Regular Member Grafts Posted November 3, 2020 Regular Member Share Posted November 3, 2020 I am 27 year old American, and I plan on getting a 3000 graft FUE Procedure with a top European surgeon next year. One thing which has really concerned me, which I didn't know previously, is that there is a possible risk of permanent numbness/nerve damage to the donor and/or recipient area after a FUE hair transplant. What is the risk/likelihood of this?
Senior Member ciaus Posted November 3, 2020 Senior Member Share Posted November 3, 2020 I don't have numbers/%s, but its pretty rare. You'd hear plenty about it online and on this forum if it was a noteworthy risk. When there is some post op numbness it usually lasts 1-2 weeks, up to a few months. Never seen a post or heard of someone that actually never recovered from the numbness, but I suppose with unethical chop shops out there its possible. And this is more likely with FUT, where they cut out the strips of skin, rather than FUE which is alot less invasive, just extracting individual follicles. DrTBarghouthi
Numbness can last for weeks in certain areas and it is mainly from the superficial nerves which are bound to get weaker with thousands of extractions and incisions being so close. Everyone recovers but at different rates. It has to do with the regrowth of those nerves and nothing else. No worries at all. Remember that nerves are very slow in their regrowth. About 1 mm a month. Dr. Taleb Barghouthi approved and recommended on the Hair Transplant Network. You can schedule a virtual consultation with me here. JasonKing930
I’ve had FUE 6 months ago and I still feel numbness/tenderness in my recipient area especially under physical stress. My procedure was painful, both during harvesting and Implantation even though it was at one of best clinic in North America. It’s starting to worry me as I haven’t found other posts where it had taken this long to heal. I’m currently trying to get some answers from the surgeon if this is normal. I’ve had good growth until about 5month mark. But I’ve been seeing some shedding again and I hope it’s not my transplanted hair. I’ll keep you all updated on this. Meanwhile can anyone tell me if this is a sign of permanent nerve damage and if it is, will I shed my transplanted hair?

Some places have slowly improved but there's still patches I could stab and not feel. I've had good growth this far so there's no correlation between healing and growing etc. I also had a shit load of injections and had to get topped up during surgery so maybe that also plays a part.
