Regular Member 147break Posted October 27, 2019 Regular Member Share Posted October 27, 2019 Hey guys, I've just signed up to this forum but I've been lurking here for a while and through the patient reviews I've decided on a doctor and booked my surgery for the 7th January :) I'm looking at pictures of my donor area and I'm worried about a thin patch in the middle, what do you think? August 2018 - Grade 1 shave. Note that this is when I stopped taking finasteride after 18 months and shaved my head January 2019 - I believe this is a grade 2 on the back and sides September 2019 - Grade 2. I started taking finasteride again in June 2019 Let me know what you think and if you think I have any reason to be worried about the outcome of the transplant. Thanks! Senior Member CosmoKramer Posted October 28, 2019 Senior Member Share Posted October 28, 2019 Hi Looking at your photos, the area you are concerned about does seem not as dense as the surrounding area but if the surgeon you chose does a good job with extractions spread out throughout the lower area and sides then you should be fine. Any males in the family with deep crown loss? One grandad has quite low crown loss but not as deep as the thinning looks in my photos (dad's side). He's also 86 though, and had a fair amount of hair until after he turned 50 and it went downhill. The other grandad died in his 60's but at that time he had a reasonably thick NW6 with a high back and sides (mam's side). My dad is 52 and NW4 with a bit of diffuse thinning I'm just puzzled with mine as it gets thicker above the little thin patch. I suggest consulting with a local hair transplant surgeon so the donor can be examined under high-magnification. I’m a paid admin for Hair Transplant Network. No unfortunately I'm travelling to the surgeon so I'll have to see what he says when I arrive. From what I've read though he is an ethical doctor and he has seen the last photo in my original post and hasn't said anything. He recommended 3000-3500 grafts to cover the front and add density to the rest of the top but maybe he will suggest only doing the front and taking fewer grafts using only the thicker part of the donor or something. Could provide some very valuable insight to see what exactly is going on there and if there is indeed miniaturization going on. It's always best to visit a few surgeons anyway and getting several opinions, so even if you don't use them as your surgeon, their input could be valuable. You don’t have to get a procedure with any surgeon you don’t feel comfortable with, but I would definitely pay him a visit, he has the tools to check for miniaturization. It dips down very far. If that hair is thinning than it will lower the amount of possible grafts that could be safely extracted. It could be a bad haircut, bad lighting.
