  1. I've been of propecia for 6 1/2 years and have had no problems or side effects. I do understand your questions into long term side effects and long term studies. What I have done is every 24-30 months take a 3-4 month "break" off of propecia for a clean out period if you are concerned. I've done this a few time, but be prepared to start to have some additional fall out after 4 weeks and when you start back it might take 8 weeks to establish the effecacy.
  2. Any experience with Dr. Gho overseas? I hear is is recgonized as a World leader in HT research including "cloning and hair duplication". Any info.
  3. Anyone had experience with Dr. Gho I believe he is in the Netherlands? Not for sure if that the correct country. I hear he is on the leading edge of HT research and is recgonized as a research leader in the field?

  5. No during the past 13 years no one noticed my MPB because I started early when my temple areas started to receed then future HT behind the hairline with few in the hairline. I didnt start thinning at the "crown" until about 4 years ago thats when I started using Rogain xtra strength and propecia which seems to stop/slow the loss in the crown area. Plus, I wear/comb my hair back therefore nothing was ever noticable. But as I said the downside to staring early is more procedures (take the good with the bad-- I wouldnt have changed a thing).
  6. Arfy, Yes I agree, I've watched Tom on various shows over the last 10 years and he started off very "pluggy" and used concealers. You can tell he still uses concealers on his crown area whenever there is a back or side shot. However, his frontal hairline now looks very natural, so I too think he has had some FU refinement/fill in done. On the LEtterman show they had a close up during his opening act and I have a 62 inch Big Screen and look closely. I couldnt even tell he had any work done on the front if I didnt know better from the years that I've watched him.
  7. Arfy, Yes I'm familiar with Dr. Woods in Sydney. I've known about him for over a year. One of my friends had HT done with him and is happy with the results. Dr. Woods procedure is basically FUE like others in the US are starting to do. He was the first to develope this technique a few years ago and has just started teaching it to others around the world the last year. Its the same technique but he has a little more experience with this FUE method.
  8. Question to all who have had HT's. I've had many HT with the last 5yrs ago. I've always combed my hair straight back. What experience from you HT veterns is the best hair style to wear? I do know that the shorter is better (the longer the hair the more thin look you have). Just looking for some opinions. Smoothy
  9. I've read a few postings about Tom Arnold and his HT's. I've watched TOm on many shows talking about his HT-- even his "The Best Dam Sports Show Period". The first time I saw him was as a guest on the old Terry Bradshaw saw about 5 yrs ago and he went into detail about his HT--said he is proactive in hair restoration and very positive (said he's had many HT over the past 10 yrs). At the time he had somewhat of a "pluggy" look but that was right before FU got popular. Well, last week he hosted the David Letterman Show and had a lot of close up head shots. To my surprise his hairline looked completely natural. He had it cut short in the front (spiked a little) and the rest short and combed back. It looked like he must have had additional FU since the last season filming of his sports show. 2 Questions: Does anyone know who he uses (I've heard he has a different surgeon than the one he started with)? Also, I've heard him mentioned at least 2 different shows about "Hair Farming" with HT-- he says he is a firm believer and its worked with him--I know about cloning, but what is farming?

  11. I've had a total of 5 HT in the last 13yrs. Most all being micro&mini grafts in the early-mid 90's expect for my last HT about 5 yrs ago which was my only FU. My hairline looks OK but I would like a FU touchup and work on my temple(corners) which have receeded in the last 5yrs and is starting to expose a few old plug grafts. My question is after 5 HT (a total of around 4,000 grafts), can a person get good enough results with a 6th HT? On my last HT 5yrs ago, Dr. Norwood said that I have enough donor for about 2 more HT but suggested I wait at least another 5 yrs before my next and at the time also mentioned saving enough donor for possible "cloning" in the future. Well its been 5yrs and I'm looking at additional work on my hairline for a COMPLETE natural appearance. Also, since I have 5-6 scars in my donor area. Can you consolidate some of the scars with the next HT donor removal? Thanks for the feedback.

  13. Arfy, Your right, Shampoos do not help to regrow hair. However, the newer shampoos, like Nioxin, do keep your hair shaft and scalp extremely clean. They also help remove DHT on the scalp surface and add nutrients to the hair itself. These type of shampoos, in my opinion, leverage HT, and drugs like propecia that work internal. Using high tech shampoos only will not do you any good in maintaining your hairloss. Arfy, keep up the good postings.
  14. Just wanted to pass along what I've done for the past 5 years to keep my "locks". First, I have had a total of 6 HT over the past 13 years with the last one being FU about 5 years ago. SInce that last procedure, I wanted to make sure I maintained my investment as well as future hairloss. This is what I've been using the last 5 years since that last HT, and its been very successful for me: *Take Propecia every night before bed (DHT levels are highest at night when at sleep) *Use Nioxin Shampoo daily (the cleanser, then the scalp therapy, then put on the nutrient gel/spray) *Use Rogain Extra Strength 2x a day (morning/evening about 3 hrs before bedtime-- so that it is absorbed before my head hits the pillow) *Use Nizoral Shampoo once a week (usually Sundays so that I can remember) *Daily in the morning I take a multi-vitamin, bee pollen, B-6, zinc, V-C, V-E, and sawpollmedo. (side plug: Buy all your vitamins/nutrient supplements at www.netrition.com -- cheapest prices) *Finally, on those days I have a meeting/presentations ect- I use Toppiks to cover up my crown area (I comb my hair back so I do not use Toppiks on the frontal which looks natural with HT) It works for me the last 5 years, thought I would share. Everyone's different but you never know unless you try.

