1. I believe Dr. Epstein does quality work and is a good choice for those needing 2500-2900 grafts. Like many Docs, he has chosen not to staff for doing larger session sizes than that. Do your homework and review as many patients of his as you can and see what you think.
2. If your 26 and receding with thinning elsewhere, no way will you have one surgery and then not need more work later - just keeping it real with you. My loss started at age 23-25 but I waited until 38 for my first HT.......I'm going back for #3 next week at which point I'll likely have over 8000 grafts and should be pretty much fully restored. You may have just meant "multiple surgeries at this time", and know you'll need to go back later as you lose more hair, I wasn't sure by your post. Hope this helps-
3. Yes, IMO 2500 will make a nice cosmetic difference for you. The type of pic you've taken probably shows you with your loss at it's worst..........falsh on, overhead. It would be nice to see a pic without the flash. How old are you and how long have you been on the meds? I would probably differ somewhat with bverotti in that I do believe 2500 over the frontal 1/3 and midscalp would make a nice cosmetic difference. Unless I'm seeing something that isn't there, you still have a decent bit of native hair. Again, a few more pics would be a big help.
4. No.........merely having an oily scalp/hair will not cause you to have hair loss nor will masturbation. Only Male-Pattern-Baldness. There are a few rare conditions of the scalp that may cause loss also but it is different than MPB. The only way to determine if you having something other than MPB is to see a Dermatologist. If your pattern of loss is that of MPB that's likely it. Use the Norwood Scale of Loss to determine how far along you are. Hope this helps -
5. I like Nixoin and used it for a a year or so after HT #2 but have now switched to a basic thickening shampoo/conditioner. I do believe Nixoin is great stuff and will provide optimum growth conditions on your scalp and give you healthy hair. I don't know much about Revita but may give it a try sometime. What do you like about it?
6. You mean the "Dead Thread Police" isn't keeping up anymore?? Glad I'm back!!! I love sniffing up revived threads..........especially from shills looking to sell something! Fun, Fun, Fun!!!!
7. oops.............duplicate post.....sorry guys.
8. Yep.........if I knew then what I know now (and it was available, I'm 41 too Dewayne ), I'd have started Finasteride Pronto. Losing hair sucks, no two ways about it. I found that once I married at age 25, when my crown was first starting to thin, I was less bothered by it but still didn't like it. My loss was gradual, I'm tall and still had hair on the front........so I had things in my favor but still it bothered me. It somewhat depends on circumstances too. I can tell you, even at 41 years of age now I'm going back in the chair for HT #3 and the finishing touch. Unfortunately I'm single again after going through a divorce last year, was married 15 years.........I'm now dating again and must say I'm glad I had the first two HT's and am looking forward to more hair from #3. Kudos to those who can shave down and say to heck with it...........I couldn't given the HT option.
9. The closest I know of would be either Dr. Konior in Chicago or Dr's Shapiro in Minnesota depending on where you're at in Iowa. You may want to view this sites Coalition Surgeons to see other recommended Docs. I'd encourage you to use the "find" feature on the site to search for results from each and also review the Hair Loss Weblogs.
10. Thanks guys - puts me at ease. Since I had no temple work from H/W before I hadn't thought of it. It's all relative I guess !! Good to know a hat or bandana will work.
11. Hi richie and welcome to HTN - First I would encourage you to surf the site by using the "find" feature located on each page to further your research. You say you just started Finasteride and Minox to stop further loss which is great. How much loss do you have a this point? If your familiar with the Norwood scale of hairloss you can use that for reference. This site recommends what it considers "top" hair transplant surgeons from a list referred to as the Coalition Surgeons. You'll see that the list shows 3 Docs in Florida...Dr. Charles, Dr. Epstein and Dr. Rose. I've found that the type of Doc which is best for one person isn't necessarily best for another depending on the extent of your loss and what you want to accomplish. As I mentioned, I encourage you to do some research here. Look at the Hair Loss Weblogs of many who have posted there results along with their story and particular surgeon used. Best of luck,
12. I did check with H&W and they said they do have hats that are larger and will work. I may look for the bandana though................funny, never have wore one before and wouldn't even know where to look ! Anyone else experience this??
13. Hi mobius- As for #1, people usually take the meds after HT's to prevent further loss. In my case, at age 41, I take Fin so the sides and back don't receed any further. I was NW5 before any HT's and my loss was very gradual, so I really don't think it would receed much more anyway, but, I will continue with Fin just in case. Also, you can opt to start Fin every other day rather than daily. I was advised by my Doc that it inhibits DHT in the body for 72 hours so a daily dose isn't necessary. Question 2, I'm not sure?? If a post-chemo person is bald and the hair doesn't come back I don't believe they'll have any options as HT's can only be done with your own hair.....you can't get it from someone else, even a relative, it won't work.
