Are scalp exercises helpful?
Severn replied to morehair4me's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
As I mentioned on another post, I did so many scalp exercises prior to my surgery that I actually developed a turkey neck from the resulting sagging skin. But I was doing over 1 hour per day. However it created enough laxity where I went from "tight" to "very loose". The turkey neck effect went away within 2 weeks after surgury. Upon my initial consultation before scalp exercises, there was a question as to whether I could even get 2500 on one pass. It was possible I was going to have to do 1200 then come back for another 1200. But the doc ended up with 3000 and easily could have gotten over 4000 on one pass. -
I've seen some amazing repair patients probably far worse off than you helped through Hasson and Wong. Go look up Jotronic's blog from H&W, he's a repair patient himself through Dr. Wong. He went from a disaster to a full head of hair with Dr. Wong's help. Also look into SMG with Dr. Ron and Paul Shapiro. I'm sure Dr. Arocha here would be a good one too.

Good pics. But yea, I'd just use concealers until it's fully matured.

There's no reason to cut it into 5 pieces. Cutting into fourths for 1.25 mg per dose is fine.

Hey I'm not getting all dressed up just to shop at Walmart! I like buying from the Dollar store where I can go casual. But sometimes I do give homeless children a bowl of rice to cut and manicure my lawn.

They might have been honest workers starting off. But they'd have to turn a blind eye to all the lives that were destroyed after patients come back in looking like freaks. They probably justify it by saying to themselves: "Hey, I'm just a secretary here, I didn't ruin that man's life." Which in a sense is true, but you continue to work for a company knowing what they are doing. A small amount of foresight should let you know this would be coming sooner or later.

The internet is their worst enemy. The multiple lawsuits probably weren't helping their reputation either though.

juz: I started doing them on a serious basis around August 1st, and continued until the day before surgery Oct. 12th. And as stamos said, just wetting your hands or hair gives a good grip while doing the exercises. I was slipping too at first until I started that. But after a bit I was letting my hair grown out longer and i didn't even need to wet it anymore to get a grip.

Yea, I've seen closeup pics of his hairline. It looks like some kind of transparent glue creating a natural hairline. Not a regular type of toupee. Definitely not a hair transplant though.

'Age Appropriate' - Whats that?
Severn replied to MikeTheDane's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
This is Judge Napolitano from Fox News. It's his real hair but it certainly isn't age appropriate. He looks like a mongoloid. -
I started using finisteride(Propecia) around 1997. It worked great and restored most of my crown hair. However the positive effects only lasted about 3 years. By the 4th year I was back to where I started. I stopped taking it and was worried that I would go through the reported shed and accelerated loss but no visible changes happened after that. I had my HT October 12th last year and have no plans to restart finisteride or avodart.

I can testify that they are very important. If you already have excellent laxity it isn't needed as much. But when I first consulted with SMG in July 2009, my laxity was judged as "tight" by Matt and there was some question whether they could even do 2500 in one pass. Matt was talking about the possibility of having to do 1200 instead and do two surguries. Well I started doing the exercises and even increased my time to 1 hour per day. By the time my surgery came in October, I went from "tight" to "very loose". In fact, they didn't even need to cut all the way around my head and got 3008 with ease. Ron said he could have easily gotten 4000+ if needed. Doing the exercises can be tediuos, but this is what helped me a lot. Lay on the couch and start watching TV. have your arms proped where you don't have to hold them up so much. Do only 5 minutes at a time. Take a break, then later do another 5 minutes later on. By the time you've finished watching one movie, you easily have your 30 minutes in for the day. I overdid my exercises and am not sure 1 hour per day is even wise. I had gotten so much laxity that I started getting a little bit of a turkey neck! That went away after the surgery though.

Invisible Scar (well, at least for now!)
Severn replied to Chris in Seattle's topic in Hair Transplant Reviews
I don't think it's that unusual really. 15 years ago when I had my first scalp reduction at the "Butchers of Bosely" I could not detect the scar after the sutures were removed. Maybe the top of the head has a different physiology but there was no redness at all. -
2 weeks after I had my transplant done at SMG, I went to my local doc to have them remove the stitches. They were quite confused when I told them I had a hair transplant. They thought the implanted hairs were just my native hairs cut short. And this is just two weeks out. To make a long story short, every HT where people look at it as say: "Ugh! Look at that guy with the bad hair transplant!" is poor work. The good work like that done by the coalition doctors here gets no notice at all because the HT is undetectable. Therefore to the public (or a hairdresser), they perceive hair transplants as being a bad option because the bad ones are the only ones they can see.

Megatron, they probably take into account the patient's age, level of baldness and family history to determine if the area they cut into has a risk of being bald. If they deem it reasonably safe they will make that move (IMO). Although I had my procedure done at SMG, I heartily defend H&W's work and decisions. They have so many close-up HD pics and videos that even a hardened critic can't deny their level of excellence. My choices were narrowed down between Dr. Wong and Dr. Ron Shapiro as well. I rated both's work at near perfection of 99/100. So my final decision was almost a coin toss. Since they were both essentially tied in quality, I went with SMG for smaller almost insignficant reasons like they were in the States instead of across the border. However, if I would have required one of the large megasessions I would have gone H&W because that is one of their specialties.

Shock Loss in Crown? Very Confused
Severn replied to Red888's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
no pics showing up. It's a text file format. -
This is the pricing structure straight from Armani's webpage: VIP Service: The VIP rate is $21/graft in all cases. For our VIP patients, we only perform one procedure per day, and provide 1 year of medical/cosmetic supplies in addition to many other VIP services. Executive Session: In our Executive Session, we offer a non-shaving session of 1,500 grafts, with a minimum cost of $15/graft. Repair Cases: A Repair Case involves corrective work for patients who have had a previous unsuccessful hair replacement procedure at another center. The cost for all repair cases is $15/graft. Crowns: The number of grafts for all crown sessions are based on individual assessment. 1,500 grafts at $10/graft = $15,000 2,000 grafts at $9/graft = $18,000 Fees are subject to change without notice. That's pretty steep from a doc that has a reputation as a butcher. Armani's price structure is double or triple the normal rate. But IMO he targets the rich or well off uninformed patient whose patients think that you get a much higher quality of work with the higher costs.

The link doesn't show the video anymore. The material on that webpage is just discussing rental car problems.

UPDATED- 4 MONTH Pics Posted - Dr. Hasson ~ 4,159 grafts
Severn replied to Fingers Crossed's topic in Hair Transplant Reviews
He very well could have seen a lot of miniturization. Get it all done in one shot or chase it for 3 or 4 operations 1000 grafts at a time. -
I believe TC means that the longer it is, the more the incision arcs "upward"(higher). Unless the original poster means higher in the back.
