  1. I had my ht with dr feller. Great doc, great dude! Set up a consultation with him, but also consult with a couple other docs as well.
  2. from all ive researched its wise to stay away from bosley. a ton of guys on here who have had botched procedures from them...
  3. In a fut, or at least mine, the donor area is shaved, excised, and closed back up. An inch and a half should be enough hair to Cover the scar however I am not 100% sure...
  4. Hey man, it's definitely a plus that your being pro active about your hairloss. The sooner you act the better. However, just be prepared to have fin keep your hairloss at bay as opposed to regrowing a full head of hair. I was on it for years and just had a procedure in march for 1300 grafts. The best news is that ht have become extremely refined as of late and will most likely continue to get better, so if/when you're ready for one you should have a great chance at having a good head of hair ( assuming you pick a great doc and keep on meds) The great advantage you do have is your mpb is occurring at a time where you have many viable options. So, stop stressing and go enjoy life!
  5. I have been using heat products at very high temperatures extremely close to my temples and bangs, sometimes the flat iron would even touch my scalp at over 300 degrees, and I think this may have greatly facilitated my hair loss - I'd like to ask if this is a valid assumption? Im not too sure this will make mpb any worse, however breakage can occur thus making your hair appear thinner. Also, you got a good amount of wavy hair, if your straightening it, it will look thinner as opposed to what your natural hair is. I would def stop using flat irons and stick to using a hair dryer for now. good luck! p.s. i started fin 8 years ago and im all good as far as sides...start off with a low dosage and see if it has a negative effect
  6. Not too sure but I think Tom Brady might have had a ht
  7. I would just be careful as to what weightlifting exercises you choose to do...if you feel any tension on back of head while performing certain excercise than don't do it. But things like bicep curls, push ups, pull ups, I can't imagine it would stretch a scar that badly. I would consult with your dr fist though
  8. . However, it will take some patience as you wait for your "new" hair to come in. Hope this helps, All the Best, Michael being 3 months post op, im beginning to realize this is the hardest part of the ht process. far and away, lol!
  9. hey man, im over 3 months now and im just about back to normal minus a minor spot of numbness in the back of donor area. you should start to feel better day by day but rest assured the tightness will go away eventually but its gradual
  10. I would definitely consult with t&d and feller, but I feel I should tell you upfront that dr feller will definitely suggest strip for you. Not saying he wouldn't do fue, but I originally wanted fue and after 2 consults with him I went with strip...also there is a guy named spex on here who is far more knowledgable than I am, he can definitely give you sound advice. Good luck man!
  11. Crickets.....I'm sure there's many reasons why one might choose a system over a ht, personally I can't imagine why but different strokes for different folks
  12. try searching dr. lindsey. i think hes based in dc? i know he posted a case a couple weeks ago with 2 patients who were african american
  13. Shampoo, I guess I exaggerated a bit. I have gone out a number of times .. I just haven't been as socially active as i usually am. I live in manhattan and have been used to going out 4 nights a week or so, an I didn't really wanna keep going out as much cause I was wearing a hat all the time, so I'll lay low for a bit cause I figured my friends would wonder why I'm always wearing a hat when I never used to. But don't get me wrong, I have been doing essentially everything I always do, working out, drinks, dinners, movies, allman brothers concert, nba games...Just with a hat on. I think there are a number of photos and patients who can pull off concealing a ht very well. For me there was no way...not trying to be a bummer, just giving my honest opinion. But I'm at 3 months now and things are getting back to normal and hairline is starting to come in...I'll gladly take 3 months off in exchange for not obsessing over my hair anymore:)
  14. We all have these thoughts, or at least I think we all have them. I was a total nervous wreck, and the night before I wanted to call the whole thing off and just let nature take its course. I'm glad I didn't. Unfortunately it's IMO, hard to conceal a ht if recipient area is shaved, especially if you have a fair amount of hair. I, like you, had a good amount of hair pre op. people at my work, family, friends, would certainly be taken a back had I shown up with head shaved and a big line running across the back of my head. I do have the luxury of wearin a hat, so that has helped me immeasurably. and socially I have dropped off the earth for the past couple months. If you can take a good amount of time off that helps too, unfortunately most of us don't have the luxury. I am basically at 3 months and really just now at the point where i feel good about my hair again and not hiding under a hat. Tiny hairs are poking thru and I feel that at the end of the day, this was all worth it. Or at least if my hair continues to grow its a ll worth it because the obsessing over losing my hair really started to get out of control for me. As far as losing more hair, it could happen but I feel with my family history I should be ok and if I need a 2 nd ht I would not hesitate to do it again. I made the whole thing out to be much worse in my head than the reality of it is. You seem to have a great head of hair so I wouldn't worry too much about future loss. Also, you picked a great doc. Chill out, have a beer, don't worry much about it, you'll be very pleased after all this is over and you see hairs start poking thru, trust me!
  15. Congrats man! Great doc you chose and by the look of it you'll probably have an excellent result as you don't really need a lot of grafts at all...
  16. I think the way in which women blow dry their hair coupled with flat irons daily, over time, will cause damage to hair, but like spanker said breakage and damage is different than balding. The way a man will use a blow dryer is not going to cause balding, it may very well damage hair but won't cause mpb.
  17. I started running about 2 weeks after ht, everything seems to be fine...
  18. Awesome bro, congrats on a toppik free existence!
  19. I echo this sentiment. Dr feller to me seems More than fair in my dealings with him and most certainly an honest man and genuinely good dude. I've never met spex personally but all my online interactions with him have been nothing but positive and informative. Always 2 sides to a story...
  20. Dr fellers clinic recommends shampooing and massaging grafts after 5 days or so...
  21. Ive wondered about this myself. I've seen both as well, dr feller shaved my recipient and it certainly made me look very strange. However I was told that its difficult to do a dense pack without shaving? If I did not have to shave recipient it would have certainly made recovery easier as I probably could have not worn a hat all the time for the first 3 months but if I get a better end result than its certainly worth it IMO...
  22. Thanx for the response Blake and mattj. I did have a good amount of native hair in the recipient before transplant. I think a good amount of it has grown back and I'm certainly not going to risk results for a temporary tan, I was more curious about average time refraining from sunlight
  23. I'm only 10 weeks out from my procedure with dr feller and while a good amount of the native hair that was in my recipient area seems to be growing in, the past couple of days I've noticed very tiny almost minuscule hairs popping up around hairline...could this be the grafts coming in or is this just native hair growing back? Am I being to enthusiastic? Is it way too early to see small hairs popping up? Also, to whomever can answer, when is it safe to go into the sun without a hat or bandana? I went to the beach this past weekend but felt silly wearing a bandana the whole time, 3 months? 4 months? 5 months? Thanx in advance!
