How much donor hair available.

Depends, FUE or FUT? On average FUE is around 5-6k, few can exceed that number without looking moth eaten.

If I showed a picture of my donor area would you be able to guesstimate?

Sorry can help on that, not a professional in this area, just a man armed with a little google-fu posting what I found. There are some doctors and clinic reps, senior members that post around here that should be able to give you some ball parks if you provide pics.

Just did another search and found this from one of the clinics with an excellent reputation here:

At the time of this writing this subject is very controversial but most physicians believe that one can get more grafts with Exclusive use of Strip FUT (6000-9000 grafts) than Exclusive use of FUE (4000-5000 grafts). In my opinion the potential for getting the most grafts out of a patient exist when using both techniques together.

💯 I tapped out on FUT after about 6,800 grafts.  On to FUE now.  @anon707 It all depends on the individual really.  A picture would help, but we'd still just be ball parking it.

Dr. G: 1,000 grafts (FUT) 2008

Dr. Paul Shapiro: 2,348 grafts (FUT) 2009 ~ 1,999 grafts (FUT) 2011 ~ 300 grafts (Scar Reduction) 2013

Dr. Konior: 771 grafts (FUT) 2015 ~ 558 grafts (FUT) 2017 ~ 1,124 grafts (FUE) 2020

Be great to get a doctor's answer on this Q. We all know lots of factors (laxity, head size, donor density) play a big role but someone with average donor density, average laxity and average head side what would the average full utilization of FUT technique followed by max FUE get a person to in terms of lifetime maximum donor?

From all I've seen on here and around - I'm going to guess:

FUT = c.6,500

Follow on FUE = c2,500

Total: c.9,000 max

Thoughts?

@pre-screened Those numbers look closely to what I'll end up with, maybe a little bit more than 9,000 grafts when all is said and done.  Of course, everybody is different.

@anon707 Looks like you have great donor characteristics and virtually no crown thinning.  How old are you?