  16. I've been using Nioxin for about 6 months (the cleanser, scalp therapy, nutritent gel) and I've noticed my hair a lot more "clean" with no "build up"-- its very smooth, however I havent noticed any hair regrowth? Does anyone no how long before one might see improvments? ALso, I noticed Regenex website now has on-line ordering available and the prices are more economical than Nioxin. Has anyone tried Regenex--beside Matthew McCon. who said he has taken it for 2 years to get his results-- thats a long time. Any experience out there on these 2 shampoo systems?
  17. Well, I've been an active reader of this site for some time now, and finally had to log on and reply on the postings regarding the HTC of Tulsa, or the "Tulsa Clinic". I am a veteran of HT, I had my first about 13 years ago in the early 90's and have had 5 since. My first couple of plug graft sessions was done by Dr. McClellon when he first started out at a "chain clinic" in the midwest. (nothing big-- only about 90 large grafts total). Then I found out about Dr. Norwood in Oklahoma City (Norwood scale)... At the time, early 90's he was the expert and very well regarded in the community (Shapario and others were just getting established)... Dr. Norwood was great with advance technology/state of the art techniques during this time when the "old plug/mini graft" techniques were used. (Norwood has since retired). During my various sessions with Dr. Norwood, I noticed his head nurse-- Nurse Betty and assistant nurse (Nurse Clair)-- Yes the same ones at the now Tulsa Clinic, were trying to do more of the HT procedures-- Dr. Norwood would do most, but they would always be pressuring/asking him to do more of the procedures. They were extremely nice but seemed to want to be "MD's" instead of Nurses. Nurse Betty had been with Dr. Norwood since the beginnng in the late 60's, however shortly after my last HT appartently Dr. Norwood and Betty had a "falling out" for unexplained reasons? (Nurse Clair had left a yr prior). It was at this time Nurse Betty started working at the Tulsa Clinic starting up HT and trying to compete with Dr. Norwood (who had since brought on a new young doctor--Dr. Lehr to train and eventually preceed him after retirement)... The Tulsa Clinic then tried to compete with the Norwood Clinic by offering unheard of low prices for HT. From my information, Nurse Betty and Nurse Clair who she was able to rehire, were doing all of the HT procedures-- including donor removal, graft placement, and closure. My last procedure with Dr. Norwood about 5 years ago was my first FU HT (which turned out great) and it was the only time I had a problem in almost a decade of HTs. This is the one time that Nurse Betty closed my donor area which seemed to be just like my previous 5 procedures when Dr. Norwood closed, however after going back to the hotel, taking my meds, watching TV, and putting ice on my donor area I feel to sleep (with some mild prescribed sleeping pills) only to be awakened about an 1 1/2 hrs later with something dripping down the back of my neck. Still half out of it, I reached around to wipe off what I thought was just "sweat" to find blood running down my neck and back. I got out of bed and my entire pillow, shirt, and part of the bed sheet was soaked with Blood-- I dont know how long I had been bleeding before I woke up-- but I'm glad I woke up. I immediately got into my car, still half out of it, and proceded back to the clinic-- calling on my cell phone ahead to tell them of the conidition. When I got there, Dr. Norwood was already out and Nurse Betty looked alarmed. SHe called in Dr. Lehr who was in the office at the time and he stitched up a small area the was appartently left open during the initial closure. It was a small area that only required just 2-3 stitches, but one that should have been done at time of closure-- I could have BLED OUT! Sorry, for the lengthy posting, but being the first posting, I wanted to give my experience with HT, background, and opinion in relation to the personnel at the TUlsa CLinic. I really believe Nurse Betty and Nurse CLair probably are one of the top experience HT nurses in the country with decades of experience and are 2 of the nicest people you will meet, but are not MD's-- bottom line. And in my opinion which is just one person's, they want to be in charge and think they know as much as a MD in regards to HT which has resulted from the postings I've been reading on the Tulsa Clinic. There are roles and responsiblies of each person regardless of experience and if you have not been to Med School and received your MD regardless of the experience, you should not be participating in medical procedures beyond that of the role of your responsibility-- in this case a Nurse or assistant. That's just my professional opinion, not to take anything away from Nurse Betty and Clair for they are wonderful, carring people.. BUT ARE NOT DOCTORS--PERIOD. Just my opinion.
