Regular Member fineredhair Posted March 6, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted March 6, 2009 Hi Yall, I was wondering what everyone thought about the fact that after 3 weeks my scabs in the recipient area are still quite substantial. Please check my blog and let me know what you think...

Senior Member Leeson Posted March 6, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted March 6, 2009 I think your being too gentle when washing. I know Rahal patients have scabs longer, but I think they should be gone by now. My Hair Loss Website - Dr. Hasson
Regular Member fineredhair Posted March 6, 2009 Author Regular Member Share Posted March 6, 2009 Ya i agree they should be gone by now. I think i will be a little more aggressive when washing as compared to being extremely gentle. One more question though, does it have a negative impact when the scabs are present for longer periods of time or is it just a cosmetic thing???? Regular Member Yogi's Dad Posted March 6, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted March 6, 2009 I had a few scabs up until week 6. I was a "gentle" washer as Leeson queried. By looking at your JPEG, I'm guessing that you've been washing too gently. You do have a lot of remaining scabs. At week 6, I called my clinic and was told I could have been washing more vigorously after day 7-10. You might do the same - call your doc. At any rate, a couple of good washes at week 6 and my remaining scabs were gone.
Senior Member bullitnut Posted March 6, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted March 6, 2009 know how you feel bro mine took a while to go too, i was advised to let my head soak under the shower for a good twenty mins to get those babies nice and soft before shampooing, i did this and the little swines soon came off best wishes bn 2 poor very poor UK ht's 2 world class repairs with Shapiro Medical Group original thread http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.co...d.php?t=134995 Dr Paul's procedure http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=1710 Dr Ron's procedure http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=1128
Senior Member Jotronic Posted March 6, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted March 6, 2009 First and foremost you should contact Dr. Rahal's office and see what they say. Each clinic has different guidelines and time tables but that of your current clinic is the most important. Regular Member fineredhair Posted March 6, 2009 Author Regular Member Share Posted March 6, 2009 I just talked to Adrian at Dr Rahals and he reassured me this is normal. Also told me to put a wet towel on my head for 20 minutes or so. Its become apparent that Dr Rahals post op instructions for washing is much less vigorous than most... Thanks! Senior Member canadian_buba Posted March 6, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted March 6, 2009 FRH I agree with your comment. For a Rahal HT your on track! It took me around 3-4 weeks to lose the scabs. Let your body deal with things its own way, around 4 weeks start to gently push down on the scabs with the pads of your fingers. This will help them break apart and fall off! Good luck! cb Canadian_buba 3500 Grafts Dr. Rahal Jan 12 09 My Hair Loss WebLog
Bill - Seemiller
fineredhair, Whereas the majority of clinics have postoperative instructions that involve gently working the scabs off in the first 10 days, Dr. Rahal's clinic does not. What you are seeing is perfectly normal at 3 weeks since his instructions include leaving the scabs alone. Best wishes on restoring your hair, Bill
Senior Member dakota3 Posted March 6, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted March 6, 2009 Without even looking I knew you were a Rahal patient. There is just something about the scabs that are so uniform with his patients. I wonder why that is??? You are gonna be psyched in 8-10 months.. Senior Member Clint69 Posted March 7, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted March 7, 2009 My scabs were exactly the same. They were all off by week 4 but most of them fell between week three and week four. Good luck, now the wait begins. My Hair Loss WebLog
Regular Member Howzer28 Posted March 8, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted March 8, 2009 You may want to take a look at the post/thread on Saline Spray. There is quite a discussion going on about keeping the area moist to lessen crusting and reduce scabbing. At this point in time, it is more-than-likely to gentle of washing, however it may still help to keep the area moist. I spray with a spray bottle with warm water to remove the blood and crusts. After my morning shower I apply mineral oil to keep the grafts moist and the same thing with my evening shower. This reduced the scabbing dramatically and removes blood and the yuck stuff. My first transplant I kept the area dry as instructed (except for the showers), but I seemed to have crusts/scabs for a much longer time. As of today I'm 10 days post op with Dr. Gabel on my 3rd transplant and my crust and scabs are all about gone.
Dr. Glenn Charles
3 weeks is a long time to still have scabs. No matter which hair transplant surgeon performed your surgery. There is a good chance that you are not washing aggressively enough. At this point you really cannot hurt a graft. The follicles should be safely healed below the skin. Still the best plan is to contact the Doctor that performed your surgery and ask them what you should do. Regular Member Ringo Posted March 11, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted March 11, 2009 Dr Feller's instructions had me gently washing with my fingertips the third night. MHR suggested the 6th night after HT, and I was skeptical about just 3, but confirmed with the office. They said no nails on the scalp, and just use common sense. I have NO scabs at one week, just shedding white skin flakes, and my scalp feels pretty darn good considering what it's just been through . I have posted new pix if you'd like to check it out.
