  1. I’m ecstatic! I just had SMP aka tricopigmentaion done by Dr. Steven Gabel on my god-awful strip scar from a different doctor, who shall remain nameless. The results of Dr. Gabel’s work went beyond what I could have hoped for in the FUE and SMP process. It was super quick too! Take a look at the pictures yourself! I also had FUE of 605 grafts (hence the darker red circles around the scar in the pics). He really wanted to make sure that the FUE process didn't thin me out to much (this is my 3rd), but that I also got what I needed for the transplant. He did a very good balancing act in my opinion! I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Gabel or his staff. This is my third procedure with Dr. Gabel (two strip with a scar revision and one FUE). I always feel welcomed and there is a homey nurturing feeling when you visit. His staff takes great care of you and the instruction booklet is top notch! Even for what seems a seasoned hair transplant pro like myself, I refer to the booklet often. For me, I keep coming back to Dr. Gabel because I know it’s going to be done right and look good. Isn't that what we all want? It’s a 5 ? hour flight from where I live on the east coast to Portland, Oregon, but well worth the travel involved IMHO. This new SMP he is doing is really fantastic! I just feel like he is always staying abreast of all that is hair restoration…Heck, he has been doing hair restoration for like 12 -14 years!
  2. Yea, and he is down to earth and laid back and he get's so excited about his work! A Doc that loves what he does...wow! That's refreshing. Wizard I was reading your post and thought I'd post some photos of my own. Here is the link. http://hair-restoration-info.c...66060861/m/590109284 I'm pretty happy with the results!
  3. Hey Crosby, I'm in your age category and I got a HT. I have also been taking Propecia and have noticed regrowth...my receeding hairline was similar to yours too. I just posted pics about my process tonight. I didn't go to Dr. Shapiro, so I can't comment on his work, but Dr. Gabel did an outstanding job and he is a pretty cool guy. Even flew up to Seattle from Portland to take out my stiches. Here are where my pics are posted. http://hair-restoration-info.c...66060861/m/590109284
  4. I've had three transplants. The first go-around was with a different doctor, but then I found Dr. Gabel. It wasn't until today when I was comparing and contrasting that I was like 'WOW, what an improvement!' Dr. Gabel's work has been impressive. I had two transplants for my thinning and receding hairline and then I had a crown transplant. I'm 28 now, but was 25 when I started everything. Is it all of my hair back and I look like I was 18 again??¦no. But compared to what I would have today, I'm very pleased! VERY pleased. I think you will notice a big difference too. The before pictures are before I had anything done, not one hair touched on my head. The after pictures are after all 3 procedures. I'm happy with the way it has turned out, what do you all think? 1st-Jun '05 1,700 2nd-Jun '07 2,400, Dr. Gabel 3rd-Mar '09 1,700,Dr. Gabel http://www.gabelcenter.com/index.htm I started losing my hair when I was 18. I had my first transplant at 25, second at 27 and third at 28. My last two procedures were very successful. Additionally, I have been on Propecia since April 2007 and have noticeable re-growth.
  5. I've had two of my 3 transplants with Dr. Gabel. I too am in the military and am conscious of how my hair is and of the resulting FUT scar. His sewing work is great! His staff is friendly and takes care of your pre-op, op and post-op needs. I felt in good hands. What really took me back however was his willingness to fly from Portland to Seattle and take out my stitches. Like I said in my other posts, I am sure he gets a tax write-off, but geeze, it's still a pretty awesome service and it saved me money not having to go back to Portland or find another doctor. Oh and if you do choose Dr. Gabel - eat the Mexican food for lunch - AMAZING!
