1. Time to do something, This topic has been brought up a few times and where as it may be true, I personally don't believe so, there have been guys on this forum who have had work done in the 70's, 80's (Finasteride wasn't even around until 1992) and their work has stood the test of time. Again, this may be true - at least for some, but there are guys who have been using it for more then 10 years with positive results. EDIT: Having said that, the "safe zone" is rather subjective; my grandafather who is now in his 80s had a fair amount of hair in what I would have considered the "safe zone" in his 60s. However, he currently has a strip of hair around an inch wide.
2. Yeah, I meant in the event that you had used every possible graft in your donor in earlier stages of loss and then became a NW7. That is a planned escape route should I become a high NW case; I would get every graft possible from the donor, then redistribute my previous work thereby having coverage (albeit thinner than ideal). My theory, flawed as it may be, and this is just an example... say if you used 7000 grafts to treat a NW3 then later become a NW7 - why can't these grafts from the NW3 be redistributed over the NW7? Again, it isn't ideal but to me it seems a better option than lasering previous work, etc. Of course a test area would be needed first.
3. Hey MikeTheDane, I'm just curious, would you never consider redistributing a percentage of the transplanted hair using FUE?
4. Slaps, DHT affects women also. Lisa martin, Congratulations on your recent transplant, I hope you get the results you're looking for. You can read a little on DHT and what causes hair loss -here-.
5. Coligion, You could dissolve the 5mg tablet in a syringe containing 10ml of alcohol such as vodka and take 1ml per day.
6. Mmche, Your right, Jotronic has discussed this topic already. It was actually in a thread created by Bllorayne back in 2008 asking the exact same question. Bllorayne, you have already asked this question: -here-. Edit: Bllorayne, sorry I didn't notice the mega-session part of your question.
7. I have used the Unitedpharmacies for years without any issues, that being said, I have heard a lot of bad things regarding the .co.uk site which is run as a separate business, so it may be better for users to stick to the .com site.
8. Here in the UK we have Nizoral which contains 2% ketoconazole (the active ingredient in the products) and Nizorelle which contains 1%. I'd recommend you use a 1% version, which from what I've read, almost everyone finds a lot milder and less harsh on the scalp/hair. It is safe to use daily and studies have shown it to be almost as effective as the 2% version.
9. As far a slowing or halting further loss, if you see journals as proof then they are all over this and many other websites; they're the profiles of guys who at various stages of loss have had a transplant while on Finasteride or shortly after the procedure start using Finasteride. They are the guys who you see having at transplant and showing their results a year or more down the road with no or little further loss of their native hair.
10. Hey John Malloy, Do you not feel the reduced laxity may be responsible for the wider scar after your second transplant?
11. Default609, All Youngsuccess stated was that for many of us, we see Finasteride as a maintinence drug to slow or stop future loss (which I and most users of the drug will agree with). It would be impossible to prove 100% that Finasteride is the reason for this slowing of loss, but when thousands upon thousands have noticed this slowing only after taking Finasteride - we feel pretty confident that it is the drug causing this effect. There have been many people that have regrown some hair but for the vast majority its main benefit is the slowing or halting of further loss. Many longterm users, including myself, are in no doubt that Finasteride has helped save some of their hair. Edit: Also, where as it may be impossible to prove 100% that Finasteride has slowed hair loss or regrew hair, the science behind it is solid. We are pretty certain now that DHT is responsible for hair loss and it has been proven that Finasteride reduces the formation of DHT; it stands to reason if you reduce the cause then benefits will be possible. Lets not forget that Finasteride was never intended as a hair loss drug, hair growth was a side effect of its use.
12. I personally haven't tried Minoxidil in strengths above 5% but I have read many times of people not noticing any benefits with the 5% versions then moving onto higher strengths such as Xandrox 12.5% and experiencing excellent results. Xandrox also contains Azelaic acid; what, if any result this has on any benefits noticed I couldn't say. Personally if I wasn't seeing results with the 5% version I'd feel confident in at least trying a higher dosage.
13. Hey Johnny99, You could try distilled witch hazel, I never used it in the donor (at least, not for any length of time) but I applied it to the receipt which seemed to help with the redness. I know this isn't the same as what you're describing, but post-op, there was an area on my forehead that if I scratched it I would feel it in my crown instead of the area I scratched; It was like that for so long that I thought it must be permanent damage, however, after around 9 months everything returned to normal.
