Senior Member Hair4Days Posted September 12, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted September 12, 2021 We hear a lot about some people only getting 4k grafts, while some get 7,8k. What specifically defines a great donor area? When calculating how many grafts someone can get from their donor or how much coverage they can expect what are the key variables. Is it more so how thick the hair itself is? Or is it mainly a Donor that doesn’t look transparent or sparse?
Regular Member aKaWonderKid Posted September 12, 2021 Regular Member Share Posted September 12, 2021 now im no expert but I think its how thick the hair is... For example ive got consultation and I'm dreading it as the back is thinning
Senior Member aaron1234 Posted September 13, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted September 13, 2021 Hair shaft diameter, donor density, number of multi-hair follicles, no signs of miniaturization or retrograde alopecia. If all four of those factors are in your favor then consider yourself fortunate. Also for FUT, scalp elasticity is important. 3 Dr. G: 1,000 grafts (FUT) 2008 Dr. Paul Shapiro: 2,348 grafts (FUT) 2009 ~ 1,999 grafts (FUT) 2011 ~ 300 grafts (Scar Reduction) 2013 Dr. Konior: 771 grafts (FUT) 2015 ~ 558 grafts (FUT) 2017 ~ 1,124 grafts (FUE) 2020 My Hair Transplant Journey with Shapiro Medical Group

Senior Member LaserCaps Posted September 13, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted September 13, 2021 Also the size of your head. The only issue - the pattern is also that large. Lastly, a self immune system. This can have a huge impact on candidacy. Patient Consultant for Dr. Arocha at Arocha Hair Restoration. Senior Member Curious25 Posted September 13, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted September 13, 2021 If your supply to demand ratio is favourable. Donor densities of 80fu/cm and above . . Thick hair calibre, HGI of more than 2.5 (higher groupings), larger available donor patterns - allows for higher & lower extractions to take place, favourable head shape (narrow recipient, wide donor), BHT available . . . No retrograde or miniaturisation as was earlier mentioned,
Senior Member yesplease Posted September 14, 2021 Senior Member Share Posted September 14, 2021 I would also add that wavy donor hair augments the illusion of density.

As does a favourable hair colour to skin/scalp colour contrast, i.e. blonde hair on fair skin as opposed to very dark hair on fair skin.