  6. I had my 3rd transplant now 2.5 weeks ago. My first transplant wasn't all too impressive (out of Northern California). But I have been extremely impressed with Dr. Gabel out of Portland, Ore. (actually Hillsboro). He has a great staff (he and his staff put up with my iPod and it's musical content for 6 hours -- that's a plus in my book-- haha), he cuts his own blades, so they are the right size and it reduced the bleeding as compared to my first transplant. His office also provides a great instructional book (which I have used a bazillion times), and he even flew up to Seattle to take my sutures out and no additional cost. Which is GREAT because I live in Seattle ??“ you can tell when someone likes their work and when someone just wants your money. I'm very excited about my hair and it's nice to now look my age (that would be 28 ??“ which now explains my musical taste! Lol)!
  7. I haven't had FUE, but I have had FUT. I didn't want to do my 3rd procedure as an FUT, I wanted to do an FUE. But after talking with Dr. Gabel it made sense not to do FUE for a couple of reasons. One, FUE doesn't yield as many graphs at once so I would have needed a couple of FUE procedures. Second, not only would I have the strip scar, but I'd have hundreds of little scars (two kinds of scars didn't interest me). Third, FUE typically costs more and four, this was the last transplant I need. In a year or so I plan to go back to Dr. Gabel and have a scar revision. Reduce the scar and then I just have one scar to contend with. In the end that was the better decision for me. Give the Doc a call. He performs both FUE and FUT and he is a laid back guy??¦he will tell ya what's up!
  8. I picked-up a U shape airplane pillow at Wal-Mart for $6.88. Can't beat the price! Anyhow, my first two procedures I slept in a recliner chair to keep upright and the airplane pillow helped protect the graphs and prop my head to reduce swelling. This last transplant I propped 3-pillows again the back of the hotel bed and then used the airplane pillow to prop my head further and to prevent from rolling around. Also, keeping your head elevated and applying cold packs several times a day for 15 minutes to the forehead and temples for the first couple of days will drastically reduces your swelling. The little airplane pillow is worth its weight in gold!
  9. Seattle may not be your best choice. I'm from Seattle and after meeting with several docs in Washington and California, I went with a doc out of Northern California for my first HT. I wasn't overly impressed with the result. After doing a better research job, my next two transplants were with a doc out of Oregon, his name is Dr. Gabel. His two transplants were pretty damn good, especially compared to my first. The thing that impressed me the most was this guy has a plane and he freakin' flew from Oregon to Seattle Boeing Field to take out my sutures both times! Now that's service. Of course I'm sure he gets to write it off, but hell it didn't cost me anything additional for the service. I'm happy with my results too and I didn't have to hang around Portland (Not saying anything is wrong with Portland) but I'm a Seattleite. Oh and he also did my consultation over the phone and was just about on target.
  10. You may want to take a look at the post/thread on Saline Spray. There is quite a discussion going on about keeping the area moist to lessen crusting and reduce scabbing. At this point in time, it is more-than-likely to gentle of washing, however it may still help to keep the area moist. I spray with a spray bottle with warm water to remove the blood and crusts. After my morning shower I apply mineral oil to keep the grafts moist and the same thing with my evening shower. This reduced the scabbing dramatically and removes blood and the yuck stuff. My first transplant I kept the area dry as instructed (except for the showers), but I seemed to have crusts/scabs for a much longer time. As of today I'm 10 days post op with Dr. Gabel on my 3rd transplant and my crust and scabs are all about gone.
  11. I've had three transplants. The first go-around was with a different doctor, I didn't use a spray and my head crusted (it was kind of gross with blood and other gunk), which made it more difficult transitioning back to work (the whole trying not to let anyone notice deal). My perception was also a longer healing process, itchiness, redness ??“ I looked like I had a disease and being 25, that isn't a good thing. My last two transplants have been with Dr. Gabel, whom recommends spraying the transplanted area. Now I didn't follow his directions as prescribed, I cut down on spraying the transplanted area as the crusting subsided ??“ but of course that's the purpose, so I felt it was OK. Anyhow, I personally feel my head is more aesthetically pleasing and crusting has substantially subsided. I'm 10 days post op from my 3rd transplant and it's looking pretty darn good. Sutures are out. Now's the hard part is waiting for the things to grow!
