I'm sorry but I just don't trust any medical procedure done in Mexico. It's too risky.

Finasteride 1.25 mg. daily

Avodart 0.5 mg. daily

Spironolactone 50 mg twice daily

5 mg. oral Minoxidil twice daily

Biotin 1000 mcg daily

Multi Vitamin daily

Damn, with all the stuff you put in your hair are you like a negative NW1? :D

hi what did they quote you? im planning on going there in june or july. hason and wong quoted me 10 grand, gardel hair quoted me 5 grand, and neopel 2500. they said they would do a bald spot forming on top of my head as well as lowiering hairline etc depending on how much donor hair is available. there was one guy on this forum who went to them and was happy with his results.

Why would you go to Mexico? You live in Canada and have vastly superior doctors right under your nose.

That's some pretty faulty thinking---the kind of thinking that forces people to spend even more money on future repairs of a badly scarred scalp.

The truth is, if you can't afford 10 grand, then you just can't afford a hair transplant right now. It's as simple as that. Going to a no-name clinic anywhere--let alone in a highly unregulated country--is a recipe for absolute, unqualified disaster, as these boards attest.

I've raised this point before, and I'll say it again: you don't shop for professional services (medicine, law, etc.) in the same way you'd shop for a TV set. When you shop for a TV set, it doesn't matter where you buy it because what's in the box is always the same. And because what's in the box is always the same, it's perfectly appropriate to look for a bargain. Worst-case scenario, the TV doesn't work, and you take it back. But you can't do that with professional services! This is your head, after all. Something you obviously care about. And once it's phucked up, it's very hard to get it unphucked.

Do people really value money more than their bodies?

I Just came back from Getting 4500 grafts at Neopel . I flew into the San Diego airport where someone was waiting to pick me up and take me to the Neopel clinic in Tijuana.(about a 20 minute ride). They made reservations for me at the Lucerna Hotel and also paid for one night . My wife and I paid a couple extra nights to see some sights and enjoy some fantastic dining at nearby restaurants with top notch service and food . DR. Gabriela Hernandez and her staff were complete profesionals and explained the procedure thoroughly after they picked me up the morning of the procedure from my hotel. She now charges a flat rate of $2800 reguardless of the amount of work you need .She will harvest as much hair as possible to meet your requirements and transplant it . Make no mistake .She is a talented profesional along with her long time staff which she proudly announces have been with her since the beginning. They are friendly ,speak very good english and made me very comfortable throughout the entire procedure. After the procedure all the necessary medications and antibioics were supplied and explained before returning me to my Hotel. The next morning I was again picked up from my Hotel and driven back to the San Diego airport for my return flight home .The entire procees was made very simple and effortless and all aspects of the journey and my return were taken care of . Don't let the low price fool you .This is a top rate clinic with top notch work by and extremely skilled Doctor and a well trained staff . I would also like to add that a Local Las Vegas Doctor (my home residence) quoted me as needing about 3000 grafts at a charge of $13000 US . I had this assesment at his office and he inspected my balding patterns. The Total trip to Neopel ,including airfare, two extra nights in the hotel and 5 or 6 meals in some fantastic 4 and 5 star restaurants ,not to mention the fantastic service and general warmth I recieved from the Mexican People . and 4500 grafts came to about $3400 and was a very enjoyable experience. This was an absolute no brainer . DR. Gabriela Hernandez was well versed in single folicular staggered hairlines for the best possible and most natural looking results possible. Anyone thinking of going to Neopel don't hesitate you won't be disappointed .I plan to take some pictures and will post my before middle and end pictures after one year .

If you have any further questions I will be glad to answer them . cheers

Bonanza, glad to hear you had a pleasant experience. Of course, I'd be interested in seeing not only your photos but also many more photos/videos from other patients having work done at this clinic. Just saying they do good work is insufficient for this forum, doctors need to consistently prove that they do good work.

