Hair Transplant Needed, I'm an American who wants to travel abroad, Turkey perhaps

Good afternoon dear knowledgeable forum members!

I'm 44 years of age, was going Norwood 4 before I started minoxidil 18 months ago which brought be back to Norwood 3. Classic M shape balding and the top of my head is not that dense. I was contemplating  a hair transplant since I was 36. Waited 8 years.

I'm now thinking about going to Turkey. Does anyone know the best hair clinic in Turkey? If you think that there are other options please don't hesitate to mention them

Yes I could mention HLC, Dr Bicer, Dr Pekiner, Dr Keser or Dr Yaman and Dr Demirsoy as the most affordable. Maybe Dr Erdogan (Asmed) if you was to choose the top option.

However why not consider Spain, Belgium, Portugal also ? Even more choice and some really good options ! De Freitas, Dr Pinto, Dr Lorenzo, Dr Feriduni, Dr Villa and Dr Bisanga for example.

Another topic to think about is your budget. When we see your pics we could have an idea of the number of grafts you'll need. But to give you better recommendations, an idea of how much you're looking to spend will help. A $2k procedure is different than a $5k procedure... and $10k and $15k.

Why not look here in the US? There's plenty of great options here.

Because it's a lot more expensive here for comparably similar results. He's likely looking elsewhere for budgetary reasons.

No, I haven't considered Europe, perhaps I should. I would love to hear as much as possible about good clinics out there

Use the search function on the forum and check out some of the results from the Drs/Clinics I mentioned.
Dr Bisanga,  Dr De Freitas and Dr Feriduni are forum recommended.

I know, however if I'd pay 3 times less in Europe and get the same quality, why not do that? I understand that medical liability is another concern but this is where I'm gonna trust the reviews. I think that in USA this procedure is not that well known yet so competition among doctors is pretty much nonexistent because there are not that many hair transplantation specialists in northeast, so the prices are very high per graft.  One more weird fact is that for some reason most USA doctors use the strip method, which is quite outdated.

Yes, exactly. And for some reason I got the impression that in USA they still prefer the strip method and FUE is considered a novelty technique so they charge extra for it. While it Europe it is a widely used method

Could you show some pics of your current situation ? You mentioned Minox but are you not on Fin ? Thanks 🙏

Finasteride will affect my testosterone which might affect my mood but I love my energy levels! D.....I'm  always hyper and happy, going to the gym perhaps it's due to my testosterone. Lower T level is a huge problem for many men, once depression settled in nothing really matters in life. I personally witnessed that. Does finasteride worth it? If T=leves don't drop that much, I mean, I would love to hear your opinion about it

I’m definitely not the best person to talk about Fin. All I can say is it’s literally the only thing that will help retain your hair. Check out some of the forums threads, there are literally hundreds. It’s up to you of course but most people are fine taking it. Others may get sides and then stop or switch to topical.
I don’t take it as I was ok accepting my Norwood 6 and besides it would have had contra-indications with other meds I took.
Its worth considering and definitely researching some more. From what I can see from your pics is you have a limited amount of hair to retain.

If you do consider it then definitely talk to your own Dr/GP.

You should go with a doctor you trust and will be the best fit for you. Money shouldn't be the main deciding factor as you could end up with a result you hate and then half to get repair work done. Hair transplants have been around decades here in the US and there is a lot of competition, so much in fact that you'll see the term "hair mill" used globally since it's such a big business. The strip method or FUT is extremely effective and many top doctors use it to this day. I myself have had 2 FUT procedures with excellent results. There's pros and cons to both FUT and FUE which should be evaluated with whomever you choose to go to. FUT has been around before FUE but that doesn't make it outdated. If you want to see outdated, search Juris Flap and you'll see an outdated method.
