  1. Thanks guys. Ya, I asked Dr. Shapiro about it and he thought that after a month and a half I should be fine. I also talked with Matt at the clinic and he mentioned it would be a good idea to wear something like a skull cap to help from excessive rubbing. However he also mentioned that he hadn't seen any studies on the matter so it's not quite clear as to the impact on the follicles. I'm obviously a little paranoid about it and just wanted to see if anyone had heard anything to the contrary. Shapiro Medical Group are an excellent group of professionals and did a really great job on my head. I just want to make sure I do my part now. Again, thanks for the response.
  2. Hello everyone, I just recently had my second HT with Dr. Ron Shapiro appx. 5 weeks ago. I had a 1255 FUE procedure and have only minor reddening in the recipient area. I ride motorcross which requires me to wear a helmet. I would like to get your opinions on how safe it is to wear a helmet this soon after surgery. I don't want to risk ruining my HT. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Hey guys, I just recently had my second HT with doctor Ron Shapiro. I had 1255 FUE's into the temple areas and I'm 5 weeks post op. I still have some slight reddening at the recipient area and a well healed donor area. I ride motorcross and was wondering if there's any chance of ruining the transplant by putting on a helmet and ridding my dirt bike?
  4. Hey guys, I had a FUE procedure with DR. Ron Shapiro appx 7 weeks ago. Most of the hair has shed and I still have some redness in the recipient area. My question is about trauma to the recipient area post-op. I sleep in very precarious positions and the other morning noticed that I had a compression mark going right over my recipient area from sleeping face down against a seem on my sheets. Does anyone know if this could damage the follicle or am I just being paranoid? Also, I was told I could excersise at 100% after 10 days. Has there been any research that shows anything different as far as graft survival rates with intense excersise? Thanks in advance, I can't wait to hear your responses.
  5. Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that I finally posted a few pictures (pre-op & post-op) on my photo album. Check them out and let me know what you think.
  6. Cori, I just had 1110 FUE don by Dr. Ron Shapiro & it was wonderful experiance. I highly recommend them & am 100% positive you will not regret it. I will be posting my results and a write up very shortly. Good Luck Amigo.
  7. Turizan, Yes Dr. Shapiro does FUE. I know this because I just went through the procedure. I had 1110 FUE transplanted & I had to wait appx. 2 months to have Dr. Ron Shapiro due the procedure. I was told you can get in a little quicker if you want Dr. Paul Shapiro to perform the procedure. Both Docs are excellent!
  8. Thanks nsuede, I am all finished & recovering very comfortably in my hotel room. The whole procedure was a breeze. You have nothing to worry about if you choose SMG. My girlfriend and I just got back from the Great Mall of America, the money we spent there hurt more than anything during the surgery, LOL. I didn't get any more work done today, just a shampooing and pictures. I have been taking pics every night and will be posting them very soon. We are flying home tomorrow morning and I will upload all my photos to my imac & then to this site. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you, and once again thanks for the kind words.
  9. hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that I just got done with my second day and it went very well. My appt. was at 8am and I was done with everything by 3pm. the total # of grafts for both days was 1110 fue. This was less than we thought I would need but the coverage seems great. I will hopefully find out exactly what my transplanted density is tomorrow. Jana informed me that my donor are was appx. 103/cm2 so I have plenty to work with. Yey! Also, I was told by Tom that my donor are has heeled very nicely and quicker than normal. I go for my shampoo tomorrow & possibly any minor adjustments if needed, Dr. Shapiro is very meticulas.
  10. Rachman, congratulations on a great choice. IMO I think its the best one you could have made for the very highest quality FUE procedure at the most reasonable price out there. Also, as Thana has mentioned in the past, Dr. Ron Shapiro is the God Father of the hairline. You will not be dissapointed. Read my previous post on a very quick look bck on my first day and also feel free tp Private message me if you need more info. Good luck with your future procedure, even though you wont need much luck, SMG is awesome.
  11. Jackedup, Thank you for your response & prayers. I just got back to my hotel room after appx. 11 hours at the clinic. I was also very nervous before hand and had several thoughts of canceling, I am so glad I didn't. The experiance was amazing, u have nothing to worry about. Easier said than done but I was really really nervous and after having the first of two days completed, I am very, very pleased. The experiance was awesome and the staff is really top notch and as nice as could be. Dr. Ron Shapiro is very meticulous. I had appx. 740 fue grafts transplnated today and the Dr. thinks maybe 500 more tomorrow. My head looks great and the hairs are perfectly angled. Dr. Shapiro will be working defining the hair line tomorrow, even though it looks great right now. He will be doing his signature saw tooth like hair line refinement tomorrow. I will do a fool write up along with pics within the next few days so please keep a look out for it. Also, if you want to write a private message to me I will give you my email and give you more info. But for now, just know that the worst part of this whole process is the worrying prior to getting to the clinic. They are top notch and I am very glad I went with them instead of Armani, Cole, or Bosley. Let me know if u have any questions and I promise you will not get any B.S. from me.
  12. Bullitnut, I have decided to go with Dr. Shapiro. I'm scheduled for an FUE procedure tomorrow(4/12/10). Im very nervous but I think ultimately it will be worth it. I will post pics ass soon as I can. Wish me luck.
  13. Bullitnut, I have'nt decided yet but I have a consult scheduled for sept. 29 with Dr. Feller, we shall see what he has to say. I will be setting up a consult with Dr. Shapiro as well in the very near future. I'm still very nervous and think I need to see some results in person.

