  1. Very well written thank you. I hope you are a regular here and giving this kind of advice to people seeking counsel. I'm not sure what I'm looking for to be honest other than to just protect myself from a psychological breakdown. I have taken advantage of the gifts of Propecia and lived my life that reflects it, but rather just to have some peace of mind. I feel it's rooted somewhere deep because it's not external like looking for a partner or being accepted, it's something internal. You make a good point on the HT. When it started out, I was told to wait till 25, I thought ok I'll do it then. Then when I was 25 I though, I'll wait till 30 since my hair isn't so bad and the older you are it's better. Now, I think about it and it doesn't make sense anymore. When I'm in my 40s it may not matter to have perfect hair but I'd have to maintain it because once you get the HT there's no turning back and ignoring it will make you look weird. This will probably be the same when I'm in my mid-30s in relation to Propecia but for now, it's just as important as it was when I started years ago. I don't know how to get past that, only time can do that. I will try a lower dosage and see how it goes for awhile, if it doesn't change, I'm sure the fear will take precedence and will make me stop. Thank you again for taking your time to write this. The site may have saved my life when I started and didn't know what to do about my hairloss. It helped me tackle it fairly early and I'm truly grateful. Keep helping others out there, your knowledge and information means more than you know.
  2. In my country we don't need a prescription so I never went to a doctor for it. My GP isn't very good either misdiagnosed me with a few things, I was living with vertigo from just slight movements for two months because she said I'd have to live with it. I've already started cutting down, and will try it out and see. Thank you for the information, it really helps a lot, you have no idea. I had a bad day yesterday and I didn't want to come here and deal with this that's why I'm late with the reply.
  3. I was thinking of cutting down the Propecia dosage and starting Minoxidil. I tried Minoxidil years ago but I just figured it was too difficult to use and I was happy with the results of Propecia. I was wondering does Minoxidil have any affect on sexual problems like Finasteride?
  4. I'm truly sorry this is very long. I don't have anyone to speak to about my hairloss and maybe everything just spilled out. The important paragraphs are from 3 onwards. I hope I can get some answers here, because I'm very scared of what might happen either way and not sure what to do about it. Hi there, I've been having a problem and I'm not sure where to turn. I hope I can get some advice here. Hairloss has been very hard on me, since I started losing my hair my life has totally changed. Even since I started posting here which was in 08 I think, I wouldn't in my wildest imagination guess that I would be where I am today because of it. That being said, I'm able to handle the psychological aspect of it and have been cleared of depression. I come here because maybe more than a year and a half ago I started taking avodart, I've been on Propecia since 08 and I felt that it has not been as effective anymore. I know that it's still working but I was losing hair very fast. Having not had any side effects from Propecia at all, I decided to try it. I'm a bit foggy on the details, but I think I started to notice some problems or maybe it wasn't really working so I switched to 2.5mg of Proscar. Actually I think all this might have took place over two years ago, I can't remember the exact details sorry. But, when I was on 2.5mg I felt the parts that were shedding, grew back. It was really looking good and I was happy. Proscar is cheaper and everything seems to be in order. However, about a year ago I started to notice some problems with my ejaculation and erections. This year at one point, I wasn't ejaculating at all and wasn't even able to get hard. I quickly, went down to 1.25mg and within a week, I started to ejaculate and all but it wasn't as strong as before. Thinking that cutting Proscar into 4 pieces, still messes up the dosage (you're not going to get 1.25 in 4 pieces), I decided to go back to Propecia. When I went back to 1.25mg of Proscar, it wasn't as severe anymore but I noticed 3 things that I stayed. First, my erections aren't as hard not like those years when I was on Propecia anyway. Semen is less and my orgasms aren't as enjoyable. A month and half since I went back to Propecia and I'm still experiencing these problems. I used to masterbate once every day but lately I've been taking breaks a few days just to test out if my erections and semen just needs a break. The reason I'm here is because when all this started, and I saw the effects of Propecia, I knew I was still losing my hair and I figured that eventually when it's effectiveness runs out, I'll get used to my hair and will be able to resume my life. I realized not long ago, that the psychological damage that I've suffered from hairloss is so severe for someone who is only probably an NW2 or NW3. Honestly, there's tons of ways I could style my hair to hide it and yet I'm sporting a cap most of the time. People just look at me in shock when I'm not wearing a cap and probably wonder why I always wear a cap. That being said, I realize that I'll need Propecia because I'll never be able to overcome hairloss. I'm sort of keeping my head just above the water and if I let go of it, I'll drown. I know it sounds drastic but even I never expected to be so attached to it and I won't go into explaining why either as this thread is already way too long. So I'm here asking, what can I do? What do you think this is related to? I lead a very sedentary lifestyle, should I exercise more? Are these problems I'm having reversible? Should I cut down my dosage to 1mg every two days? I'm very scared and I'm not sure what to do. I'm 29 years old if it matters.
