i don’t take Fin for the exact same reasons. I’m not risking permanent side effects. I’m also not taking a pill for life just to save my crown. I rather just get additional surgeries if i bald out completely. If i were you, i wouldn’t take meds. Maybe just rogaine. And when the time comes where your front third which is your hairline and a few inches beyond that get thin enough to need a transplant, then just do the surgery. And then once your mid scalp and crown get bad then do another surgery. It takes on average 5-6k grafts to get coverege from hairline to crown so you’d be looking at 2 fut surgeries for that. And then you can do a 3rd fue session to fill in any touch ups. No point in relying on fin. In the end your genetics will always win. Keeping your donor in the best shape possible is more important here

If you don’t want to take fin, that’s fine. Some doctors don’t like to rely on a medication for life to maintain a desirable cosmetic appearance. Honestly if you really think about it, you should only start a hair transplant with the expectation of losing all your hair up top, unless it’s pretty apparent that you won’t become an advanced pattern. Planning for the worst and using your donor wisely, and not relying on a little pill is the best way to approach this stuff. You really never know if you’ll ever want to stop the medication for whatever reason. Signing off on committing to it for life doesn’t sound attractive. I rather just see a surgeon that can utilize every graft possible and commit to 2-3 surgeries if you become an advanced balding pattern.

Thank you for these. A few of these examples were able to obtain some light crown coverage, which I’d be okay with. The use of concealers back there makes it much easier when there’s Atleast some hairs to grab onto. Not the end of the world. I would say in order this is what I’d rather accept. 1. Strong frontal half, acceptable thin back half & crown. 2. a shaved head 3. a strong frontal half with a completely bald crown. with 6-7k scalp grafts and the potential use of my beard grafts I’m hoping option 1 is possible. But unfortunately even with how advanced today’s hair restoration is, a majority of surgeons still don’t want to guarantee anything because you can’t predict your final balding pattern. Which ultimately leaves patients rolling the dice. So that’s why I’m basically accepting to potentially have an open crown in a worst scenario and trying to see how it actually looks on people.

That 6k was for fut & fue combined. Including Two strips. I also don’t plan on taking oral fin. So I’m ready for multiple surgeries if need be. If my crown wasn’t dipping then i feel the decision would be a no brainer to begin surgery.

yeah i know i can get the frontal third done now and look great, but once i hit 35 (29 now) i can see my mid scalp and crown getting real light. I also see my crown dipping and rounding off when my hair is cut shorter which indicates nw 6, so that also concerns me in regards to having enough donor hair. A reputable surgeon examined my hair and said i have great donor and 6k grafts would be enough to cover the hairline to crown. Not including the dip though. (I also have a good beard) That’s why i was wondering how it looks if you do surgery say 3/4 of the head and left the crown thin. I know @Melvin-Moderatorsports a slick back with concealer in the crown which looks phenomenal on him.

My hair is currently a diffused nw 4 ish. Very much like @hairlossPAprior to his fin use. But I know after a frontal third surgery of 2500 grafts will frame my face and I’ll look good for a handful of years. But when that back half goes... there’s my concern. I’ve heard doctors say you can obtain full coverage but I’m preparing for the worst

Topical Dutasteride/Finasteride
Hair4Days replied to hairhairhair2541's topic in Shampoos, sprays, and concealers
I opted for his regular fin spray because i never took any type of medication for hairloss before and i heard dutasteride is a lot stronger so i wanted to reduce any potential side effects. He recommended the mix as well to me but i wanted to test the waters with just fin -
Hey guys. Has anyone here got a hair transplant just in the frontal half of their scalp and left the back half untreated? Would you say the use of concealer in the back half makes getting a hair transplant in the front worth it? If it doesn’t look that bad then i can see it being better then a shaved head..I know this is a subjective question as everyone’s level of satisfaction is different. But I’m preparing for the worst and expecting my crown to open up to a nw6 in the future. I plan on doing my frontal third but just trying to see what it’ll look like once the rest of my hair falls. Sharing photos of pulled off hairstyles for a thin/bald crown would be helpful. thanks guys

Topical Dutasteride/Finasteride
Hair4Days replied to hairhairhair2541's topic in Shampoos, sprays, and concealers
I just started taking his topical fin. A little over a month. No results yet, also No side effects. What i can say is i feel like the areas I’ve been applying it to seems thinner currently. I hope this is normal. With Rogaine it’s expected for your hair to look worse before it improves- hoping it’s the same concept here -
That low skin fade is perfect. As for you adding density, does bloxham want to do do another strip for that or fue ? Or are you going to save another fut surgery for your back half if needed?

Am I a bad hair transplant candidate?
Hair4Days replied to BeadHead's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
Did you make a decision yet on a procedure? What are clinics advising you to do ? -
I just got my 3 month supply of topical finasteride from Dr Carlos Wesleys clinic in New York. Has anyone used this stuff from his clinic specifically? Or a topical finasteride elwewhere? Is there any known side effects similar to oral finasteride? And what were the cosmetic benefits like on topical fin?

How many of you left the crown alone??
Hair4Days replied to Westview's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
This is highly subjective. Some people are content with coverage just right up to the crown. There’s a few hairstyles you can pull off to mask a bald crown. Me personally, i agree with you. I rather be slick bald then only have a frontal third of hair. One thing i can say is those doctors you mentioned are pretty optimistic of getting front to back coverage if your donor is considered “good” or better. -
Almost 2 months post 3,000 FUT

How many in total were put in the crown itself ? -
Hey guys, I’ve been reading more and more of hair transplant results potentially not being permanent in the later years of life. Any input? Especially from guys who had surgery 10,20 years ago. Does it still look the same now? How likely is it for grafted hairs, even taken from the safe donor area, to fall out in the future?
-
How much hair do you think a diffuser needs to lose specifically before they get a transplant ?
-
Yeah i figured it was done when transplants weren’t as efficient as they are now. I think in the hands of the right surgeon you’ll be just fine.

I never understand how some people have scars like that but no hair on top lol
-
Are you really able to conceal the scar having it buzzed? I know you said you plan on grafting into it. I feel like that’s the number one reason why patients are so indecisive on getting a HT to begin with. Fearing the fact that they will never be able to shave their head once they begin surgery and create scarring. That’s the boat I’m in. I’m prepared to go to war with HT tho, if i need 3 over my lifetime so be it
