i just got back from washington DC where i had a one on one consultation with dr bisanga. i thought i would share my experience so far with dr bisanga.
the good news is that i was deemed to have very good density, 80-90 grafts/sq.cm and no minaturization and i was advised that i could easily and safely get 5000 fue grafts, maybe more.
dr bisanga was a very nice, calm, easy going person whom made me feel very comfortable from the minute i met him. he did not rush me, answered all my questionsand was wiling to take as much time as needed to go through any topics/concerns/questions i had.
what i liked is that dr bisanga, performs all the punches and the recipient site hmself. the technicians will only remove the grafts once punched and place them in recipient sites created by dr bisanga.
he usually does maximum 1500fue grafts/day, or 2500-3000 fue grafts over 2 days. the belief is to take their time and do a proper job without having the patient endure a 15 hr procedure. he prefers to split larger sessions over 2 days in order to avoid patient and dr fatigue.
he did mention that he could consider doing up to 2000 grafts in one day.
dr bisanga has been doing fue since 2001 and he advised me that fue ow makes up 80% of his business.
he also advised that when there is a procedure for 1500 grafts in a day or less he will likely have another patient the same day, but never more than 2. for 2000 grafts procedures, he would have one 1 patient that day.
dr bisanga uses he own created manual punch tool ranging from .75-85MM and varies througout the procedure depending on size of graft being extracted.
he advised that he prefers manual punch as he feels he has more control and can feel if a graft is about to be transected therefore he can change the angle to avoid transection. what was interesting is that he advised he uses a sharp punch as opposed to a blunt punch.
what i really liked is that he is very conservative in his approach and will only undertake a patient once he properly assesses them and is confident he can deliver a successful result.
i say this first hand as i had travelling to DC with a friend who also had a consultation. although my friends loss was not as extensive as mine, dr bisanga advised my friend that he would not be a good candidate for fue and that he could not be confident to produce a good result as my friend was assessed to have minaturization in donor area. this shows how honest dr bisanga is.
overall i was very impressed with dr bisanga and i can see why so many patients opt for him to perform fue.
although dr bisanga did not feel there would be enhanced risks froma 2 day back to back procedure this is the only thing that worries me.
if anyone can tell me about their 2 day fue procedure i would greatly appreciate it
