  1. Ailene, Thanks for the great tip for those of us who are avid weightlifters! What has your clinic's experience been with using the tricho technique for revision cases? Thanks, GuitarPlayer
  2. I have read many accounts of guys reporting that their body hair decreased as a result of using Propecia or Proscar. Not necessarily a bad thing! Unless of course you're thinking of transplanting body hair to the scalp.
  3. Paris, I am not aware of any american docs that can perform sessions as large as Hasson and Wong. Keep in mind that one must possess above-average donor density and/or above-average laxity to qualify for a 5000+ graft session. I too agree that their results are truly impressive. GuitarPlayer
  4. Jotronic, Do you believe the tricho technique to be as effective for revision cases? Thanks, GuitarPlayer
  5. Yes, I take a multi-vitamin daily. Only for overall health though. Vitamins may make your hair look healthier or possibly grow a little faster, but don't expect it to regrow your hair or halt your hair loss.
  6. Kjp, You might also want to consult with Dr. Jeffrey Epstein who offers consults in the New York City area. One of his areas of expertise happens to be repair/revision surgery. GuitarPlayer
  7. Kjp, Dr. Bernstein has a very good reputation for doing repair work. What did he say he could do for you? Are any existing grafts being removed? How many new grafts are you having transplanted? Good luck with your surgery. GuitarPlayer
  8. MPBC, Anything other than follicular units is outdated. I wouldn't consider doing any more minigrafting. Regarding major shock loss, how much of your original hair do you have left? I wouldn't think you have much of your original hair left after four transplants. You shouldn't experience much shock loss to your transplanted hair. As Laughter's Medicine stated, geographic location shouldn't play a major role in your decision, however, there are some very fine physicians in the New York City area. Dr. Bernstein, Dr. Epstein, and Dr. True are all in the New York City area and all come highly recommended on this site. It is always wise to have more than one consult. With that being said, Hasson and Wong have a very good reputation, so you are off to a good start. GuitarPlayer
  9. Just watched the video twice. Like many others, I couldn't find the scar either. Simply amazing how techniques and technology continue to evolve.
  10. Hi All, I recently purchased a book called America's Top Doctors (A Castle Connolly Guide), as I am researching some other medical ailments that I have apart from hair loss. I thought some of you might be interested to know that both Dr. Robert Bernstein and Dr. Jack Fisher are recommended in this book for doing outstanding hair transplantation. Both also come highly recommended on this site. The basis for selection in this book is peer nomination. GuitarPlayer

  12. Mrjb, Having nearly 3000 grafts at the hands of Dr. True should provide you with excellent results. In my opinion, Dr. True is one of the more artistic surgeons when it comes to hairlines. GuitarPlayer
  13. Like Doc Patient, I also started using 5% minoxidil a couple of weeks after my procedure. I too was an "early sprouter." The hair started coming in around 2.5 months. I still use 5% minoxidil along with Proscar, because of their synergistic effect when taken together.
  14. Jotronic, I have read that doctors are able to extract more grafts by using the tricho technique or another variation. Has this been your experience with your clinic? Thanks, GuitarPlayer
  15. Lashboy, You have to remain on Propecia if you intend to prevent future hair loss. If you stop, you will lose any regrowth you may have had and your hair loss will start up again. GuitarPlayer
  16. I have been using it for the last six months or so and believe that it has thickened up my midscalp and crown a bit. According to Dr. Lee, it has a three-pronged attack: inhibits the synthesis of DHT, converts testosterone into estrogen in the scalp, and blocks the androgen receptor sites.
  17. I have never heard of Prosmin. Brand name Proscar should only run you about $80-$90 for a 4-5 month supply if you use a pill cutter. At least you'd have piece of mind then as to what you're getting.
  18. I used MSM for about six months after my transplant a couple of years ago and I swear that my hair must have been growing twice as fast. Others have experienced the same phenomenon.
  19. Good luck with your future endeavors Robert. Hope to see you back posting soon.
  20. Pat, Great analysis on this technique. Are there any differences between Hasson and Wong's, Dr. Epstein's, and Dr. Rose's respective techniques or are they just giving the technique different names? GuitarPlayer
  21. Graftcyte is generally regarded as one of the best remedies to use post-operatively. This is because it contains copper peptides, which are very beneficial for healing as well as for graft survival.
  22. Ok... I'll start. Here are some things that I would consider to be "Red Flags." 1. If a doctor is still doing micro and minigrafting. 2. If a doctor fails to show a prospective patient an adequete number of before and after pictures. 3. If a doctor lowballs the patient with the number of grafts in order to "get them in the chair." 4. If a doctor tells a prospective patient that he or she will never need another procedure. 5. If a doctor does not discuss a maintenance plan/strategy with the patient. I'll try to think of more later. GuitarPlayer
  23. I tend to "cycle" my shampoos. I use a thickening shampoo such as Loreal Vive for Men or Jason Thin to Thick on Days One and Two, and then I use a therapeutic shampoo such as Nizoral or Neutrogena T-Sal on Day Three. I find that using a therapeutic shampoo on Day Three alleviates much of the itching caused by minoxidil. Therapeutic Shampoos, more specifically Nizoral, also supposedly reduce some of the scalp DHT.
  24. Island Girl, Most patients experience some "shock loss," however, this varies widely depending on the skill of the physician. A skilled physician who is very meticulous in making his incisions will cause his patients much less shock loss. If the shocked hair is going to grow back, it should start growing back around the 2-3 month mark. I wish you the best of luck. GuitarPlayer
  25. I have never heard of Ron Shapiro having a brother who also does hair transplants. Are you sure you don't mean Dr. Rose? Dr. Rose frequently does transplants at Shapiro's clinic, however, he is not Shapiro's brother.
