Consultation:
May 1 2012 at 11:30am I met with Dr. Charles. I had a thread here about a month ago looking for a HT in FL and Dr. Charles was recommended. I drove 3 hours and met with him. The first time we met he was very nice, and gave me a lot of information. We met for over an hour. He showed me what he wanted to do, pointed out temparel recession which I had not noticed, and showed me his instruments and procedure photos. He recommenced 1800 to 2000 grafts for the hairline and temperal areas. I had thinning in my crown area which I've had for 6 years now. Dr. Charles said he would do the crown as well, but was more concerned with the hairline as the priority. 1000 grafts were recommened for the crown.
Procedure:
May 10 2012 at 9:30am I had my procedure. I took my father with me so I would have someone to drive me home. First pictures were taken. We both met with Dr. Charles and he reviewed with me what we had discussed on May 1. He then gave me my first antibiotic and 3 Valium pills to clam me down. He had offered to inject me and completely sedate me, but I felt I didn't need it. He then injected my hairline and the back of my head with anesthetic. They then offered me a movie list and wanted me to pick two movies to watch. At the time the Discovery channel was on with a marathon of Penn and Teller Tell A Lie, so I watched that the entire time. Dr. Charles and his staff were listening to it and commenting on it with me. It was nice to be talked to and we joked around a bit as there are some pretty crazy things on that show, like eating roadkill and swearing to relieve pain, which I was encouraged to do. There was no pain in this procedure I can assure you that, and with the Valium in me I had no thoughts in my mind other than the TV show. We broke for lunch around 1:00pm they gave me a menu from a nearby restaurant and they got me a chicken wrap. My dad came in to talk with me a bit and to check on me. He was outside in the surrounding area most of the time in stores and stuff, he has a bit of a medical phobia and I told him it was ok for him not to be in the office if he did not want to. Probably 15 minutes later they started on me again. They gave me more anesthetic in my hairline and temperal area and finished at about 4:00pm They cleaned my entire head took some more pictures and we sat down with Dr. Charles. He gave me antibiotics, painkiller, sprays to keep my hair clean, and all the instructions. He also took my number and gave me his personal cell number. He even walked us out to our car. Overall it was a great experience and anyone nervous about a procedure should talk to him. He really put me at ease and treated me like I was the most important person there, even when I had not committed to the procedure yet.
Overall 2750 grafts, not sure of the breakdown of hairline/crown/temperal.
Forgive the crappy bathroom pics, I took them when I got home.
Also I didn't take crown pics, they brushed my hair back and I'm not gonna touch my head until Saturday when I'm allowed my first wash.
