Senior Member hair_me_out Posted December 17, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted December 17, 2009 But you want to take the chance for more hair loss and being "done for"? Give it a shot. Many here take it without any problem at all. My Hair Loss Website - Hair Transplant with Dr. Hasson
Regular Member Obie one Posted December 17, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted December 17, 2009 Hi Kozakow- You are far from done for my friend. If you want to see someone who's done for, then you could have taken a look at my scalp several years back (Norwood 6)as well as some of my other fellow baldies. It looks like you are starting to thin a bit but not bad. I wish to God I could be in your shoes. Right now, you have baldness by the rear end. If I would have known about Propecia back in 1998, believe me, I would have started on it immediately and wouldn't have had to restore my head with transplants. Although, I'm glad I did. My suggestion is this, go see a highly recommended trasnplant doc or your family doc and start on Propecia immediately. Look to set up an appointment not yesterday, not tomorrow, TODAY! Quit listening about all of the nasty side effects. Everyone's body is different. You will most likely need to see how you respond to the meds. Worse case scenerio is your body doesn't like it. If this happens, then just stop taking it and get on Rogaine. I used to use Rogaine but it's a real pain as you can't get your head wet or sweat for a certain time period after application. It can also irritate your scalp if you have sensitive skin. My advice, start with Propecia. Much easier.
Senior Member Sparky Posted December 17, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted December 17, 2009 I've been on Propecia since 2002 with zero side effects. My Hairloss Website http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=2198
Regular Member Kozakow Posted December 17, 2009 Author Regular Member Share Posted December 17, 2009 I get that it is a low chance, however I am not willing to take it. Thanks for all the help guys. So forsure male pattern baldness than?
Senior Member T.C Posted December 17, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted December 17, 2009 Cant do any permanent harm to try it.My view before was against having to take a pill for ever and as it turned out I got sides and take a quarter of the recommended dose with decent results so far.Rogaine is not as good as Propecia. Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted December 17, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted December 17, 2009 Your thinning is definitely not 'end stage,' as you previously proclaimed. Like others have said, get on finasteride and/or minoxidil and you should see some noticeable difference in the region where you are suffering from miniaturization and loss. You seem young, and I think it is great that you are catching this is the early phases and controlling the issue. You can definitely also meet with a recommended hair restoration physician to go over your options, have them better map out a treatment plan, and discuss a transplant in the future if your loss came to that point. Good luck. Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted December 17, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted December 17, 2009 Oh and one more comment ... I think the blunt answer you were looking for, with regard to your question - 'how much time do I have left,' isn't possible to give. People progress at different rates, coverage is easier to obtain with different caliber, texture, and color of hair, etc. It's not a simple, 'you have X months,' type of question. Regular Member Kozakow Posted December 17, 2009 Author Regular Member Share Posted December 17, 2009 thanks alot for the input. I think i am going go down to shoppers drugmart and grab some rogaine. I just don't want to be bald by the time i am 30, i don't think i won't mind as much at 40 or w/e, i can just buzz it off and live with it. Any input just best guess if i will bald in the next 3 years or am i looking at a longer time frame.Family note- my grandpa on my moms side was bald but still had a fair amout of hair into his 40's 50's and still had some hair on top till he died., my dads hair is thining but he is still in good shape at 60, and my grandpa on my dads side had no baldness, same with great grandpa on moms side. Senior Member aaron1234 Posted December 17, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted December 17, 2009 Propecia and Rogaine Foam would be a great combo for you right now. Propecia usually stabilizes the hair loss. It definitely helped me out. Unfortunately though, I lost my testicles. JK Doesn't hurt to try the medication for awhile to see if it causes any side effects. Bill - Seemiller
Kozakow, Welcome to our community. You still have a lot of hair my friend. In fact, given that you're only in the beginning states of pattern baldness, you'd be a great candidate for medical therapy. Propecia and Rogaine are the two most effective and only FDA approved treatments for hair loss. There's a very good chance they'll help slow down, stop, or even reverse the miniaturization process. Both come with the possibility of some side effects, so be sure to familiarize yourself with them. Personally, I'd consider getting on Propecia, Rogaine foam, and use Nizoral 2% shampoo 2 or 3 times a week. This is referred to as the "Big 3". Hair loss is progressive and unpredictable. How much hair you'll lose and how long it will take without medical treatment can't be determined. However, you can potentially beat your genetics by using these treatments early. All the Best, Bill
Senior Member Marvin Posted December 18, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted December 18, 2009 It's extremely difficult to predict how much more time you have, as you put it. Baldness proceeds at different rates for different people, and even worse you often can't predict how bald you'll get just by looking at relatives. I had two friends in college who started to go bald at the exact same age I did. All three of us looked very similar when we were 19, and now we are each at three different stages of baldness. Senior Member dabuski Posted December 18, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted December 18, 2009 If the idea of Propecia side effects is something you want to avoid,i would suggest you try a combination of Minoxidil and Nizoral shampoo. The Minoxidil will encourage hair growth while the Nizoral may help save your hair follicles from DHT miniaturization. Give the two at least a year of use to gauge any results. By the way in the short term you could use a concealer such as Nano fibers to disguise any thinning.
Regular Member Kozakow Posted December 18, 2009 Author Regular Member Share Posted December 18, 2009 Thanks a lot for all the help guys. I don't really feel like my spot looks bad now.I still have pretty thick hair overall, or so most people say. I have had a lot of people look at, they all say it looks worse in the pics than it does in real life. Most people i had look it don't think its anything. No one in my family history went bald early, everyone has hait except my garndpa on my moms side and he did not start losing it till his 40's.However i would rather be safe than sorry. I think i am going to take your advice and jump on the rogain/ nizoral shampoo, which seems to have min side effects.
Senior Member EpilepticSceptic Posted December 26, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted December 26, 2009 If your hair really starts going (which judging from your pics has NOT happened yet), trust me you WILL be running to the pharmacy to get some propecia!!!!! And you'll want to kick yourself is the arse for not getting on it sooner. When you look in the mirror and suddenly see somone you don't recognize who looks 15 years older, trust me you will not care whether you get sides or not. And thinking that you won't care anymore at age 40 is just BS! That's when life begins for men who have their act together. You will want to look your best. I'm in better physical shape now at age 40 than I was at 25 when I was chubby. Regular Member Kozakow Posted December 26, 2009 Author Regular Member Share Posted December 26, 2009 I hear what your all saying, but after getting a 2nd, 3rd 10th (barber, friends and family) opinion from some people i am pretty unsure if i do in fact have baldness at all. I don't really lose any hair at all, and everyone who looked at it in said it was nothing (after they laughed at me), people who i trust to tell me the truth. I have sadly been looking at every guy i see hairline and crown, and i am starrting to think that is a cowlick to how my hair parts. So at this point i don't want to take a drug for the rest of my life when no one knows what the side effects of long term use are.I think i might have just freaked out more than i should have because my moms grandpa was bald.I think instead of freaking out i should just keep an eye on it till i am sure if it is even baldnes at all. I thank everyone for their advice, really appreciate the input.
Senior Member DDD03 Posted December 26, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted December 26, 2009 Well these people are most likely trying to avoid hurting your feelings. Your pictures show definite signs of thinning. Sack up and give propecia a shot if you are worried about your hair. Or just leave everything to chance...
