  1. pictone, thanks for sharing your story. Why don't you post some before and after pics.
  2. the problem is that an HT is permanent. Though it seems like it may be a good idea now to go with a piece if you lose your native hair, you may not feel the same way in 30 years and you dont want to look like a freak then. Why not wear a piece now for a few months, just to see if you could tolerate for the rest of your life? Get a consult with a few HT docs. They're in the best position to advise you after looking at your donor hair and scalp laxity.
  3. Mohammad, Unfortunately at this time there are no coalition docs in India. If you can travel to get your HT done, that is the best option. Here is a link with a similar discussion. http://hair-restoration-info.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/346...151012673#6151012673 Pls pls do your research and don't go to a sub-par doctor. Its very tempting to compromise when there is no doc in your country, but your donor hair is limited and you could regret your decision for a long time. Good luck!
  4. At 19, you must be conservative...that can't be stressed enough.I've never used a piece but I imagine that its a pain. With your first HT, u should address the front and mid sections of the scalp but you need an expert doctor to decide where your hairline should be placed and how many grafts you'll need. At 19, you probably want to re-establish a hairline which hasn't matured yet, which is unrealistic long term. Get on meds, and see a coalition doctor..then do your research on this forum.
  5. Its natural to worry about pain because there a thousands of tiny holes being made in your head! But like everyone else pointed out..the most painful is the anasthetic. After that its all good..don't worry about it..its not bad at all. The post op was surprisingly painfree...i stopped painkillers on day 2.
  6. the truth is you can never tell pre-HT exactly what your density will be like. You'll get some idea based on your donor hair. If you pick a skilled surgeon, your results will look natural with most hairstyles. I've seen a variety of post-HT hairstyles and most look great!
  7. There should be no problem getting it done when you're on a work permit. If you're flying in just for the HT, my guess is you'd need a tourist visa. You won't need to be here for more than a few days.
  8. argh...theres more ...just kidding..i hear you guys..from everything i've read you can't expect to look "normal" until month 5-6. Arrie, just curious why you didnt cut the back hair that was longer? I buzz the sides and back every week so that it looks about the same length as the top.
  9. I agree with Bill that both are important, though short of getting enough of singles, i dont know why anyone would be unhappy with getting more hair for the same number of grafts, if that is indeed how they exist in the donor area.
  10. your scar looks great man! You're healing up nicely! Grow well.
  11. Dr Carman has posted great results and he's an asset to these forums! I think he'd be a good addition to the coalition.
  12. Just wanted to give a shout-out to all the 2 monthers out there! I know what you're going through! This is pretty much the worst part of the process. I've lost most of the new grafts and shockloss has claimed some of my native hair...making it very depressing to look into a mirror . But thanks to this site and the folks who've gone down this road before, I know the I'm a third of the way to some meaningful growth...heck...santa will be bringing me some grown out follicles for christmas . Hang in there all you 2-monthers! check my blog for pics.

  14. Spenny, its completely natural to be freaking out. I started losing my hair when i was about 21 and it really bothered me. See a dermatologist and get some advice. The good news is that you're in the right place. Do your research and you'll have the best tools at your disposal to deal with any potential hairloss (if it turns out to be the onset of MPB).
  15. Good Luck with your surgery. Congrats on taking the big first step on your path to getting your hair back! You're in great hands..you have nothing to worry about!
  16. Its great that you've started doing your research early and even better that you're not doing anything yet without getting on meds! Hair restoration is already very refined and will get even better by the time you're ready!
  17. Congrats on your HT! The next few weeks will bring a mixed bag of emotions but you'll be happy in 6 months! Grow well!
  18. dogbert, don't worry about the shockloss..i saw alot more falling out in the first 10 days and now at 2 months, its not that visible..besides..it will grow back. There are alot of threads about shaving vs not shaving. I had my recepient area shaved, and it looked pretty decent in a month (you can check my blog for pics). With a little dermmatch and toppik I was able to ditch that hat at about 5 weeks.
  19. Its very natural to worry about losing grafts in the first few days...but there's no need to, you're doing great. Its completely normal to be losing the transplanted hairs. In fact the quicker they go, the sooner they'll be back! Grow well!
  20. Congrats Coop! You've been really consistent about updating your blog....thanks for that. You're new head of hair looks great. It has really thickened over the last few months. Great stuff!
  21. wearing a surgical cap should be ok. Remember to try to keep the recipient area moist with your spray bottle. Good luck!
  22. congrats on the transplant. You've got a bit of a wait, but you'll be really happy in a few months. Good luck and grow well
  23. The scabs should be on their way out pretty soon.I too was hesitant to touch my scalp and i think that was part of the reason why i still had scabs at 2 weeks post-op. I continued to apply mineral oil liberally at night to help the crusting resolve in place and every evening i soaked my head in a warm bath for 30 min and followed that up with a shower where i GENTLY worked of the crusting by rubbing in a circular motion. Don't force anything and no fingernails please!
  24. I have read on other forums that doctors do pay a fee to be a part of HTN, and I think thats fair. But what you should really rely on when making your selection , besides the fact that Bill and Pat are meticulous in their choices for recommended docs, are the opinions of independent posters who've gone down this road and know what they're talking about.
