your help. I think I'm set on either Dr Rahal or Dr Hasson. Dr Hasson's price is abit more and Dr Rahal offered a discount that's double that of Hasson & Wong ($800). I'm leaning towards Dr Rahal due to the fact that cost is a factor for me, I live in South Africa and when converting to Canadian dollars it's a big difference!!! I know they are both top notch doctor's so it's not like either one is a bad choice. I'd like to know, do you guys think Dr Rahal is a good choice for a dense hairline? I'm having +-2000 FUT grafts done. I'm not looking for a school-boy hairline, I just want density in the frontal area and temples. Please share your thoughts. Thanks guys. Regular Member Bronte Posted January 31, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted January 31, 2013 I chose Rahal because his hairlines are outstanding and he is a true gentleman of this industry. Dr Hasson is also a legend so its a toss of the coin.

hairtropolis
Bronte, can you tell me how much your accommodation is per night? I'm assuming you will be staying at Dr Rahal's guesthouse? I'm trying to get pricing on everything. Also, did you need a visa or any extra papers?

Regular Member BoomerSooner Posted January 31, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted January 31, 2013 Both of those guys are great choices. I recently had one done with Dr Wong, but there were also patients there that I talked to that were very happy about have Dr. Hasson. It would be hard to find a better staff than H&W, but thats my opinion of course! Senior Member StaggerLee123 Posted January 31, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted January 31, 2013 You have to add SMG to that list. They produce some of the most natural looking hairlines out there.
Senior Member TommyLucchese Posted January 31, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted January 31, 2013 It's like asking, who would you rather have in their prime - Messi, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho or Henry. There's been some amazing surgeons listed, I suppose it comes down to who gives you the best feeling when you speak to them or who produces results that you'd most desire. 2,000 grafts FUT Dr. Feller, July 27th 2012. 23 years old at the time. Excellent result. Need crown sorted eventually but concealer works well for now. Propecia and minoxidil since 2010. Fine for 8 years - bad sides after switching to Aindeem in 2018. Switched to topical fin/minox combo from Minoxidil Max in October 2020, along with dermarolling 1x a week. Senior Member orlhair1 Posted February 1, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted February 1, 2013 All the clinics in this string do great work. Consult with all and decide which you feel best about. You are doing the right thing by researching and choosing among the best. I can personally vouch for SMG. Good luck with your decision. Senior Member chrisdav Posted February 1, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted February 1, 2013 All the surgeons mentioned do great work. It is purely subjective. 2 poor unsatisfactory hair transplants performed in the UK. Based on vast research and meeting patients, I travelled to see Dr Feller in New York to get repaired. Senior Member Spanker Posted February 1, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted February 1, 2013 All 3 do good work. I agree. I can vouch for Dr. Konior as well, my case was not a great deal different than yours. Chicago may be cheaper to fly in to also, not sure. I am an online representative for Dr. Raymond Konior who is an elite member of the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians. hairtropolis
Hi guys. Really need some help. I'm set on going with Dr Rahal and Matt has helped me soooo much thus far. The problem is my visa. Do I have to buy my airline tickets first before applying for the visa? What happens if for some reason the visa is denied, then I would be stuck with tickets and can't use them. I'm super-new to all this, I only got my passport last month in fact. Any help on anyone who applied for a visa before please!!!
Senior Member Jotronic Posted March 12, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted March 12, 2013 Get your Visa first, then get your tickets. That way you'll avoid the issue all together.
