Sphex Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 I've been looking on this site for a while now at both doctors and user reviews. It's kinda hard to search, whether it's just me or this site, so I figured I'd ask directly. I'm 25 and need a HT badly. I live in SW FL, so anything around that area would be best. I know I am gonna have to drive at least 3 hours though. First I thought about Dr. Shapiro in Miami, looked him up here and people really seem to dislike him and their results. Then I thought about Dr. Bauman in Boca Raton, people here also seem to dislike him and their results. Now I was thinking about Dr. Hirsch in Sarasota, but there are little to no reviews on him. I was wondering about him or any of the other doctors in FL. I just want some reviews or insight on some of these FL HT doctors, so I don't have to waste my time driving there, or possible spending a ton of money with no results, or a screwed up procedure. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
Senior Member dingdong12 Posted March 11, 2012 Senior Member Posted March 11, 2012 if your going to drive 3 hours couldnt you hop on a plane and get a top doctor recommended here , that would be my advice ;-)
Senior Member Dutch Posted March 11, 2012 Senior Member Posted March 11, 2012 They say don't let distance be a deciding factor for a HT. That seems so true in your case. Can't expect a quality surgeon to be on your door step. I know someone from work who wants a top surgeon to be 30 mins away from his house or he won't do it. Do yourself a favour & board a plane or drive further if you have to. I flew 5 thousand miles! Good luck. http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=2329
Sphex Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) if your going to drive 3 hours couldnt you hop on a plane and get a top doctor recommended here , that would be my advice ;-) I'd rather not get on a plane, as that will add more expense than driving which will only be 2 tanks of gas in total. Not to mention if I need to go back in a hurry for some reason, a flight would take a few days to book and coordinate, while a car ride is simpler for me. I'd rather find some one in FL. I see what your saying though. I just wanted advise on FL doctors as that is where I am and that is where I plan to go. Thank you though Edited March 11, 2012 by Sphex

sabercat Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Can someone recommend a surgeon in Colorado or Missouri. I am in each state 50/50. I fly enough so please don't recommend I fly somewhere - LOL no offense. Also what is a good price for a good doctor? Thanks very much.
Senior Member chrisdav Posted March 12, 2012 Senior Member Posted March 12, 2012 Dr Charles is good in Florida. 2 poor unsatisfactory hair transplants performed in the UK. Based on vast research and meeting patients, I travelled to see Dr Feller in New York to get repaired.
Senior Member orlhair1 Posted March 12, 2012 Senior Member Posted March 12, 2012 Dr Charles is good in Florida. I agree.....I had a consult with him and was very impressed. I dont know much about this doctor other than he's recommended on this site... I don't recall a lot of post or pics or former patient posting about him either. However, he is recommended on this site which gives him instant credibility. He's located in Colorado. James A. Harris, MD, FACS Hair Transplant Surgeon in Greenwood Village, Colorado Newhairplease!! Sphex Posted March 12, 2012 Author Posted March 12, 2012 Thanks for the responses. I am definitely considering Dr. Charles now. I searched here and have seen some stellar reviews. I'll probably go in April, as that is when I will have time off from work, and will try to share the whole experience or as much as I can.
Sphex Posted March 12, 2012 Author Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) SpHex, ( nice name , similar to someone else i know...) Dr Charles. Job done  he is the man:) Best SPEX Thanks. By the way the name Sphex is off of my mouse pad. Razer Sphex. I couldn't think of a name , so I used the first thing I saw. It was either that or Cooler Master (my computer case) lol Edited March 12, 2012 by Sphex
Senior Member spreadlocks Posted March 13, 2012 Senior Member Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) This is not aimed at you specifically Sphex as luckily you have a great local doc But I do not undertand the mindset of someone who thinks “I’m willing to spend up to 10K” “I’m willing to spend 4 – 8 months with a huge shaven bald patch on my head” “I’m willing to give up exercise, drinking and pretty much socialising for a month or two” “I’m willing to put myself through emotional turmoil” “I’m willing to risk having a no guarantee operation that if goes wrong can leave me scarred, depleted of precious grafts and looking 1000x worse than if I was bald” “I’m willing to take at least 2 weeks of my precious holiday from work” To potentially be able to cosmetically improve the look of my hair (This is fine and understandable) However “I am definitely not willing to spend an extra couple of hundred dollars and a few hours on a flight to at least guarantee myself the best possible chance of success” I can only imagine that someone who says this does not fully understand the implications of what they are getting into. Good luck with the surgery if you decide to go ahead though mate. Edited March 13, 2012 by spreadlocks
Senior Member Shampoo Posted March 13, 2012 Senior Member Posted March 13, 2012 However, “I am definitely not willing to spend an extra couple of hundred dollars and a few hours on a flight to at least guarantee myself the best possible chance of success”I can only imagine that someone who says this does not fully understand the implications of what they are getting into. I agree, but it's natural for someone when they begin looking into this to automatically think "local" only. I did the exact same thing. But once you see that you really only "get up to bat" once or twice in your life for this event, you realize that travel and a couple nights at a hotel is pretty inconsequential in the "big picture" of getting the results you will live with for decades. It's funny people will hop on a plane without a 2nd thought for a vacation to sit on a beach drinking pina coladas, but think it's a big deal to hop on a plane to get the best hair transplant surgeons and results that will last a lifetime. Sphex Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 Yea I realize that I was doing that in the beginning thinking I could get someone much closer to me. The more I talk with people here, the more it makes me say forget about convenience. Get the best doctor I can reasonably get. This way I know I did my best, and not have to wonder what if I went here or there.
Senior Member Shampoo Posted March 13, 2012 Senior Member Posted March 13, 2012 Sphex Be sure and watch as many of these videos as you can so that you see the best doctors as well as learn something from each one. Back2my20s Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Sphex I had a strip HT done by Dr.Hirsch on 3/1/12 and while its WAY too soon to get you results I can tell you about my experience from pre-op to today if you are still considering him. One of the main things that has really impressed me is that I have his cell number and we have texted often even on weekends & evening when I had questions. Not sure he would appreciate me saying that but it has brought comfort during this healing process. Let me know.
