    1 Month

I can hardly believe that it has been 1 month since I left the chair in the Eugenix operating theater (BTW- I love how they use the term 'theater'- in the US, we use the more mundane, 'room') after receiving 5,484 grafts (1,200 beard) to cover the front/deep into the mid-scalp/temple points.

Things seem to be growing as expected and I have not had any significant shedding...YET. I could be one of the fortunate few who do not experience much shedding, or perhaps the fall has yet to occur.

Donor is recovering nicely and I love the design work by Dr. Pradeep. I am confident that the other docs including Dr. Arika and Dr. Das would have also created an excellent design, although the artistry may have differed ever so slightly.

I actually kind of like the look with the buzz cut/shaved head and even though the grafts have yet to grow/mature, I am definitely enjoying having hair on the head and the way the hairline frames my face.

As a reminder- I take oral finasteride- 1mg/daily and oral minoxidil- 2.5mg/daily.

I hope this serves to benefit all in their decision making and HT knowledge.

I'll be back in a month to report my month #2 status.

I will be back for month #2 updates937450679_1month-2forumpost.PNG.eec176b0c1927a84a44a7a0d1b6e884f.PNG368567149_1MonthForumPost.PNG.f289f41f0f602026e17b863a6df08cc6.PNG1184238022_1month-1ForumPost.thumb.jpg.a97224b12ea02d95337da1775422d088.jpg1264291411_1Month-3forumpost.PNG.d0257cc30364dad9ad067b4f53cb8ef1.PNG1235486526_1month-4forumpost.PNG.73d782e7e5114e0b5760f2aa7696d45a.PNG

Day 4, so this is the final surgery day. This is the day where my blood pressure was a little higher than normal. I was told my BP was around 150/100. I was then given a medication called Alprax and told to rest for about 45 minute. After my this, my BP was rechecked and it was significantly lower. I was then told surgery could start.

On this day, I had more grafts extracted from my beard (right lower side). I also had more grafts implanted over my crown region. I didn't have a whole day of surgery as most of me was done. Around 2-3 o'clock my surgery was complete. Thuis is the day when I felt like a new man. I felt amazing! This is the day I felt like a new rebuilt man.

After surgery and having my last graft implanted I was then cleaned up and shaved with clippers. At this point Dr Vinneeta walked in and asked how I was. I remember I said I was feeling fine although a little drowsy. I also remembered saying how happy I was. At this point my beard was also hurting and it felt like a massive burning sensation under and across my face. However, to be frank, all this pain was manageable.

I was then taken to the room next door for my final photo shoot (post op pics)

In summary, I had 1412 grafts harvested this day (Day4).

    Day 1 – 983 grafts

    Day 2 – 1635 grafts

    Day 3 – 1420 grafts

    Day 4 – 1412 grafts plus 112 grafts

    Total grafts harvested was 5450

    Total slits 5250

Love your details and your photos. And so happy to hear that feeling you have inside: "feeling like a new man".
For sure with over 5000 grafts you are gonna have an amazing transformation 🤗 Thanks for sharing!

Thank you very much for the encouragement comments!

My hair is much thicker than it was 2 months ago. I suppose that now, after 8 months, there will be little more evolution but, I would sign not to get any more improvement if I could stay like this FOREVER 🙏🏻. I say this after reading some post out there in the Spanish foro "Recuperarelpelo" that implanted grafts end up falling off over the years 🙄
I will talk about this with Dr Couto over my one year review to get his opinion on this.

Wow! What a comeback my friend. Soooo happy for you, for your hair and your new life 😃

This is taken outdoors and my hair is wet as I have just had a shower. When dry it’s a bit fuller looking. Tomorrow I’ve got two Christmas parties to attend. I’ll sprinkle in some fibre magic and upload a couple more pics.

In the worst condition to take a photo that looks great @Gatsby
Let's see those Xmas event photos, I am sure you will make an impression 🙌🏻

A little 6 weeks action for the bros (and me)

Pics in front of a window + overhead lighting

Shedding has been mighty lame. Coupled with the short cut it rather exposes the area prior to how it did when I had my hair longer pre op. Feels like between the transplanted hairs + grafts falling out + hair cut that this ugly duckling phase gave me a window into what 2-5 years down the line would look like without surgery. I suppose this is part of what can be meant by the ht adage “it gets worse before it gets better.” All that drama aside, the rate of my hair growth at 6 weeks here has me confident that by the 3 month mark I’ll have the length for the coverage that I’m looking for.