  5. I'm sorry for the late reply, I went on a holiday the day after I posted and I didn't want to be thinking about it while on vacation I'm not sure I understand. If you're asking where I get it from, I get it from my local pharmacy, we don't need a prescription here to get Proscar. I'm not sure how they would have reacted if I said Propecia but as doctors they should know it's the same. The reason I would be responding to Proscar is because it's 2.5 compared to 1mg Propecia. Also, it's a lot cheaper for me to split a 5mg pill than take two Propecia pills. Yes I take 2.5 daily. Is that bad? I don't split it into more because I was already taking Propecia which was 1mg and it stopped being effective or rather less effective. I've been struggling with the effectiveness of Propecia for a long time because back then my pharmacy didn't have Proscar and they also said that Avodart didn't sell here. So I had no choice but to stick to Propecia for a long time after realizing it's not working as well. More than 1 year I think. I finally managed to find avodart and proscar and I'm very very happy with Proscar's results, but this whole sexual thing is very concerning especially since I never had this problem with Propecia. Any advice or anything I should read on please throw it my way.
  6. 5 and a half years on Propecia, 6 months on Proscar, 6 months on Avodart and back to Proscar 2.5mg daily now for about 4 - 6 months. I stopped taking Propecia because I noticed it was starting to be less effective and decided to move on. Months ago, I started noticing that when I ejaculate the quantity of sperm is becoming less compared to a year or more prior. I started doing research and found out that the quantity is suppose to be a teaspoon worth which is more or less what I was releasing. Today, during my climax I noticed nothing was coming out, at the very last "pump" a little bit came out. At the end only two drops came out. Now, I'm very freaked about this. I'm only 27 years old, what's it going to be like 10 years down the road if I continue? For 5 years I enjoyed being on Propecia, there was a little libido decrease but it was barely noticeable. Then when I switched to Proscar, there was more libido decrease sometimes it takes effort even to get hard but I'm happy with Proscar's results so far in terms of hair loss. What made it worse was recently I had to go emergency for a medical thing during which time the doctor asked me if I was on any medication. When I said Proscar for the hair, she got shocked, like I had told her I was drinking my own urine or something. Soon after I went for therapy for difficulties sleeping and he also got shocked at this notion saying that such things can cause cancer and have harmful side effects. I'm really worried now, and not sure what other options I have or how to be sure if it's Proscar that's causing it. My hair has reached the point where I'd have to shave it off if I experience anymore severe lost and the fact that Proscar was helping was such a relief. Sigh...
  7. 1. I meant hair doctors as in HT surgeons and such, someone who specializes in the field. I don't feel very comfortable bringing this to my GP and don't know if she'd have much knowledge regarding this. Avodart is sold in the local pharmacy without the need for a prescription. If it's dangerous wouldn't that be a requirement? I think it would better for me to go back to Proscar, I'm only 27 so going the dut road may not be a good idea anyways, plus Proscar is a lot cheaper. I remember reading sometime back that only 1mg gets absorbed into the body so if I'm taking 2.5mg, what happens to the rest? 2. I've been monitoring it by keeping an eye on my temples. It's receding very slowly but I feel like the thicker parts are started to thin rather than the temples going higher. That's why I was looking for a better way to monitor. My hair doesn't fall that much on the pillow or during shower but mostly when I'm drying my hair after a wash, when I brush my hand through my hair a few will come out, when I untie my hair quite a few come out with the hair band and the rest of the time it's hard to notice maybe when I'm walking or just moving my hair out of my face, etc. 3. I will probably do a full medical check up before the end of the year so I will ask all the questions there. I think Proscar is the best option now.
