Any Martin Maag patients?

Randomly found out about this doctor named Martin Maag. He was an emergency doctor for decades, got convicted of road rage charges, spent time in jail, and lost his ability to bill Medicare due to his convictions (which apparently is essentially for an ER doc)

https://old.reddit.com/r/HairTransplants/comments/y5ic8m/open_forum_discussion_for_martin_maag_of_911hair/

With his career in emergency medicine down the toilet, what better time was there to enter the wonderful world of hair restoration 🤣

This guy seems like quite a colorful character.

Curious if anyone on this forum has had personal interactions with him, any patient reviews, etc?

I have never heard of this doctor. Are those charges recent? Perhaps he’s turned a new leaf.

I think I might have been reading the same recent info as you, thread and subsequent discussion on Reddit?

yea I found about him from Reddit. What's interesting is he is not afraid at all to aggressively go after criticism on those posts.

That post definitely struck a nerve with him. I’m confused that he says he’s not a surgeon, but he performs hair transplants.

Whilst i do believe people can change, i would be hesitant to select people without a proven track record generally as a Hair Transplant specialist. You have a finite donor and you don't want to be playing Russian Roulette with it

Even if unlimited hair clone grafts or whatever became a reality, i would only want to go to somebody experienced and trust my hairline to them because the above is going to cause an explosion in hair mills even more than now.

Personally i have talked about even making a commitment to restock my donor area in the future if it becomes a reality so that i can have great density all around.

I had my hair transplant through honest hair restoration (the place Dr. Maag runs) on October 7th.

I researched him the best I could before I set up the consultation. I saw the article about the traffic charge, but it didn’t bother me since it had nothing to do with hair restoration and because I’ve been in his shoes, in a way. In regards to his hair transplant reviews, I couldn’t find anything negative, just a bunch of 5 star reviews and one YouTube video style review.

During the consultation he was a very down to earth and easy to talk to guy. At that point I already knew 100% that I was getting a hair transplant, but the original plan was to go to Turkey and spend about a month vacationing there while I recovered. I already had my passport ready and a handful of clinics lined up as potentials. When I saw HHR’s advertisement for $6k unlimited grafts, I figured it was worth at least giving a consultation a try. I have had a consultation set up in the past with another American clinic, Care4Hair in Miami, because they had a deal for $2k, but they seemed clueless and I found a bunch of bad reviews and saw botched jobs. By the end of the consultation with HHR I felt confident that the results would be at least as good as what I was seeing In Turkey, the price was about the same when you consider flight and hotel, so I went ahead and booked it.

The procedure went exactly as I expected it would. After the initial set up injections, I didn’t feel much and just kept falling asleep. My donor area recovered nicely for only being on day 52, they used a machine that let them do by hand graft extraction instead of neo graft on me, probably because I required a higher graft count and neo graft would have likely left it looking thinner on the back; by hand they spread the donor area out so there wound be less concentrated thinning. The recipient area has been acting as expected, grew for about 3 weeks and then she’d. I’m expecting to start seeing growth around February or March.

if anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

Can we see some pics, pre and post op, who did the different steps of you’re transplant? What was the final graft count? Be interested to know those kind of details. Thanks 🙏

@SMPFUEI thought I recognised this, are you on Reddit ?

Yea, I was going to post my stuff on r/hairtransplants but the mod over there had an absolute melt down over Dr. Maag and then started to accuse me of being him and kept deleting my posts.

Do you mind creating a separate thread detailing your journey with month to month progress pictures.

When the day started I was with Dr. Maag and Joel. Joel is his main tech who everyone requests because he is OCD and does great work from what I’ve seen. Dr. Maag discussed my hair transplant with me and Joel and they agreed on the hairline together and then talked about the plan. Then Dr. Maag did all the set up stuff and injected whatever they use to numb the area and prepare it for extraction. Then Joel did the extractions manually, but not by hand completely, it was a machine that started with an “A”. I know they offer neo graft, but because I had a high graft count they went with this option. I don’t know the exact graft count since they don’t charge per graft, but during the consultation Dr. Maag was saying around 5k to 5500 grafts if I remember right. I think Joel did the majority of the transplant, including placing the transplanted hairs, but I kept falling asleep during the procedure so I’m not 100% sure on some parts of the transplant. I knew beforehand that Joel would be doing a large chunk of the transplant and I was fine with that since I kept seeing reviews mentioning him and during the consultation the stuff Joel did all looked great.

I’ll post pictures in a minute. I doing really have profess pictures since I’m barely past 7 weeks and don’t have much to show yet… I had SMP performed first and the SMP honestly makes my current progress look almost identical to pre op since it covers all my redness except for a bit of my hairline.

I had my transplant with Dr Martin Maag at Honest Hair Restoration and I couldn't been happier. The location was very clean and the staff was very friendly and professional. During the procedure I had a remote to watch tv and movies.

His character shouldn't be judged on a motor vehicle issue that happened years ago. Would you like it if everybody judged you on every mistake you made in your life. In the age of cancel culture, we should be vigilant and not hate people just because someone tells us to. Reflect on your own life, recognize the mistakes you made in your own life, and emphasize with people who trying to do good work and changing others lives. Before hair restoration, Dr Martin Maag had saved countless lives as a board-certified Family Medicine physician, which more truly speaks of his character. I believe it is because of this that informs his $6000 for unlimited grafts + prp pricing policy.

I consulted with many doctors including Turkey, and I found his one-on-one doctor support un paralleled. He performs the patient consultation, is present during the entire hair restoration process, and is available for answering questions before, during, and after your treatment, In other words, he’s there for his patients from start to finish. They aren't a big corporate hair mill. They are small and exclusive so they can give the full attention to each patient.

Dr Maag set ambitious but realistic expectations for my procedure. It was a comfortable experience, I had less pain in the procedure than getting a tattoo. I really like my hairline, it is soft and natural. Joel and Candy were the technicians, and they both have 17+ years experience. I am not sure how long he can offer $6000 for unlimited grafts + prp pricing policy as I heard that his wait times are getting longer, I am lucky that I had my procedure when I did.

Finally regarding the link to reddit. wallabyupstars does not tell the truth, he lies about the driving record and his attempt to cancel him was not only reckless but also slander. Dr Maag is an experienced hair restoration specialist who was happy to give his very valuable time for free to combat the misinformation on that website, but wallaby uses that forum blow himself. If anyone tries to correct his incorrect statements, he has a temper tantrum. The guy has nothing going for him and is the stereotypically internet moderator who lives in his mom's basement. He is prevents people from getting a great and affordable transplant because he wants to go on a power trip. Wallaby is not looking out for you, he is there to blow his fragile ego. It is reckless and sad.

Can you share a detailed review with pictures? Otherwise, this appears to be very suspicious to the community. Two new users registered to defend a surgeon.

Completely agree. A first time poster coming out to support a person who has done jail time??? 🤔

You are mistaken, perhaps you been burned in the past but Dr Maag is the real deal.

Looks like you just had your hair transplant based on your review. I think it’s fair to say you should wait until your HT starts to grow before making these statements. You can say you had a good experience, but you cannot make any judgments on the work because it’s too soon to tell.

Fair enough, but why are you not telling the same thing to the guy who said called the review a red flag? He can not judge until it grows out, so why is he allowed to call it a red flag?
