Regular Member MrlaidbackAB Posted July 17, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted July 17, 2011 What are you guys opinions about surgeons who do hair restoration having commercials on tv is it a good or bad thing.
Senior Member aaron1234 Posted July 17, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 17, 2011 The only commercials I really see are from Bosley and Hair Club. Stay away from them and all other HT chains. Commercials themselves don't make the clinic bad or good, it's the results. And Bosley and hair club do not produce consistent high quality results. Dr. G: 1,000 grafts (FUT) 2008 Dr. Paul Shapiro: 2,348 grafts (FUT) 2009 ~ 1,999 grafts (FUT) 2011 ~ 300 grafts (Scar Reduction) 2013 Dr. Konior: 771 grafts (FUT) 2015 ~ 558 grafts (FUT) 2017 ~ 1,124 grafts (FUE) 2020 My Hair Transplant Journey with Shapiro Medical Group

Senior Member RCWest Posted July 17, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 17, 2011 The bad thing with Bosley is that you aren't scheduling surgery with a particular surgeon, you are scheduling it with the company. You may get a half decent crew, or you may get a crew in training. Finasteride 1.25 mg. daily Avodart 0.5 mg. daily Spironolactone 50 mg twice daily 5 mg. oral Minoxidil twice daily Biotin 1000 mcg daily Multi Vitamin daily Damn, with all the stuff you put in your hair are you like a negative NW1? Senior Member fortune11 Posted July 19, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 19, 2011 people on this forum know that I am not pre-disposed one way or the other -- while I certainly think its better to go to a specific surgeon you have actual feedback and testimonials on as opposed to a generic "institute", the doctor I went to for my HT2, Ziering, is on TV frequently w ads in California. I only started paying attention to the ads after I had already selected him through a doctor friend's referral. roughly 2 months post op, I am pretty satisfied at this point in the progression (reserving final judgement for when I am atleast 1 year ost op). bosley certainly goes way overboard with mailers, monthly specials, financing deals, etc as if you were buying a car from a dealership. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FUT #1, ~ 1600 grafts hairline (Ron Shapiro 2004) FUT #2 ~ 2000 grafts frontal third (Ziering 2011) FUT #3 ~ 1900 grafts midscalp (Ron Shapiro early 2015) FUE ~ 1500 grafts frontal third, side scalp, FUT scar repair --300 beard, 1200 scalp (Ron Shapiro, late 2016) http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/185663-recent-fue-dr-ron-shapiro-prior-fut-patient.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Senior Member mattj Posted July 19, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 19, 2011 If a surgeon decides that they have the budget to market themselves on TV then it's neither a good or a bad thing, IMO. We are just used to the lesser quality docs doing it. Although it could be said that if the better quality surgeons became more widely known then this could lead more people away from making bad decisions. It could raise standards overall. There, I've said it. The top surgeons in this field have a duty to spend a big chunk of money on a TV commercial. I am a patient and representative of Dr Rahal. Senior Member NEWHAIRPLEASE Posted July 19, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 19, 2011 I think matt is right, WE are just used to the lesser quality docs doing it! If Feller, Konior, Rahal, Hasson, Wong, Gabel, etc started commercials, our opinions of advertising via television would change quickly! Newhairplease!! Whether you hear about a doctor through a commercial or word of mouth, it's their results in restoring hair that matters. I'm skeptical of Bosley and Hair Club because of their practices, not the way they advertise.
Senior Member Jotronic Posted July 20, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 20, 2011 The only thing I can say that was ever positive by a chain clinic TV ad was that I saw one at a particular point in my life that it caught my attention and started to really make me thing of finally getting repair work. Instead of ordering the "free DVD" however I went to Google and the rest is history. The Truth is in The Results Dr. Victor Hasson and Dr. Jerry Wong are members of the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians
