Senior Member JustOne Posted December 5, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted December 5, 2012 Personally I do NOT thing 2000 is enough if you want a good result . . saying that.... are you currently on finasteride / rogaine and nizoral ? if not , try that for at least 6 months then decide how many grafts you need. Talk to a few different doctors as well.
Regular Member ukmattyc Posted December 5, 2012 Author Regular Member Share Posted December 5, 2012 no iam not on any meds... I have been quoted 1200 grafts too.... weird why would they quote that if it wont be enough
Senior Member agenteye Posted December 5, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted December 5, 2012 Hi Matty- I would have to agree that 1200 grafts isn't going to do much for you, but I guess it depends on what you are trying to accomplish with the restoration, and to what degree you want to restore your loss.?! I also had deeply receeded front scalp/temples.....but I also had a balding crown. I had 4700 grafts to replace most of that....and will still most likely require a bit of work in the future. I am only a couple weeks out from my transplant, so too early still to tell what kind of results I am going to see! Anyhow, you received good advice above in that you should definitely get a consultation from SEVERAL doctors......never go with just one. I believe I saw where you had already booked your restoration for a Hair Institute in Colorado....and I would encourage you to do some more research before you jump the gun on a procedure. Get started on the meds, and give yourself some time to see if it improves your look....and then go from there! You'll be happy with your results so much more if you plan well and have reasonable expectations on the outcome! The guys here are all very experienced, and have a wealth of knowledge....so reach out to the members here if you ever have doubt or need advice. I dig your tattoos by the way.....I'm very into ink here, and am just getting underway on some serious pieces myself! =) Best of luck on your decision....and let us know what some of the other surgeons say after your consultation with them......online consultations with photos work just as well as visiting the clinic, so keep that in mind when you're narrowing down your list of potential physicians! You should never let location be a deciding factor in your final decision...... Senior Member JustOne Posted December 5, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted December 5, 2012 I know man , its a very strange world of hair restoration . Never go with the first doctor you meet, do ALOT of research on all of your options . This forum has pretty much all you need to know about treatments , transplants and the future of hair restoration ... blah blah blach ect. But i still stand by getting on meds first . the big 3 , wait 6-12 months take before and afters and all that .
Senior Member Cant decide Posted December 5, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted December 5, 2012 Depends on your goals but I happen to think 2000 will be enough. Senior Member Icecreamman Posted December 5, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted December 5, 2012 I had 1350 grafts and had way less loss than you. I think 2000 is minimum for yoh
Senior Member 1978matt Posted December 5, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted December 5, 2012 Had a look at your photos. You're still quite young so there's a high probability that frontal tuft will erode further. With no meds I think 2000 would be about right because you would need to keep sufficient donor in the bank for a second HT. A conservative, but not overly dense boost around the hairline could work quite well but you may beed to come back in 5-6 years time. Try the meds for 6 months as this could alter your game plan. 4,312 FUT grafts (7,676 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2013 1,145 FUE grafts (3,152 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2018 763 FUE grafts (2,094 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - January 2020 Proscar 1.25mg every 3rd day
Senior Member hairthere Posted December 5, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted December 5, 2012 If you plan to stay with that hairline I'd say 2k grafts could do the trick. If you want a more aggressive hairline you will need at least 3-4k. Keep in mind that your doctor will want to compensate/take into account future loss, which in your case is inevitable and could happen soon. Senior Member chrisdav Posted December 5, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted December 5, 2012 I agree with what Hairthere has said. Have some consultations. 2 poor unsatisfactory hair transplants performed in the UK. Based on vast research and meeting patients, I travelled to see Dr Feller in New York to get repaired. Regular Member capa Posted December 5, 2012 Regular Member Share Posted December 5, 2012 your hairloss pattern is similar to mine.I was said I have 6000-7500 grafts in reserve for fue and I'll need at least 2500 + ... for good density on the frontal third by some of the best surgeons in this site.but I'm a bulky guy and have big head so I think 2500 grafts would be enough for you
Senior Member Dr. Ricardo Mejia Posted December 7, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted December 7, 2012 A lot depends on how aggressive you want to lower your hairline and if you are trying to blend into the middle. you can utilize a simple mathematic formula by dividing the total number of grafts by an estimated square centimeter area that you want to transplant. For example 2000 grafts into 100 cm squared is 20 grafts per cm squared but not as good as 40 grafts per cm squared if you pack them into an area of 50 cm squared. To get an accurate estimate to compare what you are being told, calculate the area you are trying to fill in. Hope this helps. Senior Member s2thoudriver Posted December 7, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted December 7, 2012 Your hair loss is slightly worse than mine was. I had 2,800 grafts, so you'll be looking at 3,000 + for a good result. 2800 FUE, Istanbul
