turizan
Hello all, Does Dr. Shapiro do FUE? How long is the wait for a procedure for him? Thanks!
Regular Member Superhawk Posted April 16, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted April 16, 2010 Turizan, Yes Dr. Shapiro does FUE. I know this because I just went through the procedure. I had 1110 FUE transplanted & I had to wait appx. 2 months to have Dr. Ron Shapiro due the procedure. I was told you can get in a little quicker if you want Dr. Paul Shapiro to perform the procedure. Both Docs are excellent!
js32
I had a phone consult for an FUE procedure at SMG back in February and I'm a little surprised with my experience after hearing nothing but positives about them on this site. The consult started out poorly because the consultant was late to work and I was the first appt. I was at work too so carving an hour out of my schedule wasn't easy to begin with. We finally got started about 15 minutes late and the whole conversation felt a little canned and then rushed when I was able to ask questions at the end. He actually cut me off from my last question because he didn't want to fall behind for the rest of the day. He did say I could call or email anytime after we had the initial consult so I finally sent an email with some detailed questions about a week ago...sadly, I haven't heard anything back. Has anyone else had a phone consultation with SMG? I'd be interested to hear about others' experiences. Sorry if this isn't the appropriate place for this post...wasn't sure where to put it. Bill - Seemiller
Guys, Just so you know, this post was originated back in April, 2005. In 2005, Dr. Ron Shapiro did not perform FUE but he does now. All the Best, Bill
Bill - Seemiller
js32, What you are describing doesn't sound typical to me. Who did you consult with? I'd encourage you to send a private message to "the B Spot" (his first name is Jason) with your concerns and I trust he'll respond promptly and do what he can to help you. He is a patient coordinator for Shapiro Medical Group. I have also sent Jason a private message with your concerns. Best wishes, Bill

Senior Member M&M Posted April 17, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted April 17, 2010 After some bad experience with Bosley, I wasn't exactly about to make a quick decision for my next HT. I sent in my photos in advance and then during our phone consultation, I found Matt very helpful and he took all the time that was required to answer any questions and everyone from Matt, Janna and B-Spot were very quick with responding to any inquiries I had via email or this forum. I just thought I'd share my experience, but I'm glad that Bill is forwarding this on as I strongly believe SMG prides themselves on their patient care, so they'd want to know about this feedback. Senior Member aaron1234 Posted April 17, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted April 17, 2010 Yeah, I must second M&M here. The folks at SMG were always great at getting back to me before and after the procedure. Matt and B-Spot were incredibly helpful before the surgery when I had a billion questions over the phone and email. And Dr. Paul and Janna were always right on the ball when I was fighting off a staff infection a couple days post-op. I seriously sometimes got a couple phone calls a day checking in to see how I was handling the anti-biotics. Sometimes a patient consultant might get a bit overzealous in trying to educate the patient in one phone call. But that's entirely understood since there are a ton of variables in regards to HT's. Senior Member bullitnut Posted April 17, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted April 17, 2010 my experiences with Matt janna and B spot have also been fantastic... their patient care has been impecable, and i haven't seen anyone on the forums EVER that hasn't had their questions or concerns answered quickly. Obviously i can't speak for your own consult dude but i can say that having met Matt in person that if he has offended you in any way, it would not have been intentional as hes a very nice guy and one of the most profesional and caring patient advisors out there imo 2 poor very poor UK ht's 2 world class repairs with Shapiro Medical Group original thread http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.co...d.php?t=134995 Dr Paul's procedure http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=1710 Dr Ron's procedure http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=1128
Senior Member the B spot Posted April 18, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted April 18, 2010 Guys...at SMG we try to do things the right way...good old fashioned caring customer service. If anyone every comes away from any contact with Matt, Janna, myself, Dr. Ron, or Dr. Paul feeling like they were rushed or not taken care of, ALL of us want to know about it so we can make it right. In this instance js, please feel free to contact me so we can talk things out. We can set up a time to talk on the phone and make sure you have all your questions answered. If you would like, at the end of our conversation, I would be happy to offer some suggestions of other doctors to consult with as well. Please PM me and I will make sure your situation is remedied immediately. Matt Zupan takes great pains to 100% ensure our patients are 100% educated and 100% satisfied...I know once I bring this to his