  1. Strongly disagree that unveiling such a personal and sensitive medical information is just "fair game". Are you kidding me? Surely the doctor can present his side of the case in a more professional manner than character assassination due to a bad review on the internet. Anyone running a business can relate to the frustration of a bad review gone public but this is absolutely NOT the way to counter.
  2. Honestly the healing process was no biggie at all. I really can't stress enough how the scar is almost a non-issue unless of course I shave my head to skin. I'm also an avid weightlifter and only waited 10 days until working out and probably 3 weeks before I went back to heavy. I would imagine if the scar was on the back of the head that the heavy lifting would have bothered it more but as it's on the side and higher up, I didn't notice it much at all. Yes first and hopefully last
  3. I had FUT for 800 though she gave me an extra 100 to make it 900. Scar is hidden on top left quadrant and have to say -I'm still undecided on total results to hairline (some empty spots have me worried at 5 months) but the scar -or lack there for of is really impressive. Just shaved that area to #2 and everyone's digging my hair cut but no one sees the scar
  4. Now this I don't get. There are countless threads where someone is extremely happy with a result of a particular Doctor and often many pages of -"More great work by DR. X" or "he always does fantastic work!" Those posts are never reprimanded for being too general but when a critical post arises it seems to be tightly regulated...? This is a site for the consumers is it not? I don't think anyone here joins with the intention of doctor bashing or trashing reputations. But we need to feel free to share and yes, create our own general consensus of who's good for what and who's not.
  5. Wow, sounds bad man and I'm really sorry that happened to you. I strongly agree that hair doctors need a stronger pre-design plan with their patients rather than the 10 minute before operation time "Is this line good?" after your already medicated. There's really no excuse for that.
  6. Was wondering what are people's experience with their doctors pre-design plan. I found that process to be a little underwhelming in terms of what I expected. Meaning, a few quick lines are drawn (on the operating table) and then was asked -"is this what you want?" It's pretty hard to gauge as layman customer what and how those lines will look out when fulfilled. Is there not digital software that can take your picture and then give you estimated computer imagery of what you can expect with different 'battle lines' and with different graft counts? I'm pretty sure this is standard with plastic surgery for the face -does this software not exist in the hair industry? I see a lot of clients state that they are not happy with hairline after a procedure talking about needing to get another one to either add more density or square/lower the hairline again. I think with better pre-design the first time, it would save many from having to undergo the knife again.
  7. So I'm gonna take a wild guess here and assume the FUT doctor didn't send you a nice AC'ed limo? Lol, happy that you had a good second experience but you should change the title of your thread as it really is misleading. Your telling people NOT to have FUT and go ahead with FUE but you give no information on who the FUT doctor was. You have to remember, not everyone has the option for FUE. My Dr tried and said only 1 outta every 10 was 'taking' for FUE due to my wavy hair nature. My scar (upper left side) isn't noticeable at all even shaved down to a #2, and didn't hurt really at all.
  8. Hey, I'll try to post some pre-ops soon -still trying to figure out the whole face masking thing. I just looked at them and also at that time my doc had me on TRT which seemed to make me look far balder. I was assuming I was a NW 3 but after recently asking my Dr she said she thought I was more of a NW 2. Anyways, my Dr is one of the highly reputed ones promoted here so not a dermatologists. I lived a full state away and couldn't afford an in house consultation so we talked via phone and email. This was a big mistake. I would recommend EVERYONE to meet and talk with their doctor beforehand because when you show up the day of surgery -it's go time! No 15 minute meeting in the office to pre-plan or talk about what amount of grafts go where - the plane has already launched. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking or trashing anyone, just that I was expecting more like "this is how your going to look" video -lol! Would that really be so hard?
  9. @OP: Hmmm, well honestly I don't know. Personally I don't think it looks that extensive and actually think mine looked a bit worse and I went ahead and had 900+ grafts to try and restore a hairline. Im at 4 1/2 months and my opinion of whether its making a difference literally changes from day to day. Some days I really think I see a difference but other days I get scared that not enough was done. One thing that still kinda irks me is that the Dr. just didn't really spend any real time telling me what and what I can't achieve realistically with 8-900 grafts. Although I can clearly see some growth as a thin perimeter, the area behind it looks like it's still thinning though time will tell if the hair put up front will thicken and feather in with the middle region a bit more. Ill start posting pictures at 5-6 months to give a better feel of what was done. Also my hair is more of a wavy/bushy type so the Dr said it will appear to be even more hair. Last irksome complaint I have is that my clinic never took Post-ops......makes it hard to see what exact coverage was done..
  10. Tl/Dr...just kidding man looks great! I agree, the buzz cut looks awesome -proof again that a steady hairline makes a big difference even at the buzz cut level.
  11. @HT_Doc: yes, I was trying to convey that I see this by posting the link that I did in which I could see the forums and moderators actively working to get a bad situation rectified.
  12. Also wanted to state that following cases such as the Dr Humayun Mohmand gives me a lot of faith of how exactly a forum can help a dissatisfied consumer. The doctor came on board and made what seemed to be a very fair offer and did not blame it away (totally) on syndrome x. Win! https://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/166274-hair-transplant-procedure-dr-humayun-mohmand-29th-may-2012-a.html
  13. @Nathaniel: To paraphrase Bill "Get an HT and chill out!" Just kidding, just kidding yall Honestly I share some of Nathaniels concerns namely in that a bad job needs to be called just that "a bad job'. That doesn't mean it's a bad doctor -just that the particular result on that case was not top notch which could be for a variety of reasons. Again, Im a little hesitant about calling every botched job a victim of "X Factor" as that completely absolves the doctor of any responsibility in one fell swoop when in reality-what if that had a less than capable assistant that day/week/year? Surely much can go into what created the ill effect but to me personally, it's all about how timely and effectively and fairly the doctor deals with it. Even the best can have an off day....
