Fair question. I think Density per sq cm can be over emphasized. It is also dependent on a person's natural thickness of hair shafts--some are thicker than others and can have good appearence with less grafts sq cm. 50 vs 80 you would not notice that much difference in the middle/frontal core but little difference in hairline and transition zones-- BUT in my opinion, if you want a 100% natural undetected look, then your hairline and transition zones shouldnt have as much grafts per sq and should have a "blending transition zone"going into the frontal core. I wouldnt use gel--just my opinion--dont like things that could potential clog pores/follicles. If swelling and coloration has return to normal, just blow dry back/or comb over, and spray a strong hold hairspray. Elite vs Excellent is good segmentation. The question is what quantifies "Elite"-- TOP 5 for what type of procedures and what needs? Cosmetic surgeons some are the best with eyes, others face, others, breast, others lipo/lifts, ect. No different with HT doctors-- Some better at hairlines and temples, others better at crown work, others focus on total coverage for example. I think it depends on how many surgeries a doctor has done on what type of patient. The more cases you do lets say with hairlines, the more profcient you will be over a doctor who does most cases of crown work for example. Good choice to fly that far. Stay the night and go back to clinic to get your bandage off and clean/follow up. Then you can put on a loose baseball cap (new or clean one)--sunglasses if rare case your eyes are slightly swollen, then buy one of those neck pillows at the airport. More than likely at 17 your probably were hitting your testosterone peak or androgen stage, thus your body adjusted-- late teens is when some MPB starts to kick in. It is all about what a person wants and feels about themself! Like any cosmetic surgery, for some people they feel better about themselves by correcting flaws/age/hairloss/ect. Others dont mind a bit about these things. It is an individual decision. Given one's occupation, corrective cosmetic procedures can have a HUGE financial impact short and long term-- much greater than investing the 10k (they might make 100k more)-- It is all independent and situational. I think the TEAMS for MS and efficency comes down to how many MS they conduct-- the more then the TEAM probably have more synergy and require less people than lets say a TEAM that only does half the number of MS cases. Lots of factors. I can think of about 2-3 doctors that most cases are MS thus have perfected the sessions with their TEAMS over the years. H/W being 2 of them. You are at the youngest level I would recommend. Get a personal consult/or internet consult if out of state. Also, be VERY conservative in your approach-- dont deplete your donor for potential future HL and if cloning/ect ever comes around-- you want some donor hair to work with. Fist GREAT job of doing your research and narrowing done 3 good finalist for your HT. This is the most important part of a HT that many patients do not do--so congrats! You have 3 good ones on your list, I would just looking at 1) the experience--# of cases each has done on your type of HL 2) Which surgeon does more cases with your needs (exp. hairline, crown, overall coverage, ect)-- then make a decision. I'm sure this can be done with the advancement of high magnification equipment, but probably should not-- blood supply is critical for graft survival and regrowth-- (its like planting too many flowers in a small area-- not all will grow). Also, even with the highest magnification, cross graft transection will occur. If you want that many g.p.sqcm then plan a couple of sessions. I think the key is not how many people are working on mega sessions, its how many people will be disecting grafts from the strips. I think 3 people disecting FUs for MegaSessions is enough as long as the FUs stay moist and are not exposed too long. The only thing that has concerned me with M.S. is the surgeon most of the time has to have another assitant working opposite side of the head implanting the FU at the same time do to time contraints (not always but a lot of times this is the set up). I have been one that wants my surgeon to do all the graft incisions and graft placements because angle/direction/depth are critical with final outcome and I do not want a nurse (or even a LPN) doing the critical stages of HT. This is a major factor for everybody younger than 35 I would say, even though 35-50 MPB continues. Suggestion is to maybe look at not doing a MEGA SESSION per say, unless you have very dense donor and know that your donor will not be depleted with MS. Grafts are secure, Gently wash with mild shampoo like baby shampoo and soak it while patting/lightly rubbing. Do this several time a day and should come off rather quickly. Most doctors rely on a full apt schedule. As long as their isnt any dislodging as Dr Carmen mentioned, you will be fine. As a precaution I would sleep in a recliner the first few nights. After a week, your grafts are pretty much set in place. Stopping meds prior to any surgery depends on a person's own metabolism, for some they remove drugs from their system quickly and others take days/weeks. I would suggest at least 1 week prior to surgery (if you are prone to bleeding-- then stop 3-4 wks prior). BUT continue taking your Propecia. You can resume Rogaine 1 week post op. DUDE-- do not do anything with your physical appearance based on a bargin! If you dont have the money-wait and save it. Its better than getting botched! Also a facelift is completely different than a HT. On a facelift they actually cut at the hairline, then remove a strip of skin, then stretch and reattach-- thus the hairline might be lower. Unless you want a facelift, your hairline/HT surgery would be graft placment---if done by doctor who knows what they are doing. Please rethink this decision. Interesting. I think we are a ways off. Believe it or not, Tom Arnold (yes the actor and best dam sports host) is actively involved in hair farming and hair cloning. He has even discussed it in some interviews in the past. He has had HT since the early 90's and has had several procedures that he has discussed. But I remember he is involved--probably as a financial supporter of research or as a trial patient with this. First, good news it looks like you have plenty of donor hair. Yes, they can remove hair and place in other areas but this is usually done with the old huge plugs, which you dont have. More than likely, a top notch surgeon would probably creat a new soft feather hairline a few mm in front your your current, then blend 2,3,4 hair grafts into what you have currently and into your receeding area and frontal core. I've seen Dr. Shapiro do something similar to a patient like you but they didnt have as much donor and it turned out great. Your donor scar-- is no problem. I had one scar similar to yours and Dr. Shapiro excised it during strip removal and closed to almost a seemless scar--barely can feel it and it can not been seen. With 5 days after surgery, the hair goes into a dormant period (the length varies by patient and by surgery--each one of mine were different times). The hair grows back at different periods thus regrowth can continue out to 18 months, but normally 12 months is 99%. One thing that speeds up the dormant period and sometimes preven dormant fallout (which was my case on my last HT) is to use Graphcyte and keep the grafts most along with Rogaine after the 5th day. Continue using Propecia as well throughout the process. This seems to speed up the healing as well as the dormant fallout. If you can shave and wear a baseball cap for a few months, then shave. If you work or are around people alot, then dont shave. It doesnt change the results, but it is easier for the surgeon if you are shaved. I've never shaved for any of my procedures and results are great. The session might take a little longer and if doing a lot of middle third core placement- might be time consuming. crown, hairline/temple no big deal. I am one that believes don't spend what you can not afford-- but A suggestion for leverage. With the interest rates at an all-time low, get a credit card with a 0% 12-18 rate, and figure out how much you have to pay each month to pay off balance of HT. DO NOT USE FOR ANYOTHER REASON THAN YOUR HT. --this is what gets 90% of people in financial trouble. Another option, is if you own a house, take out a low interest home equity line of credit which might be tax deductable in your state. Sounds like your have rapid HL. First 3months with Propecia-- I would recommend also using xtra strength Rogaine as well as the 2 together have greater success. Make sure your shampoo is mild and doesnt contain ingrediants that might "clog" the pores/follicles. Finally, look at your diet intake. Make sure you are not eating fried food or saturated fat. Balanced good carb and protein diet with min fat combined with Multi-vitamin and Omega acids.
