Regular Member Tamagochihandler Posted March 15, 2022 Regular Member Share Posted March 15, 2022 I started to get concerned because I have been applying cold water in the first hair washes after hair transplant. I reviewed my post operative instructions I realised it is written “warm water” and not cold. I was using cold water but not extremely cold because I watched some YouTube video from another HT Dr saying that water should be cold or warm, but more cold than warm. Could cold water hair washes in the first days post op have a negative impact on the HT result?, could cold water damage the grafts in the first hair washes after HT?. Regular Member Tamagochihandler Posted March 16, 2022 Author Regular Member Share Posted March 16, 2022 Many thanks for the answer. Any other feedback or personal experience of cold water after HT during hair wash and its outcome? I am still concerned about it when I think about the vasoconstriction cold water might produce in the just transplanted new grafts with blood flow still not consolidated enough. Senior Member gillenator Posted March 16, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted March 16, 2022 IMHO, cold water washes will not damage grafts nor will it damage blood vessels, Gillenator Independent Patient Advocate I am not a physician and not employed by any doctor/clinic. Rahal Hair Transplant
Tamago, One of the first things I always tell mar transplant patients after surgery is to make sure they follow their doctors post offered obstructions. On the flipside however, I sometimes wonder why some instructions have been included. As others have already said, I have no reason to believe that cold water will damage your newly transplanted hair nor will it affect the growth process. I think the point of the instruction for using warm water is to make sure you don't use water that is too HOT. Water that is too hot can irritate or burn the skin, and remove the natural moisture and oils that help keep your skin calm and healthy.

Regular Member Tamagochihandler Posted March 18, 2022 Author Regular Member Share Posted March 18, 2022 Thanks a lot for all your replies and reasonings that came with them. It would be also comforting to read some testimony of someone who used mild cold water or cold water in hair washes after hair transplant and had good HT results. Many thanks again. nks123
They probably recommend that since cold will cause a local vasoconstriction ie reduced blood flow. However, my guess would be that this doesn’t affect the grafts and they just recommend it as a precaution.
Senior Member gillenator Posted March 21, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted March 21, 2022 Even if cold water is applied, the internal body temperature including the blood supply will resume after several minutes.