yomommyz, from what I understand, Proscar & Propecia are both Finesteride. One is just given in a 1 mg version and marketed for hair loss so they can charge more(Propecia). Proscar is the generic version and it comes in 5 mg pills. I cut mine in fourths and take 1.25mg/day. I don't know when it started working because I had no thining on top or back of my head. I believe it's probably slowing my hair loss however since my temples are still receeding, I'm not sure when it actually kicked in and started working. Sorry I couldn't be more specific, but I just didn't have anything obvious happen after I started taking it.

yommomyz, Ya I stopped takimng Rogaine because it isn't proven to work as well for the hairlines as it is on the crown and because of the other reasons I mentioned. Looking back, I would have stayed on it a little longer while taking Proscar as well. I'm still taking Proscar and the only thing I see changing with my hair is the temples are still receeding, Damn It! I think Proscar is better because, for one, you pop it in and forget about it, and two, it works all over the head by inhibiting DHT conversion. Rogaine only works where you apply it.

yomommyz, It's greatr to here that you are going to do more research before, if ever, starting on Propecia. However, remember that if you truly are being effected by MPB, the sooner you start, the better results you will potentialy have. Just something to think about, good luck.

yommomyz, I took minox 5% for a couple of years prior to taking Proscar and only a short time after, don't know if it helped cause I used it on my temples mainly. I got tired of the wet look it gave me every morning when i put it on. Not to flattering to have the front of your head looking wet when you are already thining. Also, when I put it on at night I had to be carefull how I slept or all my pillows turned yellow.

Yomommyz, from what I've read, the studies that have been done have been mainly measured by the growth rate of the crown. This does not mean that Propecia wont work on the top of the head or even the front, however since the study was only conducted on the crown, they can't make a claim that it works other places. Like I said, this is just what I've read, I'm definetly not an expert on the drug. From my own experiance, it has definetly not stopped the hair loss in my temples or the front, but it has slowed it down to a very slow crawl. My barber told me that I have no sign of hair loss in my crown or the top of my head. I have alot of hair everywhere but the temples. Hope this helps.
  19. Mohsin Raja, thanks for sharing your HT experiance. It is certainly good news to here how quickly one can resume normal life after a strip procedure. It's so weired though the difference in a clinics recomendation as far as how much time is required before you can become active again post strip surgery. When I had an over the phone conversation with Shane at alviarmani, he reccomended waiting 6 months before resuming rigerous workouts. I couldn't believe it when he told me that. 6 months to 7 days it quite a difference. Well Mohsin I wish you a speedy recovery and excellent results. Keep us updated & I hope you start a blog. Follicle girl, thank you as well for your input. It's good to here that the scar is becoming less of an issue than it has been in the past. I've read here that a good doctor with the right skill & closure technique can make a scar pencil thin but this sounds like a step above that even. I's there anyway you can send some pics from a pt shaved down to a 2-3 guard so we can see how well this technique works? Thanks again, Superhawk.
  20. B spot, thnx for that information, I will certainly consider it. Also, I don't remember who I spoke with, but after he gave me that answere, it made me realize what kind of quality peolpe are employed by SMG. Kudos to you and your team, it's good to know there are people like you out there amongst all the BS that sometimes comes with this business. I'm really glad to hear that FUE is being done at your clinic on a regular basis now.
  21. Thnx for that reply. It's good to know that FUSS is not as bad as I've heard. When I talked with armani reps they recommended not working out for something like 6 months post op, thats seems crazy & I never understood it.
  22. Thanatopsis, SMG offered to do srip, however after I inquired about FUE, they said I would probably be a good candidate for it and one of the Docs recomended was Dr. Cole. I consulted with them appx 1 year ago and the consultant told me that they where not the best people to go with as far as FUE is concerned giving the reason for being that they didn't have alot of experiance with it. Wow, thats being honest. By the way, was the strip procedure an easy recovery or whas it quite some time before you got back to your every day life? Thanks for all your input.
  23. thanatopsis, thanks for your response and input on this issue. I agree with you about R. Shapiro, his hairlines are great. However I'm a little hesitant to get a strip procedure done so I guess that leaves me with Dr. feller. I've seen your pictures and your results are awesome. Congrats!!! Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you had a strip procedure done with Dr. Feller. I hope I can get an equally good result with FUE from him. I've been talking with Spex via e-mail and he seems to answere all my questions quickly and compitently. I really appreciate that. Anyways, Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.

yommomyz, I have not had any erection problems since I've been on Proscar. I'm still as horny as ever so the sex drive is not a problem either. The only thing I can say that is negative about Proscar is that I get a dull slight ache in me testys occasionaly. Docs aren't worried about it so I deal with it. I couldn't imagine being bald so it's worth it to me. Good luck man, & if you have any other questions you can always e-mail me. My emeail is located on my member profile.
