Dr Blake, thank you also for the informative post. I am almost at the 4 month mark 3/4/16 surgery. The front hairline is advanced as you mentioned was usual, lot of budding and various stages in temples and crown. "Wirey" type hair at this point. Natural hair is Lt/brown sandy color mixed with some gray. New hairs are several shades darker than any other hair on my head and no gray?? You can see where the new hairline meets the old in the picture. Any idea why? Hopefully this will blend eventually.

Help me to get rid of my anxiety
robc replied to NAVI's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
Get a Hairmax laser comb and follow the instructions does about the same thing as the Fin for me, also keep using the minox. I also heard there are topical DHT blockers, don't know much about. All this said wish I would have started the Fin earlier. No sides for me. -
I know in a lot of Latin American companies the smaller boutique hotels will give a nice discount for cash. I just run to the local bank a day before leaving and get cash to pay them. The fees are not much. I would never carry that much cash around or have it in the room

High percentage of bad transplants?
robc replied to bencar's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
Hard to verify the statistics mentioned, but it wouldn't surprise me that a lot of HT patients are not happy. Lot of people on this site want to throw money at the problem with a HT then don't even want to make the effort to use minox at night. I'm not an expert in the HT industry, but I have a lot of experience in other businesses and marketing. A good amount of HT's are probably being done by the big firms doing the most marketing in their area or maybe offering discount pricing. Are these the best HT firms? Remember the post from the guy who was going to sign a contract with one of the national HT firms. Never saw so much screaming "DON'T DO IT". I did a consult with one firm doing a lot of marketing in my area. They had the Artis system and I wanted FUE, they tried to switch me to FUT and told me they would only do 1500 grafts and i would need to come back in about 1 year if I wanted more. I had seen the before/after pictures they showed me during the presentation on other websites but they where not posted on their page. Plenty of shady operators in this industry, thus the strong need for a forum like HRN. -
Minoxidil after FUE - or not? (cheating...)
robc replied to fimax's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
I'm 15 weeks post op and I just started back using minox. I have light skin and it was really making the redness worse. I doubt it will make a huge difference, but it can help with growth after HT I understand. -
My plan to go from Norwood 2 to 0
robc replied to bdp31770's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
I think you are smart to start a program now, a lot less $$ in prevention than a HT cure later. Once a day minox should be fine and about 1 mg fin as others suggested. I'm a big believer in the laser comb, really helps lower DHT and improves the health of all your hair and scalp. Works as well as the Fin for me. One time investment no brainer. -
Yes John, I have been on your site a number of times and your chronicles as well as this site where instrumental in my HT decision! So you know your efforts are helpful to others. I did mention all of this to Dr Vories and he encouraged me to post results here, although I know a lot of folks here are wanting to see "rock star" looking hair which wasn't really what I was after. Anyway, he said my skin was very healthy and the grafts where packing nicely so looking forward to sharing my progression.

10 week update: attached pictures taken from a few days ago. I think the majority of hairs have broke through the skin and are in some stage of growth. Seems like I'm ahead of the curve based on pictures from others at this stage. I try to eat well/ lot of foods with Keratin, also biotin supplements and laser comb 3x week. Front hairline seems to be ahead of the crown from what I can tell.

I would first like to thank all of the HT nerds on this site that helped me take the plunge and do this back on 3-4-16. I'm 56, been losing hair since I was 19, started Minox when it came on the market in late 80's, I do think this slowed my hair lose. Started fin/ and laser comb/ Nizoral about 2007 and hair lose has been stable since. I have had a great life so far business/personal, in spite of less than a full head of hair. My wife of 20 years was against doing the HT ( do other things with the money ). I checked in to HT a little in the past but the scalp cutting and downtime was a turn off. Learned about FUE back in December, went to consult with two local docs in the ATL area. One was a total joke and both seemed to want to push me into FUT either via price or other marketing, did an online consult with Dr Vories, felt very comfortable with him being an FUE only specialist, answered all my questions and had a lot of good reviews and before after photos to view. My goals are likely different than a lot of younger guys, I really wanted to avoid over dramatic results and call a lot of attention to my head. We decided on lowering the hairline about one inch and peppering in 1k grafts on the crown on 2 k grafts on the front hairline and temple areas. Dr Vories HT process is pretty well documented on the site, so I won't go into a lot of detail. The 3k grafts was his one day max with two techs processing and counting the grafts. My hair is medium texture, he used a .85 mil motorized punch to score around the donor hair and pulled them out individually. I believe .85 for incisions also. It was a lot of work and focus for Doc and the techs, so I can understand why most doctors don't perform all of the work. I also understand business and I appreciate him truly offering a great service for his clients that he can be confident in and will grow the business and industry in the long term. I'm sure there are many more profitable but lower quality ways to perform HT's. I thanked him for his service and work upon completing the day. Attached some before HT and some pics from 11 days. Look forward to a good result and sharing my progress with you all.

Growth immediately post hair transplant
robc replied to king100791's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
I had the same thing happen. Lot of the hair grew 3-6mm, they started shedding @ about 3 weeks. Only been a couple months, so not sure of the final result yet. -
Your hair looks a lot longer than a #2 in the photos...but you can go to a one or two after the FUE scars heal in about a year or so. I think about a 4 is optimal on this sides while healing. Mine is healing as we speak. Looks like you have had pretty aggressive hair loss up to age 44. One would have to honestly assume you are on the way to at least a NW 6 if you are not on Fin.

Hi Rob, I'm so happy I found this forum, a lot of information out there but this was the most helpful site I found with some serious HT nerds. I'm 56 like yourself, I visited a couple doctors in ATL area and glad I decided to go to SC for Dr Vories. Just had the FUE done 2 months ago. I felt most comfortable with him being an FUE specialist and the amount of good results posted. Take your time and at least do online consults with a few doctors. Glad I did the research, very personal decision. Amazing the amount of poor HT docs out there. I've been on the Fin for 8 years, no adverse reactions for me. I use the hairmax laser comb also....I would at least invest in the comb and use this and Minox, if you are afraid of fin. Otherwise it's like getting liposuction and not changing your diet.

I'm about 6 weeks post op and I have the same redness issue. I did hear that Minox will increase the redness, so I haven't used it yet. Been using the laser comb which some say will help. I heard where one guy went to a dermatologist for V beam type therapy and got good results. I'm all ears if someone has an answer.

If it was 9-12 months wouldn't be too thrilled f I was you, but still early. I see a distinct line where the Dr stopped planting @ the mid scalp, so I would think at some point out could determine the stop and start point in photos, but I don't see it yet. Sounds like you are a slow grower. Not sure of your lifestyle habits, but healthy diet a good multi vitamins and biotin can't hurt. Keep the faith

I work from home and only missed work on the day of procedure. I really worked some that day on the breaks. I do travel to see clients but have been wearing a hat or blue surgeons cap. My pitch is that I had some bad spots on my head that the Dr had to take care of and it doesn't look very good and needs to heal. If they press I tell them pre cancer areas they where worried about. You have to get creative, technically everything that isn't cancer is pre cancer LOL. You can then just wear the blue hospital head cover to work for a few weeks, you are off the hook and won't miss any work unless you want to. I'm one month out from the HT, and I just talked to the lady @ Walgreen a bought some make-up. It makes the redness look 50 times better. IDK, some may think I'm a bad person for this, but the end of the day it's none of their business and I don't want people staring at my head and I don't want my HT to be a topic of discussion. Everyone is different I guess. Hope this helps.