  14. No sunken effect at all -and yes, it's just the one side. I generally use Toppik to sort of 'fill 'the front' a bit until more hair grows in but in that one spot I definitely have to use a little more and 'fill the hole'. The other thing is I fight a lot of hormone related problems so my hair quality really varies from day to da -some days my hair looks pretty damn good and healthy with much more volume and strength while other 'bad hair days' I'll get some shedding up front and top and the overall quality of my hair just sucks in which Toppik is required. The bad hair days also seem to effect the quality of all my hair - not just the at risk area. Anyways, big thanks man! Your post gave me a lot of relief and Im gonna just chill for another month at least before I call the torch bearing boys.
  15. Have to agree -Dr. Diep's results there are unlike anything I've seen in terms of the level of baldness (previous). Outstanding!
  16. I'm 3+ months into my hairline procedure (900 grafts) and have the same concern - on my right side above temple region there is an area that seems completely bald while there is visible hair shading below it. This was always my biggest fear of a small graft procedure -that being a bald spot BEHIND the hairline. I've called Dr. Keene's office and they told me it's far too early for any real growth and anything that's showing now I should consider lucky -does this sound right? I've tried taking picture of it to show here but to be honest it just doesn't show up - but in person it is visible. In my mind it's HUGE but in reality it's probably an 1/8 the size of a dime. My hair characteristics are of mixed ethnicity (black/white) so parts of my hair are straighter -namely the back and sides while the top and front have always had that sort of frizzy/curly 'pomp' look to it. So maybe it will be hidden under my mini front fro but it still has me really worried.
  17. Well I hate to be brutally honest but something is just not right here. I looked at dugman's 4 month pre-op and his hair looks better then. The amount of investment we all spend can be tremendous both financially and emotionally and it's vital that we as a community have a standard in which to trust and relay. I'm not stating that's there's no such thing as 'X' factor -but merely that in no profession should there be allowed an all encompassing validation for poor results. Sure, maybe dugman has some unknown genetic factor working against him but is it not also worth mentioning that perhaps a physician of better artistry may have produced better results? Does a patient not deserve more than "you were asleep, you don't know" and possibly more delving into why the results may have turned out so badly instead of *shrug*, "syndrome x". I'll be disappointed in this site if the doctor, failing to present better reasons continues to be promoted. If everyone is a 10, it cheapens those who are truly excellent and trumps up the incompetent...
  18. Am I missing something or are there no pics in which to discuss??
  19. Hehe, I have this also. I should have told my doctor ahead of time as the valium wasn't really strong enough and I did have a brief "freak out" in which I NEEDED to move at some point when my strip was being removed and I started hyperventilating. The assistants calmed me down and within 5 minutes I was good to go for the rest. This response can be tamed but you have to stay on top of it.
  20. Pretty much just fortified the receded areas at 900 grafts. I would have liked for the doctor to have feathered a little more into the tuft but she said it could cause shock loss as the hair there looked too strong -not to me lol! I'm just at my 3rd month and I'm happy because even just the dark shading helps to even the hairline as before, I already have a long forhead and that widows peak was looking pretty bad on me. As per waiting longer -no, but I'm 42 and had probably been able to keep my thinning pretty well hidden by the aforementioned tricks, but in the last year or two, had gotten some pretty mean ass comments (1 from complete stranger about Rogaine -lol) and finally had to admit that my days of trickery were over. So in my case, I should have done it about 4-5 years ago. Looking again at your pics, it's a hard call. Your first pic -your hairline looks totally fine and I wouldn't consider it now. The lower one you can see a slight dig on the left hand side (your right) but it's nothing terrible. At what rate is your hair coming out? If pretty rapid, I would probably go ahead with the procedure -are you on any meds for it?
  21. Are you talking about the donor area or recipient? With your amount of hair you should be able to cover it up pretty well although I had FUT so don't know about the FUE shave down. Although I have wavier hair and slightly more advanced recession than yours, I did the similar thing and grew the area right around my receding temples longer so I could create the illusion that is was full in that area. It became harder and harder so finally had the job done (hairline) and no one that I didn't tell ever suspected a thing. I was back instructing classes with all eyes on me 7 days after the procedure though some days I did wear hat -moreso after shedding. Best of luck, looks like you picked a quality Doc.
  22. Yup, have top admit it's put me at ease as I was worried about my procedure in that the grafted dots did not 'connect' to the hairline fully. But as we can see it meshes in quite well without gaps.
  23. Stick with the high caliber doctors mate -after all, they are cutting into your head -wouldn't you want only the best for that? I almost did Bosley (cause I didn't know better) and my experience sounds similar to yours - very pushy, and in my opinion, rude salestaff using a lot of fear tactics. I then asked them why they are using the same African American model in their ads for the past 10 years -they didn't like that lol. Their prices were also obscenely high and I left feeling utterly deflated. Found this site which led me to Dr Keene, a full State away but highly qualified/accredited etc.. she did wonders with only 900 grafts and I'm only 2 1/2 months in. Good luck to ya -Shapiro seems to be of the highest pedigree