attention, he will be upset that someone walked away from a consultation feeling less than satisfied. ss--I'm not sure how to respond to your post. Matt is VERY thorough, as is SMG in general. Those who want to schedule quickly, move quickly or seek an instantaneous gratification via hair transplant often find us tedious and end up choosing other clinics who do not care to take the time to properly educate their patients. I was not privy to your conversation, but if you do not fall into the category I just mentioned, perhaps it is just one of those bad conversations and giving it another shot would prove fruitful. Matt has been in the industry for 15+ years and if he was anything but thorough, patient, and caring he would have been out of the industry years ago. The guy cares about helping bald dudes..period. Again, this goes for anyone reading this thread..if you have ANY issues with SMG, please let me know, let Janna know, etc.. we are happy to address them and take care them for you. Bill - Seemiller
Jason, Thanks for your prompt response and attention to this topic. js32, I encourage you to take Jason up on his offer and contact him privately and even dialogue with him on the phone. I trust he will help you resolve any of your concerns. He's also a straight shooter and has no problem recommending you consult with other leading physicians for additional input. Jake
I sent SMG an email to schedule an in person consult and I felt like they were not very accommodating. At first they tried to push a phone consult and I said I was not interested and wanted to meet the doctor and speak to him face to face. Second I was told that I would have to first meet with Matt Zupan and that there was no guarantee that I would be able to see the doctor. I was told that they would make an effort to have the Doctor step in at the end of the consult but there would be no guarantee. I have had several HT procedures and I am only interested in meeting directly with the Doctor and not a patient educator. I have no interest in flying 7 hours for a consult with no guarantee that I will be able to meet with the Doctor. Can I get some feedback from those of you who have had in person consults. Where you able to meet with the Doctor?
Senior Member hairthere Posted April 19, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted April 19, 2010 Jake, I have only been for three in-person consults one of which was with a salesguy (MHR). Dr. Feller has no sales staff so he does the consult himself. I personally would always want to meet with the HT doc prior to a surgery. That being said, Dr. Shapiro has a stellar reputation and has plenty of proven results. If he's your top choice I wouldn't let that deter me from going to him. Senior Member Janna Posted April 19, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted April 19, 2010 We at SMG do all we can to accommodate every question that arise from prospective patients and SMG patients alike. It's not typical for Matt to respond slowly or impatiently, however, he was on Spring break two weeks ago and then did his best to catch up last week. He has a fantastic track record and is appreciated by most who come into contact with him. Jake, We have yet to turn any patient away from consulting with our doctors. However, every perspective patient still needs to get all the basics covered with Matt beforehand. This is a necessary step that Dr. Shapiro feels is very important. He wants all bases covered so he can evaluate and make assessment efficiently as possible. Since you have had other ht procedures, you will not likely need much time with Matt. If you schedule an in-house consult on a day your chosen doctor has scheduled surgery, that doctor will be able to see you. As I said before, no one has been turned away without seeing the doctor as part of his consultation. Please feel free to contact me if you'd like additional assistance in scheduling a consultation with Dr. Shapiro. Jake
I just scheduled an in office consult with SMG. I will be flying in from Florida just for the day and really hope that Dr. Ron Shapiro will be able to spend some time meeting with me. I prefer only in office consults as you can really get a good feel for the Doctor and his staff. I will let you know how it goes.
HairNoMore
I had a phone consult for an FUE procedure at SMG back in February and I'm a little surprised with my experience after hearing nothing but positives about them on this site. Has anyone else had a phone consultation with SMG? I'd be interested to hear about others' experiences. Sorry if this isn't the appropriate place for this post...wasn't sure where to put it. I had a similar experience, well, about the email message not being answered. Except my experience was with Dr. Feller. I emailed their offices. Sent photos. Didn't hear back for a few weeks. Sent a follow up email and still haven't heard back for a few weeks. Perhaps, I wasn't a good candidate or maybe something else, not sure. I'll move forward with my shopping around. Does Dr. Shapiro have any posted results for FUE work? Any other docs you all can recommend with pictures of their work? Thanks. Oh and one more question. How do I get in contact with the people who represent Dr Shapiro on this forum such as B Spot? I didn't see any phone numbers and the send private message options says "It's coming soon" Edited July 18, 2010 by HairNoMore