  8. I'm at a lost right now and really concern. Hopefully someone can help me understand a little more. I'll start with a little time frame: - First noticed hairloss in mid-2005 - First started Propecia mid-2008 - Switched to Proscar 2.5mg in mid-2013 - Switched to Avodart in early 2014 For almost 5 years I was happy with Propecia. Although my hair was already a mess, I suffered minimal loss in those years. During the 4th year I started to feel like it was losing it's effectiveness but I thought I should give it another 6 months - 1 year to be sure. I then switched to Proscar thinking Propecia had run it's course. In that 6 months of using Proscar I couldn't really be sure I was losing my hair but it didn't feel like it was improving. Before going to Proscar, I was initially interested in going for Avodart since I had suffered no side effects from Propecia. However, my main pharmacy said they didn't have it here and that it would be hard to get in the country, they'd have to order, etc. Eventually, I found another pharmacy selling it and decided to switch. Using Avodart for 6 months I've found that I might be still losing hair which is expected but not in 6 months. Now, granted it's very subjective, the only way I measure this is visually and if it looks like my hairline is going higher slightly. 6 months and it looks like there's a change, which to me is too soon. This leads me to problem no. 2. While looking through some forums, I noticed someone saying side effects include low semen ejaculation and nut ache. This scared me! About 1 1/2 months ago, my nut started have an ache, very mild but it would come now and again. I figured while jogging I had pulled a muscle or something but it went on for a month or so. It's gone a way but since it has gone, I've noticed the quantity of my semen is a little less. I just figured I was dehydrated and there being no medical symptoms like pain I thought it would go away eventually. That leaves me with a few questions: 1. Is it possible for Avodart to be less effective than Proscar 2.5mg? Should I switch back? 2. How do you measure hair loss (we don't have hair doctors where I'm from) 3. Could the low semen rate and nut ache be Avodart related? And what would be the consequence of continuing? I apologize if the post is a little long, I wanted all the relevant information included.
  9. I am using a shampoo like Nizoral and Proscar but minoxidil + proscar might be too expensive for me, and I know minoxidil is to grow new hair and if you stop it, it will fall back out. I did use it in the beginning for about 4 months but it was too much of a hassle also. I know if you stop medication hairloss will continue, I'll never be off something like Fin, and I can see myself taking it for many years. I noticed someone had Minoxidil oral pill on their sig, maybe I could try that? I'll have to check with the pharmacy if they have that, but I have a feeling Ive already done that awhile back with no luck. Yeah I'm really worried about buying online, especially since I've read about people giving you fake pills and such. I noticed on another thread about a site called 4rx where you can get Dut online, it'll cost about 103 bucks in my countries currency which isn't that bad. Is that a reliable place to get it from? India will be a hard, my best bet is online unfortunately. Will definitely do some proper research before purchasing but I'd like to know if I can even get them.
  10. Also, what are some other options I might be able to look at if Dut proves too difficult to attain. I'm not interested in Minoxidil because I can't maintain it for the rest of my life, so it doesn't seem to be worth it also I can't afford to be on that plus Fin and Nizoral. Any other options I'm all ears.
  11. Thank you for replying but that's the thing though, the pharmacy I go to doesn't have it, he mentioned that it was not available in my country, so I'm afraid getting a prescription might prove pointless. Is there anywhere I can get it online perhaps? It's weird, I can't find anything about it online or even in neighboring countries. I wonder what people do once Fin starts being less effective. Interesting study, I don't think I can afford to be on Fin and Dut but I like the results Dut is showing although 24 weeks isn't really optimum results.
  12. Hi, I was using Propecia and it started being less effective around the 5 year mark, so I started Saw Palmetto and Proscar 2.5, just to see if it starts to take effect. I know the body can only retain 1mg but I read about splitting into 4 and how you would not get the proper dosage, I figured if I split it into half I'd have a better chance. Anyways, I've been on that for 4 months now and I've noticed I'm still losing ground, it's not fast but in 4 months I would consider it fast, especially comparing the results I had with Propecia for 5 years. I've got two questions, I'm 27 at the moment and I'm wondering if I should make the switch to Dutasteride. The problem I'm having though, is that I can't seem to find anything about it in online in my country or in the pharmacy. I'm from Malaysia and I'm wondering where can I get some Avodart? or are there any cheaper generic brands and where can I purchase them. I'm not too happy about moving to duta since that's almost like the last resort and I was hoping to save that for my mid-30s. So I'd like to know if it's a good idea. I hope someone can help me here, cause I really don't know where else to turn to. I apologize for rambling a little long.
  13. Thanks for the link. I'll read it but I can't afford to be on dut let alone both. I'm sorry too but like Spanker and KO said, it's still working but just not as well as it did. I don't think it stops working but I think it does stop working as well. The first two years I couldn't believe how my hair didn't change, it was a bittersweet moment because I kept thinking if I had only started earlier I would have saved so much more hair. I don't have any baseline photos, I find it too traumatizing to take photos of my hair, even though I'd be proud to have that hair now, at that time, well you know what I mean. I'll try to look up some old photos. I can post pics of what my hair looks like now but I don't know how much good it would do without any reference. Let me know, I'll try to get some up tonight. I'd never dream of going off fin even if it's slowed down a little, I've already made the mistake of not being on it once.
  14. Checked the pharmacy, they only have 5mg of Proscar. Avodart and other fin dosage not available in my country. Should I start 2.5mg Proscar?
  15. Just checked the price for Avodart, is it really 140 USD for 30 pills? That's insane. Are there any generic brands?
