Are people getting bald younger?

Somebody made a comment on a youtube video, and it got me thinking.

It was something along the lines of "his grandfather started balding in his 40s, then his son in his 30s, and now he is balding in his 20s. Kids will start balding in their teens or younger"

Is there much or any truth in this? Kind of puts a negative slant on my already down mood today :/

I really don't think people are losing their hair any earlier today than in previous generations, though it does vary from person to person. For instance, my great grandfather was completely bald by the time he was 18 years old.

But try not to be down. Hair loss can be tough, but a full head of hair doesn't make the man. Confidence and a good attitude does :-).

Best wishes,

Bill

Oh, I'm not quite bald yet, but as for when and how much, I really don't know...

I'm just taking the right precautions and preparations for when I eventually do get my first HT.

But if there was truth behind that whole 'getting balder younger' statement, then I would probably expect it sooner than later :/ Anybody else have any info on this?

My mum noticed I was receding ( very very slightly) when I was 15. Bad luck eh? Thank god for the meds, and lets hope I can be thanking Dr Feller for a great hairline in a few months!

2,000 grafts FUT Dr. Feller, July 27th 2012. 23 years old at the time. Excellent result. Need crown sorted eventually but concealer works well for now.

Propecia and minoxidil since 2010. Fine for 8 years - bad sides after switching to Aindeem in 2018.

Switched to topical fin/minox combo from Minoxidil Max in October 2020, along with dermarolling 1x a week.

I started balding at 21. My dad is now 57 and still has a full head of hair. Bastard. In fact, both of my grandpa's are in their 80's and have more "native" hair now than I did at 26. The mystery of genetics.

i wonder if all the hormones and stuff in the foods/meats we eat today could have any effect on men balding earlier...if that is in fact true that we bald earlier?

I was thinking this as I read the posts. Not sure, but its and interesting hypothesis.

I am the opposite. M grandfather was balder faster, then my dad, and at my age, I am tracking better than my father did.

More and younger people disposed to balding should start to appear about 10-15 years from now, when the first generation of kids born to Propecia-Dads mature. Just think, all those bald guys who kept punching in the competitive mating pool for longer thanks to meds, getting more confidence in life, more money, more girls and making more DHT vulnerable male babies!

What an optimistic forecast! :)

I would say that is a safe bet. It's been stated by Dr. Rassman that before WW2 when the Japanese hadn't adopted some of our Western dieting habits that balding was very rare there. After WW2 and having our troops teach them our eating habits, balding in men became much more common. Also, we have a LOT more processed meats and hormone laden meat and milk than we did back then.

Finasteride 1.25 mg. daily

Avodart 0.5 mg. daily

Spironolactone 50 mg twice daily

5 mg. oral Minoxidil twice daily

Biotin 1000 mcg daily

Multi Vitamin daily

Damn, with all the stuff you put in your hair are you like a negative NW1? :D
