  1. It takes around 4 months to see any growth for most people (some see immediate), but then after 4 months you will see growth up to 18 months (80% will be regrown in 12 months). Get on propecia NOW, and xtra strength Rogain now to help increase blood circulation for the grafts to grow, and take MSM 2,000-3,000 mg a day for nutrient to the FU's. These should help greatly.
  2. When considering cosmetic surgery or HT's-- I dont understand why people insist on something close???Yes it would be nice-- but when you dealing with something that effects your face/hair, you need to go to the best-- regardless. What is an extra $300-$400 flight (hotel is usually covered by the physician), for the rest of your life? Your paying several thousands of dollars-I would think an extra few hundred bucks to get some of the best surgeons in the world would be a no brainer/? Come on people--- think about it????????? And if "Houston" is insisting on stay close to home , then from my research the "best available to Houston TX" is Dr. Lehr in OKC-- it's a 55min. direct flight. But if your going to buy a plane ticket-- might as well book one for MN or Canada!!!
  3. Propecia has no clinical evidence of imparing conception. However, do not let your wife touch the pills-- read the package insert. I've been on propecia for 6 years and have had 2 healthy kids. However, I personally decided to get off the drug while conceiving. I stopped about 2 weeks before trying-- then got back on once my wife conceived. There is no science evidence regarding this-- I just played it safe. Hopefully it want take you a year to conceive??????????????
  4. I would recommend not using covera' or fullmore until around 6 months out. Personally I would not want to apply anything to the scalp than can clog pores or follicles until complete healing around 6 months. Instead use Toppiks a week after HT-- Toppiks fibers binds to the existing hair and not the scalp-- when on the scalp it doesnt penetrate. Good luck.
  5. G, I understand you "emotional pain". I myself a decade ago started loosing my hair at the same time as you did. I had my first HT when I was 23 and in hinesight should have waited a couple more years. My first HT was just for my temples receeding area-- but should have waited. I didnt have the meds back then like now. I didnt start the meds your on until 6 yrs ago. The meds, for me, didnt regrow hair but limited/reduced the fallout. They should by you more time and I woul HIGHLY recommend trying to wait a few more years. You have long hair-- Like I did at one time. A great solution-- which a stylest to the stars told me; is cut your hair short. The longer your hair is, the "thinner" it looks because of the weight of the hair. Cutting it should-- especially in the front hairline area, makes the hair "standup" and thereby giving an illusion of thicker hair. When I did cut my hair short in the front and compared to my before pics-- it looked like I had thicker hair. Try this and I think you will be really surprised. Continue the meds and by 12 months they should kick in-- DONT GET OFF THE MEDS. Also, try combing your hair forward if your receding hairline bothers you a lot. Good luck and in 3 years, technology will be even better than it is now.
  6. DO is Doctor of Ostopathic and MD is Medical Doctor. They are 2 different types of medical schools. Historically DO's trained in pharmacology medicine and manipulation and MD's trained in surgerical medicine. However, within the last 10 yrs both schools have about the same kind of training. So their is not much difference between DO's and MD's both have to go through similiar training and both are in the same kind of residency programs. My preference would be MD for surgery but that is just me.
  7. Typically 10-14 days (I've had 5 HT). Unless you have just crown work-- then you can comb your hair back to cover it (let front grow out before surgery) Then I would say 3 days.
  8. I'm hearing some good things about Dr. Lehr. I spoke to a cosmetic surgeon who has an excellent reputation with the rich/famous in Beverly Hills and his name came up as a honest, good up and coming doctor. Who knows, maybe in 10 years he will be at Hasson/Wong/Shapiro level?? Time will tell.
  9. Take the advice from these experiences. You shouldnt have a problem of consolidating scars, given enough recovery time. I myself, have mutliple scars- stacked- that now after 15 years is starting to give me problems which I will have corrected/consolidated at the end of the year with a final HT.
  10. fyi MSM is only $12 for 1,000 mg of 300 capsules at Costco and Sam's. After only 5 weeks on MSM 2,000mg a day, I've notice a difference which I can not believe. They need to market this stuff for hairloss,thickness-- it doing great for me. Thanks Rugger for telling us about this.

  12. Normally, HT hair will start growing in at 3 months then continue up to 12 months-- some up to 18 months but most will be in at 12 months
  13. Yes, you can consolidate strip scars with more procedures-- you must have decent laxity-- maybe 12 months after your HT you can get a 2nd and have no problems.
  14. 3 months off? I would think 6-8 weeks would be adequate. Then when you start back- cycle your weeks-- starting with light weights/high reps, then couple of weeks with 10-12 reps, then couple weeks with 8-10 reps, then a week with heavy 5-8 reps. Then you can get back to your normal routine.
  15. You want to take at least 2 weeks off from workouts. Then when you start back, only do light high reps to get the blood back in your muscles without intensity/stress. Then at about the 4 week month, you can slowly get back into your normal routine-- 5th week start with moderate weight, then 6th week adjust accordingly. Your scar can stretch up to 3 months, so you shouldnt try to be breaking any world records or doing 1-3 rep max until then. Pro Body Builders take off 1-2 weeks every few months to "shock the system" and usually take 3-4 weeks going from competition to off-season(putting weight back on).
  16. Just read a Mens Health magazine article in the airport today about the writer's experience with 2200 FU HT by Baumen in FL. THe article was interesting in the fact that the FL clinic which performed the surgery had several new technology/procedures. One was a machine that "pre washed and antibiotic cleaned" your hair prior to surgery. THe second, was a post day follow up with 30 min. in another machine that used Laser rays on the reciepent site to disinfect and speed the healing. Dr. Baumen in addtion to the normal post care treatment of cytograft and saline, he gives out copper peptide lotion to apply which helps healing. The article had these couple of extra things in additon to the normal routine most docs have.

  18. Taking a shower is not a big deal, just put a plastic shower cap over your head to keep water for getting on it the first night. As far as sleeping, if you take your meds like instructed it's not that bad, you have to sleep inclined or sitting up-- I just put 4-5 pillows on my bed--another time I slept in a recliner. Also, keeping ice on the donor area will also help in the discomfort as well as the swelling.
  19. You will be numb regardless of the scar for the first 3-6 month because the nerves have to "reconnect/grow". It isn't a big deal and after the first few weeks you forget about it. Some cases with multiple HT, there can be pemanent numbess just in the strip area, but this is rare.
  20. Several have posted feedback on Dr. Lehr's quality and pricing. fyi - here is his webiste: http://www.hairclinic.com/index.htm

  22. Several posters have said positive things about Dr. Lehr (none negative)-- he probably is an up and comer, newer in the HT--last 5 yrs or so. While searching info, I came across his website for all those you might be interested because of his pricing? fyi--- http://www.hairclinic.com/index.htm

  24. You have a great situation with you donor hair it sounds like. You will need less FU for your crown work than you did for you hairline work because you will have more 3-4 FU's in the crown. I would recommend getting your crown done at the same time you get your 1K hairline touch-up. You can get good coverage with 800-1000 FU on the crown. Good luck and like to see some pics.
  25. iF YOu have good donor hair then a HT can be dense enough to style any way you wish. If your donor is limited some work just on making the hairline natural a comd back. If limited donor, some have HT to cover crown and mid scalp and comb forword (casear-- but this is rare- most comb back). With very limited donor, HT is done to have a side part and comb over -the 'hockey stick".
