  1. Any way to copy and paste some of the main points of the article here? I went to the link and it was only available to registered members. I'm tired of registering at all these places and getting bombarded with SPAM.
  2. Your best bet is to do a search on this forum (or any other forum you may be involved in) to see if any one has had any experience with this doctor. It seems like this MHR war has been going on forever with every doctor who works for MHR being dumped in the same category regardless of the work that they've done. I'll admit, the marketing strategy that is used by MHR does suck, but there are many decent MHR doctors out there. I've read all of your previous posts, looked at your pictures, and read all the responses from other members of this forum. They've given you some good advice. You're going to have to wait for the results to show up. After five or six months have gone by, I'm sure that you're going to notice some big changes, for the better! Just hang in there!
  3. From what I've been reading on this forum, 50%-60% growth is about right at the six-month point. I'll be at the five-month point in about a week (2nd HT) and I've seen a really nice improvement in just the last month!
  4. It also seems that some surgeons are better known for certain procedures. Some are known for their hairline work, some for crown work, etc. So, it could also depend on the type of procedure a person is getting.

Was that putz Sherida Devine still in it? :-) Those people need to be shot.
  6. Answers to your questions (only my opinions): 1.) I've never heard that shaving your hair short actually makes the hair stronger. Things that MAY help are a good diet, Propecia/Proscar, biotin, geletin, and MSM. 2.) I've never used Rogaine/Minoxidil, so I can't answer this one. 3.) The only things that I know of that have been proven to help with hair loss and/or growth are Propecia/Proscar and Rogaine/Minoxidil. As mentioned in 1.) above, other things that MAY help are biotin, geletin, and MSM.
  7. I find the site very easy to navigate. Lots of great info. You guys did a wonderful job!
  8. I've got some gray at the temples and have been using 'Just For Men'. It works good and I like the way it mixes up. It's quite thick and not messy. If anyone has any other dyes that they feel are worth mentioning, feel free!
  9. WOW! I am extremely impressed with Pat and how this was handled. Good work, Pat! embarrassed1, good luck! I'm sure everything will work out!
  10. I started receding at about 30 years old. It continued to recede for a few more years to a certain point and then it stopped. Got my 1st HT at 43 and then the 2nd this year at 44. I'm guessing/hoping that there won't be any more hair loss. Will there be? Who knows. It's pretty much a crap-shoot when trying to predict future hair loss, but you can use certain indicators to make an educated guess, such as genetics and age. So, the bottom line is that many surgeons will refuse to do an HT on you because of your age. However, if you're gung-ho on getting an HT, there will always be surgeons out there that will do it. Stay on this forum for a few more months and then revisit your desire to get an HT right now. You'll be better informed to make the decision that's right for you, regardless of what that decision is. Good luck!
  11. For me, it seemed like the tightness and numbness lasted nearly a year after my first HT. Got my 2nd HT a little over three months ago and the tightness and numbness is already gone.
  12. The small transplanted hairs will normally fall out, leaving the follicles embedded in the scalp. This happens as the scabs fall off, which is usually after a couple of weeks. However, they can fall out even after the scabs are gone. I believe that you're OK.
  13. Thanks for the personal attack. I'm always impressed with someone who can't have a civil conversation without putting someone down. Keep up the good work. Sorry I hurt your feelings. Geez....
  14. Originally posted by hairworthy:1. How can you tell that your hair loss is "under control"? If you have a miracle way of knowing, please share it with us!!! No miracles! But after a person hits a certain age, looks at their genetics, etc., I think that they should have a pretty good idea of future hair loss. If people didn't have a pretty good idea of their future hair loss, then no one would get a HT for fear of the 'unknown'! No doctor with a bit of ethics will give their patient "what they want", unless they agree it is for the best. I agree. However, if a full hairline is feasible, future hair loss looks minimal, and this is what the person wants, then why do I keep hearing about doctors wanting to do 'mature' hairlines even on them? Are the doctors just trying to cover their a$$e$? Just curious. If they have an UNREALISTIC look in mind, they are indeed going to be unhappy. But that also means they haven't done their research properly. You're right. IF they have an UNREALISTIC look in mind. However, if it is reasonable based on genetics, etc. then that's a different story.
  15. It is normal for many hairs to come off with the scabs. The follicles still remain embedded in your skin and will be dormant for a couple of months. So, yes, it will look like you didn't even have a transplant done and you'll probably wonder if the transplant even worked! Don't worry! After a few months, new hairs will begin to sprout from the follicles under your skin. I had HT #2 about three months ago and some of the new hairs are just beginning to poke through the skin! Can't wait until about month six when the real action should start happening!
  16. I agree. It is so easy for a$$holes out there to prey on people like us. People can say practically anything they want to promote their products. Be very careful.
  17. Ailene, Thanks for the great tips. I just finished doing some research on Biotin and gelatin and they look promising!
  18. Same here. I haven't had a haircut in 5 months and don't plan to for quite a while. However, I'm also having a mid-life crisis and plan to grow it super-long one last time before it all turns gray! :-)
  19. LT, In my opinion, it looks like a good closure and the easiest and cheapest way to solve your problem is to just grow your hair another 1/3 to 1/2 inch in the back. Your hair will still be super short and you can keep the sides cut even shorter than the back. Try this first before forking out more money!
  20. Ailene, How about some tips on how to grow existing hair faster! If hair growth can slow, why can't it be made to grow faster? All I get everywhere is 1/2 inch per month, 1/2 inch per month, 1/2 inch per month..... That's it! I read so much crap on the Internet about secret potions, lotions, salves, etc. Some good, practical advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
  21. Don't you mean 'after'shock loss? If it occurs at all, shock loss doesn't happen until after the HT. So, the % of hair's kept in the transplanted area 'before' shock loss would be 100%. HOWEVER, the % of hair's kept in the transplanted area 'after' shock loss can be quite different from person to person. Personally, I had some shock loss after my first HT, but it came back. I'm a little over two months into my second HT and I haven't noticed any shock loss yet. Could be too early to tell.
  22. Nope. As far as I can tell, I've never experienced this.
