  1. DIY will come in time as you increase confidence. I still find the tape sometimes fiddly. I have been doing in a few years now and the reattachment is tricky even with two mirrors, but you will improve. Often you will feel if its too far back, forward, right and left and have time to push and try again. Dont apply too much pressure straightaway. Sometimes I will mess the tape up and have to reapply. Just keep to stay cool and focused. Now you have seen how the salon do it, it will at least give you a heads up on the steps. My quickest from start taping to attached is about 10 mins and my slowest 30 mins - some attempts are smoother than others but even the longest will get there in the end.
  2. The first reattachment was not one I looked forward too. In the end I knew that I had to reattach and went for it. The steps are quite logical. I guess trying to make it sit back on the head is the tricky bit, but after your first one (you always remember your first they say) all the others are routine.
  3. looks very good. well done. attachment wise 6-weeks is very long. Usually 2-4 weeks is the norm
  4. I have used different suppliers - North West, Mens Hair and my current one UK Hair Systems.
  5. The simple answer is they may be but there is no single scale for thinnest of lace and it varies from supplier to supplier. I usually just ask the supplier more detail about their lace bases and find the one thats best.
  6. I would be cautious about a chinese factory direct as there are many of them and the quality can vary considerably. While, with an online seller you can buy from anywhere in the world - its usual for you to buy at least from your own country - if only to get help with the cut in suggestion.
  7. Hi there, good to know of a UK Supplier. How long have you been wearing and why have you decided to supply yourself?
  8. any photos available to see the extent of your hair loss
  9. Im in the UK - even when working in Dubai or New York I use http://www.ukhairsystems.com I wear both Swiss Lace and their Ultra Thin 0.02mm Been with them a few years now
  10. would you be generous enough to share? thank you
  11. Top Quality & Affordable Hair Systems, Hairpieces, Toupees, Wigs, Hair Replacement Systems - Shipping UK and Worldwide.
  12. Hi, this is most likely, though not certain, if the online supplier is located in the same country as yourself. The supplier I use, recommended the salon I visit for cut ins. That salons charges the same as if it were a normal cut and not inflated prices like other prices. Both are UK based so if you want details let me know.
  13. sounds like this is a recent development. how long have you been wearing? you can of course change the products and do other things, but would a period of non use be feasible or until the scalp has repaired? I usually, have a day or two break between reattachments. I know new pieces have a silicone that need to be washed off and it all takes 24 hours to get max strength bond, but only 2-days of use sounds like a more fundamental problem than changing product.
  14. Frankie Cochrane fits and supplies Total Cover Plus and there are mixed reviews on various forums. Unfortunately, if you are going down that route you will end up paying 3 or 4 times more a year. Im in London and I usually order online then go to a salon from my supplier to get it fitted and cut.
  15. try this helpful post Northwest Lace, LLC - Hair Loss Forum (northwestlace.com): Non Toxic Edible Glue.
  16. I dont personally have this problem, but I have read of homemade alternatives which you can even eat! I need to check where I read it and get back.
  17. Thats enough to keep me going for 10-years of hair units from my supplier!
  18. How much were you charged? I saw Farrell on a you tube video talking AT the customer and thought, no thanks
  19. Its very unusual. Usually, you just get a new piece every 6 months or so. You will end up with a system with different aged hair and different donors and no doubt changing colours are different rates from UV exposure! The best hair is from one person (usually their ponytail), collected at the same time and kept in the right polarity. Anything else means cuticles messed up and it will not behave and matt! Think stroking a cat or dog in the wrong direction. Also his approach is useless if lace weakens or frails as will happen.
  20. ?225-?250 and it lasts me 8-12 months
  21. price, dont like invasive cutting and stabbing and needles, cost, success rate seems low from what I have read, native hair can still fall out leading to a patchy effect and the need for more procedures, the hair transplanted may not take, if it does it can take 18-months and still resemble baby hair. Limited style options. Some procedures can leave bad scarring.
  22. 1st system probably lace, remy indian - I would stick to one until you know its for you AND because these places tend to charge steeply. How much are they charging for a piece and cut in? You can also order a second one online once you have a template and spec. When I order through my online supplier the other bits I fill out to get the most authentic pieces include: 1. bleached knots - all over, front or crown. 2. Lace front 3. base colour 4. grey and its density 5. density at front, crown and elsewhere 6. position of crown 7. freestyle or other 8 straight or wavy hair and the curl 9. all lace or part skin 10. colour of hair - its usually taken from a sample I give 11. poly perimete - all round, back and sides, thickness of poly 12. baby hair 13. european or indian (beware of places that sell korean or chinese hair or pass it off as a different type as the hair structure is all wrong). I know of a salon charging over ?1000 a piece doing this. You wont know until you order though. 14. double or single knots and where Its quite daunting, but any good supplier worth their price would take you through it all so you are more knowledgeable after they know a little about you (well the supplier I use does). Sadly, a lot of suppliers either want to keep you in the dark and coming back or they themselves dont consider all these matters and gloss over them.
  23. 1) personally every third week 2) I havent noticed an increase in itchiness but you you can still scratch any itch, so its never been an issue for me 3) every third week I will clipper cut my growing hair to a #1. Growing hair over 3-weeks doesnt weaken the bond. I use tape and only around the perimeter. As I wear lace, there is no glue or tape for the majority of its area and it breathes really well. I work out at the gym and sweat like a sweaty pig with and never had any problems with sweat evaporating, shampooing or over heating.
  24. beware of hair clubs and clinics that try to confuse customers with these mystic and ultimately carpy catch lines. its a wig plain and simple and as a wearer and a DIYer Im very happy.
  25. I am not a stylist so I cannot be 100% sure, but there are services out there that will do that, however as a customer, like most others I would prefer to wear it for the cut in and I think stylists would be the same. I only ever buy custom made so I can get the right size, density, colour and other specs. With a stock system you are unlikely to get all you want but you will have something quicker. Hence the reason, when I was happy that wearing was for me, I quickly got spares from my online supplier as back up. There is no reliable way to know the age of a stock piece. I have heard of some salons that sell infrequently having them sit around for a while. Also how they are stored and the conditions can age a piece prematurely. I have kept pieces for 3 years in proper conditions and they have been absolutely fine to wear.