Also, Ive got to say that in reading prior comments on this thread, I completely disagree with the comments about Mexico being "highly unregulated" or that procedures there are inherently "risky". Frankly, I find this ignorant. The US medical system in general is not much better than Mexico's. Check WHO's most recent rankings.

Traveling to a different country to undergo cosmetic surgery is pretty common nowadays. There are skilled doctors all over the world in the HT industry and if you can get a much better deal financially overall with comparable results, then more power to you.

Best of luck Bonanza.

Bonanza,

Let me know if you'd like help sharing some compelling photographs to go along with the description of your hair transplant experience.

I think adding these images will really help the community evaluate your results.

I am originally from Vancouver as well .Now live in Vegas .I'd be glad to talk with you. And I am not a spammer in reply to the skeptic.

It is true that Dr. Hernandez (NEOPEL)website is lacking .She nor her staff are marketing wizzes .To my surprise on her computer in her office she has tons of pictures and results from 100's of partients including her own husband . Why she has not put them on her website is beyond me . My wife has her own Marketing company . (Muir Martketing) and has made some Suggestions to her and may actually do some marketing for her here in the US as well as improve on her website. She said that 80% of her business is from the US and when I booked my procedure she only had a few open dates available a few months forward. So I suspect she is doing very well despite her poor online presence .

She did however mention that her Husband ( a general practitioner) is currently in training in San Diego for the transplant procedure and they are planning on working together and expanding the business. She said he can make more money doing that than he currently makes with his general practice checking people with the flu (her words).

And I couldn't agree more with the ingnorance of people thinking if its not done in the US its crap. That is just nonsense. There are a ton of Plastic surgeons that do face lifts , lipo and dentists and a huge number of people access these services at a quater of the price ,most of them US citizens. Tijuana as well as a few other border towns cater heavily to what they call medical tourism. There were a couple of American women at the same hotel as me that had just had facelifts and the kid at the star bucks when he heard my wifes accent automatically asked if she was there for a "procedure" . My wife told him no it was her husband and he automatically replied oh your husband is bald. I wasn't there but my wife thought it was quite funny.

The doctors and work is as good as anywhere and they cater heavily to foreighners . Another place they say has the best plastic surgions in the world is Brazil . These people are making a lot of money charging considerably less than the US ,Canada or Europe. and are living quite nice lifestyles with maids and nannys . So again don't let these cheap prices fool you .This is big business and repeat business . I personally know quite a few Americans who utilize all these services on a regular basis. My wife even had a few Botox injections while she was waiting for them to finish my head .

I will include pics at a later date and they may even wind up on the Neopel website in the future . Any nay sayers don't hurt my feelings a bit. I'm just trying to help a few interested parties out with some info . If you'd rather spend your cash elswhere. I realy don't care

Cheers.

neopel hair clinic called me today and i spoke with the doctor there. i asked her what the success rate is and she said about 10-12 percent of patients the grafts dont grow but its rare. she said she would have her staff email a few patients in canada's phone numbers for me to talk to them. they said to fly into sandiego where her brother will pick me up and take me to a hotel in tijuana and then she would i would be picked up from morning 7:15 to start the procedure. she said i would need upto 2500 grafts and that she would give me the same quote as she quoted me a few months ago of $2500.

is it normal to have 10-12 percent of patints grafts not growing?

I looked at your vids and your hairloss is minimal compared to mine (I had over 4500 grafts . You do however look like you have very thick hair which will work to your advantage. How it actaully works with Dr. Hernandez is she does the strip harvest from the back of your head and whatever is there she will transfer to the top of your head . Now of course she will estimate the size of strip needed to harvest but it will not be exact so she will make sure that there will be at least 2500 grafts mimimum .In reality with your thickness hair you should have no problem .and will probably wind up with more in the end . My hair is also very thick and dense like yours and Dr. Hernandez said my hair density was double that of the average person (most people are closer to 20 per mm and she said my density was double that at about 40 . So from my strip they were able to extract just over 4500 grafts of which many are double or triple follicles as well , The single hair follicles are used for the very front hairline which is how they grow naturaly so it keeps your hairline looking natural when it is done . They biggest concern with you is you are only 25 so you may continue to have hairloss for many years to come ? So if you do the procedure now you may need to go back as your hairloss continues . There are already other procedures available that do no requre strip harvesting .A machine extracts individual follicles from the back of you head without cutting out a strip .