14. Best uk hairtransplant, What makes you so sure that the doctors you mentioned have trained under or worked with either of the Farjos'? Mick who has worked for the Farjos' for almost two decades has told you this isn't the case, though you still seem adamant.
15. Hey Mmhce, Could you link to the articles please? I'd be interested in reading them.
16. Welcome clinton456, I agree with BigBill, you really don't need a transplant. Personally I think your hair looks great and suits you, I know you have your heart set on a lower hairline but I really don't think this is something you should do. You say there is no hair loss in the family but this isn't a guarantee that you won't suffer it in the future, your native hair *is* really thick and you like to wear your hair short... as a result you pretty much have to shoot for full density and not the illusion of it. The scar, though it is hoped that it will be pencil-thin - this can not be guaranteed. There is simply no way anyone can predict what result you will have in terms of growth and healing. Hopefully you will never start balding, the scar will be invisible, you will have excellent growth and your transplanted hair will be thick enough to blend in with your native hair but these are all big ifs for a procedure that isn't needed. You say that you are very self conscious - if anything goes wrong or just not as you expect, how are you going feel? I'd strongly advise you to reconsider.
17. Welcome Tye9000, 1. should one have a pretty full head of hair at 7000 graphs? This would depend on a few factors such as what stage your original loss was, has there been further loss, hair characteristics etc. 2. Will a Dr. get offended if you question them on the double checking the graph count? Don't worry about offending your doctor, ask him/her about anything that concerns you, if they don't like it or won't answer then go elsewhere. 3. What is roughly/ballpark the going rate/per graph for the Dr.'s affiliated with this forum? In the USA I believe the average going rate is $4-$5 per graft for the first 2000. Edit: Who is your doctor/surgeon?
18. I remember reading a post (along time ago now) by Dr. Limmer or one of his staff in which they stated the only medications/vitamins that they have seen help with hair loss is Finasteride, Minoxidil and Biotin.
19. Welcome Paradoxbox, As Dakota said, I'd get on Minoxidil. No one can tell what the results will be but given your loss, I'd have pretty high hopes. I'd also consider Finasteride (Proscar/Propecia). I know you say you can't afford any medication at this time but you can get generic Finasteride fairly cheap, as for the Minoxidil you can get a 6 month's supply for around $25; it will probably work out cheaper then your 2 cans of tomatos.
20. Best uk hairtransplant, This site is far from one sided but when you join a forum with a name such as "Best uk hairtransplant" and then in the majority of your posts defend and recommend a clinic that many have heard bad things about, it is going to raise suspicions. I would have the same suspicions if a member named themselves "Best USA hairtransplant" and then the majority of their posts revolved around how good a certain USA clinic was. Even if it was a top clinic, I'd have my doubts, but when it's a clinic with a bad reputation - these doubts are going be magnified.
21. Hey Dr. Lindsey, Thanks for the reply. I'm almost 15 months post-op, however, I still worry that ab work may stretch the scar so have avoided doing it. I will try out the machine and let everyone know how it feels back there.
22. Windjc, If you read the line I quoted you on There is no doubt whatsoever that my reasoning is correct. If you plan on maxing out your entire donor, the "BEST" way is to max out with FUT followed by FUE. Like you said, you're an intelligent man. Come on, think about it... perhaps in the final result you would end up with the same amount of grafts if you're lucky, but I personally wasn't disagreeing with that. If you are wanting to get every graft possible it would be foolish to use large FUE sessions first followed by strips; it simply doesn't make sense. If strips were taken first then you know exactly how many grafts you can get, where from (using FUE) and still hide previous work (if further FUT sessions weren't an option), But if large FUE sessions were used first there is no way in telling how many strips/grafts you could later get due to laxity issues, healing from previous surgeries , etc. EDIT: Sorry, I some how managed to misread the line I quoted you on (twice) lol. I missed the word "most" in the quote, though I still stand by what I wrote.
23. Hey Sunner, Thanks for the reply. I've found them on Ebay for ??28... I'll get one and give it a go.