14. Thanks E- Will do......yep, Sir Bobman has some temples now doesn't he! Hope we get some replies to some that have had templework, anyone??
15. I really enjoyed reading this thread. At first I thought "oh, no....this could turn into the OK Corral", but there been some great responses and interesting reasoning as to placement of particular Docs! In the case of HT's.............size matters. Some people get HT's being NW3, some are NW6-7. Obviously, the strategy with each is unique in that the potential for restoration varies from one candidate to the next depending on age, loss, quality of donor...etc. Here are my picks:

Dr. Wong - of course I may be partial , but I picked Dr. Wong for my 2nd HT (and upcoming 3rd) initially for his crownwork but also his artistry. I'm sticking with him for my hairline work as well as I believe he's at the top.
Dr. Hasson - again, I like Dr. Hasson's artistry, and, in the case of anyone with the donor and need for a large session, I think he's awesome.
Dr. Ron Shaprio - I really, really like his quality of work from start to finish, hairlines especially hairline artistry.
Dr. Rahal - I like the quality of his work and the results I've seen.
Dr. Feller - Also continue to be a fan of his work. I also continue to like the work I see from Dr. Alexander, Dr. Paul Shapiro and Dr. Cooley so for me it's really tough to leave each out of my top 5 as I would sit in the chair with any of them. That's why ranking is so tough!! I really appreciate any Doctor who's clinic, or prior HT patients, are willing to post a variety of their work on the forum.
16. Okay - I've been at this HT game awhile, BUT, due to my hairloss starting at the crown and moving forward, I've never had any dramatic work on my hairline/temples and widow's peaks. Well..........I'm going to flat overhaul them during HT #3 ! My Q - I wore a hat that easily fit over my head not touching any grafts for my first two surgeries. However, for the 3rd, since I'm goint to have some temple work, I'm wondering if a hat will rub the temple areas post-op which I would think is a huge no-no. Okay guys that have had the temple work..........how did you cover the temples for the first week or two post-op????? Muchas Gracias!

18. Can't wait to see your pics. Honestly with the mop you already had I can't imagine 4700 grafts fitting in there.............can't wait to see the pics ;-)
19. The trick on scabs is to gently work on them as soon as possible. Yes, by day 16 they really should be gone and your grafts are seated so, check with your Doc, but you can probably work them much more aggressively now..........just don't use your fingernails !
20. Spex- Yep, got your message and I'm going to buy up Aloe like it's going out of style :-) - thx for the tips! LaGrange.......seriously, PM me if you're going to be there the 24th or 25th. My surgery is the 24th, I'll be there the night before and a little the following day. Let's at least get intro'd if you're there. PM me and we can exchange cell #'s or something. Gorpy - Thanks my friend! You're a great asset to this community and have been a big help to me and many others over the years. BTW....how are things looking for you? Last I remember seeing that extra fill in for you really put you over the top! M&M - I remember you, dude..........if I had your hair I definitely wouldn't be going back in the chair! Updated myself on your blog, are you going back for more density? Rambler - Many thanks.............yes, if I can get over 3000 I'll be more than satisfied. I'm psyched......and I'm doing scalp exercises like a madman ;-). YS - I hope so! In any case, at my age and being fairly satisified with what I already have..........I hope I can say I'm done after this (but I'll never say never!!!! :-))
21. If you're average, you'll shed around 80% or a little more of the grafts, somewhere between 10 days to 3 weeks, give or take......everyone's different. Yep...new growth usually comes in thin and wispy. 3 weeks is awful early for new growth, have you been taking Fin and could it be hairs from that? I've heard of new growth by 6 weeks to 2 months, but that's usually just the beginning. yes, after they begin growing, they will continue to thicken up to and past the 1 year mark. Hope this helps -
22. I have to agree with the two above posts...........don't think there's anything else being gained by this thread being alive. Let'd move on! Bill, what do you think? Want to put a deadbolt on this one?
23. Glad you were in the hands of the Master! Seriously, artistry is a huge part of HT's and I believe Dr. Wong to be at the top with a select few. Yours is a story that started out sad, but, in the hands of a competent surgeon turned out to be truly amazing. I leafed through your Hair Loss Weblog while posting this.............seriously, really looks great, my friend!
24. Nerves are just a part of it, my friend. I've got'em too after having decided to go forward with HT #3. You'd think by now there'd be no anxiety left but not true. Not nervous at all about the work as I know it will be a quality job............just many things to juggle........travel, recovery, back to work.......etc. All part of the process and normal. Best of luck to you -
25. Anything's possible ! I'm not a paid consultant - you need to get that guarantee from the person prescribing the Fin for you............they're getting paid for their advice!