Of course they are not using these brand new techniques in Tijuana (yet). But for someone like you who may need a few updates as you age it might be better to wait until this new technique is used south of the border .It is done here in Vegas but you will pay a lot more than $2500.

Another option could be to use the strip technique for now and any further updates you need 5 or 10 years down the road can be done with the new neograft technique which I think will be in wide use by then or perhaps a entire new process will be invented by then .

If you research PRP (platelet rich plasma injections )that is very promising as well and does not reqire any surgery . this is an area that may solve the hairloss problem all together ? and is only about 800 to $1000 dollars per treatment here in the US ,certianly much cheaper in Mexico . Ask DR Hernandez at Neopel about it . She is familiar with the procedure and performs it .However while the method is extremely successful has to be repeated once a year . Which is not that bad .

Anyhow that will give you plenty to think about . If you want to talk to me on the phone I will be happy to . Give me your e-mail and I'll send you my phone number .

cheers

Probably for a crappy clinic those numbers are pretty decent - if they are being honest. But for a top clinic it is less then 1%.

Dr. G: 1,000 grafts (FUT) 2008

Dr. Paul Shapiro: 2,348 grafts (FUT) 2009 ~ 1,999 grafts (FUT) 2011 ~ 300 grafts (Scar Reduction) 2013

Dr. Konior: 771 grafts (FUT) 2015 ~ 558 grafts (FUT) 2017 ~ 1,124 grafts (FUE) 2020

In every country all over the world, there are always going to be cheesy doctor’s and

Cheesy clinics as well of state of the art clinics with the latest technology and superb doctors. It’s like in the US, you have your great hospitasl and doctors and there is also the LA county hospital were is so bad you have to wait long months in order to even be considered for surgery and even after they so you might end up with an infection because the doctors are newly graduated students. Dr. Gabriela Hernandez Amaya, is from the few pioneer families founders of Tijuana, her aunt Maria Elva Amaya is running for senator right now and is married to Jorge Hank Rhon previous mayor of Tijuana, there are very well known families from there.

Gabriela studied the hair technique in Switzerland and France and she goes every year

to a seminar were all the best doctors in that field attend to updtae the hair transplant tecnique, this year it was in Australia .

I am telling you all this because is funny how some people have this “stereotype”ideas of

Any doctor or clinic that isn’t in the US , and especially in Mexico . In Mexico we also have great doctors, great neighborhoods, great living, superb restaurants, reliable professionals, great universities, etc, myself I studied in Tijuana Mexico and work in the fashion industry in Los Angeles, if all in Mexico were all not that good I would'nt have the professional level to work in a country like the US no?, by the way the clinic is in a nice area of Tijuana, beautifull facilities, and also Dr. Gabriela has a reputation to live up to, she would'nt also risk her reputation to make just a couple of thousands, how do I know this?, well my mom is her mom's best friend since childhood.

I'm appauled by the blatant ethnocentrism in these threads. Mexico has a rich history of educational institutions and universities, the oldest of which predates the earliest American university by 97 years. Mexico has stricter medical regulations than the United States. Neopel recently perfomed a hair transplant on my spouse and they did a wonderful job. This was my spouse's second transplant. The first was performed by Bosley. Neopel did a much better job. Dra. Hernandez Amaya was very meticulous. The hairline looks very natural. I can post pics in a few months once the healing and hair growth has been completed. You can find great doctors and idiot doctors anywhere, even in the United States. Just do your research before picking a doctor.