Also, went to the derm, yes I have seb dermatitis. Was prescribed some gel but going to talk with dr. Wong about it first and probably hold off on that for awhile out of an abundance of caution. Haven’t washed my hair in a few days here/just waking up, but that generally does the trick. Still washing with just baby shampoo, again, out of an abundance of caution. Another hair care change I’ve made is not getting my hair wet unless I’m going to wash it. As a chronic long hot showerer my whole life I’m sure that hasn’t helped matters.

If you look closely at the bottom picture, you can start to make out a distinction between the untouched northern (crown) and southern (frontal half) portion of my scalp where I had the work done. I can see filling this crown in 18-24 months from now depending on how it’s all going. Maybe see where the temples are at and get them touched up on the same session. That said, we’ll see what coverage is like when the transplant/native hair regrows and is longer at the year+ mark. I could be totally fine with it and knowing that I’ll probably need multiple surgeries definitely has me wanting to space them out as much as possible.

    Happy growing everyone!

Worst moment after a hair transplant... but in 5-6 months that will look fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Hi quillum,

I am sorry to say this but, I think your hair and overall look was a lot better before this FUE procedure. And it's not just your donor but your hairline looks really diffused... What are your thoughts on the before-after? The quality of the hair seems a lot worse now.

Are you still taking your Finasteride? Have you consider increasing the dose to 1mg? Or even changing to Dutasteride, maybe? Have they suggested this from the clinic? And Minoxidil?

Well, let's wait a few months since all might recover a bit and get better. Thanks a lot for sharing your story.

You're going to a great doctor, why would you ask a bunch of random people on an internet forum? Just talk over your questions/concerns with him before the surgery. That's what you're paying him for. Good surgeons like Couto do a lot more than just throw some grafts on your head, they understand everything about reinforcing exposed areas due to hair style/length/direction, etc.

+10000000 Exactly this. Just ASK Dr COUTO everything there is that you need or want to know, what an opportunity you have! Oh, and then please, SHARE all that knowledge you get from him here in the Forum with us, Ok?

Your case is really interesting. Please, share updates and photos, would be great to follow this case.

Yes, Mwamba responded with the plan. A nice long write-up.

He estimates I have 45 FU/cm2 in donor area (although this is lower bound, he found some areas up to 60). He calls it below average but to me it sounds like it is VERY LOW!!

Which is why I am really surprised that Couto thinks he can do more than 3K with me. (3K in front and more for crown later...)

But My plan is to go to Couto, and if donor area looks depleted then go to Mwamba for FIT.

I think the last thing that a hair surgeon want is a depleted donor area, as this becomes a major reputation concern ... "do no harm"

So Couto must know what he is doing, being a top doc with impeccable reputation apparently.

Great choice going with Dr Couto as he is said to be the best Hair Transplant surgeon today. Your result would be fantastic for sure.

Thanks for the tag. Density is really only one issue among several and in-fact densities would be more accurate as it will change from the transition zone to the defined zone etc as different FU are employed. It is also about strategic placement and angles etc.

It is essentially about creating an illusion and the first few mm of hair line as per this video here, can take well over 400 singles alone to create that macro-irregularity needed for a natural hair line with fine singles on the outer front part of the hair-line initially.

A photo is worth a thousand words so a video must be more but here is Dr.B himself explaining this over-looked aspect in design.

If you consider even a conservative hair line can be 20cm in circumference and then going back 3 to 4mms with singles then we are hitting near 500 FU so around 60 FU per cm2 and then we drop to 40/45 with a use of twos and then as you go continue you can deploy 3 and 4 haired units and drop again. So, we don't design for density per se that is one variable but also skin contrast, native density, loss potential, hair calibre etc...but with the objective of giving a natural result.

LeBerry thank you for updating your case and really happy for you so far and more to come also!

Wow! Nice result. I love video explanations like this. Thanks for sharing!
