Regular Member Dani Posted June 19, 2022 Regular Member Share Posted June 19, 2022 (edited) Hello everyone It's time for me to share my experience to the community that helped me in my search for a hair transplant solution. A little bit about me: 34 year old male who's been balding since 23. My hair loss was very aggressive and I lost a tremendous amount of hair in 5 years during which I did nothing to stop it. I searched for a medical reason for the hair loss but nothing was found and I read about the terrible sides of finasteride (and minoxidil) and that scared me off meds for a while. Finally after 5 years, one day I saw my hair status in clear light and it was shockingly thin but clear that I either start some treatment or lose it all. I then started with finasteride (divided in like 8 pieces to minimise the dose and sides). I've been on fin since then (6 years ago). About a year or less ago I started with minoxidil foam. Since last year I've been searching about hair transplants and reading about clinics, reviews, various techniques and all. I learned that good clinics are expensive and I wanted to reduce the risk of a bad transplant as much as possible. I contacted a few clinics recommended here and went with Dr. Feriduni. The reasons I went with his clinic was because of the good reviews (here and other forums) and the great communication with the clinic which gave me confidence that I will get the appropriate post-operative assistance. My goals: I explained to Dr. Feriduni that I wanted to have good density on the front and top of my head and was less interested on the crown/vertex area. We decided to fill that area as well but with much lower density than in the front. I think around 1200 FU's were transplanted there. 2200 FU's were transplanted in the front. The process: The day before the surgery I went to the clinic at 3PM to discuss the treatment plan with Dr. Feriduni and to get a first examination of my situation (including donor area). This was done, I got the chance to ask questions and the number of grafts were decided upon. A taxi service was arranged by the clinic to pick me up and I was at the clinic at 7:30AM. The surgery started at around 8:30 with the first thing done was to remove the grafts from the donor area. This process took around 3 - 3:30 hours and once it was done we had a quick lunch break. It was the most uncomfortable part of the whole process because you have to lay very still on your belly the whole time. After the lunch break I went back to the surgery room where Dr. Feriduni did all the incisions. This took roughly an hour or slightly more. Afterwards the hair implants started. This is the most comfortable process and you get to watch netflix if you want, which I did for some time. Overall the total operation took roughly 8 - 8:30 hours. Details of number of FUs: Single FU's: 246 Double FU's: 1773 Triple FU's: 1436 Total FU's: 3455 I plan on tracking my progress and updating this thread regularly. Here are the before and after pictures done at the clinic. The after picture were taken the day after the surgery. Regular Member Dani Posted June 19, 2022 Author Regular Member Share Posted June 19, 2022 Hey @Melvin- Moderator, thank you for the kind words! I can't wait (and hope) for the good days to come 🙂 The surgery was on the 15th and tomorrow is the 5th day where I will post some update pics. The donor area seems to be healing nicely. Regular Member Dani Posted June 23, 2022 Author Regular Member Share Posted June 23, 2022 Coming back with a (late) update. Here's day 5. Coincidentally this is also the day where donor area started to hurt. I was informed there would be sensitivity but for 5 days I didn't feel anything and I thought I was in the clear. The pain is not very bad but definitely annoying.
Regular Member Dani Posted June 29, 2022 Author Regular Member Share Posted June 29, 2022 Day 14 All scabs are gone and it's my first day of topical finasteride (1%) with minoxidil (5%)
Regular Member Dani Posted August 4, 2022 Author Regular Member Share Posted August 4, 2022 Update on day 48 Things are not looking that nice, I'm hoping for better days. After about 2 weeks on topical fin + min liposomal gel, I changed to liquid form because it's much easier to apply with longer hair. I also trimmed my hair with 14mm on top and 5mm on the side a few days ago.
Senior Member GoliGoliGoli Posted August 4, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted August 4, 2022 You have a very unique loss pattern. From the looks of it you didn't put any grafts into the hairline? I imagine you understand you'll probably need a 2nd HT at some point despite being on meds? Overall it looks like good work though, I think you'll be quite happy with the result
Regular Member Dani Posted August 5, 2022 Author Regular Member Share Posted August 5, 2022 @GoliGoliGoli I don't think my hair loss pattern is that unique, I've seen plenty of people outside and here on the forum with similar-looking pattern where the hairline has never receded. I was informed by the doctor that I might need a second surgery but it depends how my hair loss progresses. It started really aggressive more than 10 years ago but after meds I manage to stop it and even reverse some and since 6 or more years it's been under control. I'm slightly worried that liquid fin will not be as effective as pill form and I'm keeping a close eye on how many hairs I lose throughout the weeks/months. One maybe strange thing is that not all transplanted hairs have fallen (I was told they would fall), especially in the vertex.

Apologies if you already discussed, but what made you switch from pill to liquid fin?

I just wanted a change after so many years taking the pill and I wanted to see if I feel any difference not taking it. Senior Member Hairy Henderson Posted October 1, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted October 1, 2022 8.5 hours for 3400 FUs? Seems fast, no? I usually see 2 days for 12+ hour sessions for that many grafts.
Regular Member Dani Posted October 2, 2022 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 2, 2022 (edited) @mrmane85 Here are some more pics (donor + top). Most of the photos were done in the bathroom at a bright light. FYI I just cut my hair the other day so back + sides are 12mm and top is 40mm. Today is day 109 so ±3 1/2 months. Regular Member Dani Posted January 2, 2023 Author Regular Member Share Posted January 2, 2023 @mrmane85 Here's a short update at 6 months and a half (200 days). Pics are taken in very good lighting conditions. Back of the head and crown is lagging I suppose and I hope it will improve in the months to come. What do you guys think? @JoDimaggio22 about 4000. Senior Member mrmane85 Posted January 2, 2023 Senior Member Share Posted January 2, 2023 I think it's looking really good. The crown will thicken up in the next 3 months and the front already looks incredible. Are you happy with the progress so far? Do you feel more confident in your appearance?
Senior Member AlexMeister21 Posted January 2, 2023 Senior Member Share Posted January 2, 2023 It definitely looks thicker from where you started. Crown supposedly takes longer to fully grow, so everything looks like its on track. Dr. Laorwong - 1,837 grafts FUE + BHT (Jan. 31, 2023)
Regular Member Dani Posted January 7, 2023 Author Regular Member Share Posted January 7, 2023 I just saw the replies, for some reason I did not get notified via email. @mrmane85 So far I am happy, yes. Definitely more confident and I feel "liberated" of the stress of having to worry about how my hair looks all the time or when it's windy outside 🙂 @AlexMeister21 thanks! 🤞
